It has been recognized that HLA Class II antigen is more closely related with certain diseases than Class I antigen. In schizophrenic patients, study on HLA antigne done were almost class I antigen. For more clarifying, author studied on the association with Class II antigens in 33 Korean schizphrenic patients under the base of DSM-iii criteria. HLA antigen typeing tray was supplied from UCLA, Terasaki's laboratory. The results are as follows: 1. The relative risk and etiologic fraction of HLA-DR5, and DQw3 are 2.03/0.19 and 1.37/0.16 respectively. 2. In paranoid type, the relative risk and etiologic fraction of HLA-DR5, and DQw3 are 3.12/0.32 and 1.51/0.20 respectively. Since HLA-DQw3 have been known to be associated with DR5 commonly, results from this study provide confirmatory evidence that there is a positive association between HLA-DR5 and schizophrenia especially in paranoid type.

Normal value of blood is different according to individual, race, age, sex, time of sampling and method, so it is important to establish authentic normal hematological value in Korea. Author studied for obtaining of normal value of white cell cout, red cell count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration and red cell distribution with Coulter Counter Model S-plus in healthy Koreans. The results were as follow : 1. Normal value of white cell count is 6.7±1.8x10?/1 2. Normal vlaue of red cell count is 4.73±0.5x10?/1 3. Normal value of hemoglobin is 14.7±1.7g/dl 4. Normal value of hematocrit is 43.4±5.0% 5. Normal value of mean conpusular volume is 91.9±4.3fl 6. Normal value of mean conpusulcar hemoglobin is 31.1±1.5pg/cell 7. Normal value of mean conpusucular hemoglobin concentration is 33.8±0.6g/dl RBC'S 8. Normal value of red cell distribution width is 9.8±1.5

Progressive muscular dystrophy is a primary degenerative disease of skeletal muscles without evidence of regeneration. This group of diseases is characterized by symmetric distribution of muscular atrophy, intact sensation and reflexes, and a heredofamilial incidence. Etiology is unknown but is generally accepted as hereditary. Boys are attacked much more frequently than girls and it is now recognized as an sex-linked recessive disease. Usually the first symptom to attentation is insecurity in standing or in walking. Diagnosis is confirmed by measurement of serum enzymes, by electromyography and by muscle biopsy. Diagnosis can be established at birth by measurement of CPK level. There is no effective treatment and the children should be kept active and in as ambulatory state as long as possible. This paper presents two cases of progressive muscular dystrophy (Duchenne type) which occurred in brothers and literatures were reviewed briefly.

This 10 months old female was admitted to Ok Cheon St. Mary's Hospital on Aug., 1974, because of growth failure, multiple bony anomalies of the extremities and blue sclera. She was a product of 3rd baby with spontaneous normal delivery at home. During pregnancy her mother had no history of drug ingestion and exposure of radiation and also family problems were not detected. During admission, ophthalmologic findings showed blue sclera, however, hearing disturbances could not be evaluated and laboratory tests were within normal limits except for anemia. X-ray findings revealed multiple healed fractures with bowing of the left forearm, bowing of the femurs, tibias and fibulas, wormian bone and egg-shell appearance of the skull. The diagnosis was established by above clinical findings and multiple bony fractures on x-ray pictures and then this case was presented with a brief review of the literature.
