The effect of acute cadmium-neuropathy on phospholipid metabolism in rat sciatic nerve was investigated. An animal model of cadmium neuropathy was induced by feeding diet containing cadmium to Sprague-Dawley rat for two weeks. Four weeks aged Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups : normal control group, 10ppm-cadmium treated group, 100ppm-cadmium treated group, 1000ppm-cadmium treated group, reference drug, myo-inositol-treated group. All rats were sacrificed at the end of two weeks. The rate of incorporation of 2-[3H]myo-inositol into polyphosphinositide was significantly decreased while the rates of incorporation into phospholipid of titratedserine, ethanolamine and choline were unchanged in sciatic nerve obtained from cadmium-treated rat. Continuously the activities of three enzymes concerned with inositol phospholiped metabolism were measured in homogenates of rat sciatic nerves. Cystidine diglyceride transferase and phophatidylinositol kinase showed significantly decreased activities while phosphatidylinositol-4-phosphate kinase did not show any significant change in activity by cadmium treatment. However these deficits of inositol phospholipid metabolism were ameliorated by myo-inositol administration and these effectiveness were more potent in lower dose cadmiumtreated rats than higher dose cadmium-treated rats. These results suggest that cadmium intoxicated peripheral nerve with perturbation of the ployphosphoinositide metabolism and alteration of the enzyme activity which concerned with myo-inositol metabolism.

This paper describes a adequate pretreatment method for determining selenium by atomic absorption spectrometry with hydride generation (HG-AAS). The concentration of selenium was determined by HG-AAS, in which selenium was not detected, but selenite was measured. For a total selenium determination, selenate should be reduced to selenite by boiling a few minutes to sample solutions with reducing reagent. After a variable study, its condition was determined which 30m1 sample solution is boiling for 30min with hydrochloric acid (FW: 36.46, 35%) in lOO℃ water bath. As a recovery result in this method to deionized water and drinking water, almost 100% of selenate and selenite were recovered from deionized water, above 97% from drinking water.

To construct artificial enzymes, it is of primary importance to assemble catalytic groups and a substrate in the suitable position by covalent or noncovalent bonds. These facts prompted us to design a noncovalently assembled system which involves a thiazolium ion bearing a thymine moiety and Guanidium-Receptor having long methylen chain. Guanidium-Receptor(6a, 6b, 10) was synthesized by stepwise from cyanuric chloride in dioxane and ethanol. The structural determinations of the compounds were based on MP, NMR.

Su-young Cheon is one of the severely polluted streams by domestic sewage and industrial wastewater. A study was carried out at downstream of Su-young Cheon in order to evaluate the effect of domestic sewage and industrial wastewater on water quality. The range and mean values of water quality in Won-Dong bridge were as follows: DO were 0.6-5.7mg/l and 3.82mg/l. SS were 12-79mg/l and 38.4mg/l. BOD 1.6-5.1mg/l, 3.17mg/l, COD 22.4-71mg/l, 39.6mg/l, NH4-N 0.28-1.49mg/l, 2.33mg/l, T-N 0.95-3.92mg/l, 1.76mg/l. In case of T-P were 0.14-0.77mg/l and 0.21mg/l. The range and mean values of water quality in Minrak bridge were as follows: DO were 3.3-5.6mg/l and 4.26mg/l. SS were 11-96mg/l and 53.7mg/l. BOD 0.8-4.7mg/l 2.75mg/l, COD 20-41mg/l, 29.6mg/l, NH4-N 0.02-1.98mg/l, 0.58mg/l, T-N 0.64-2.6mg/l, 1.76mg/l. In case of T-P were 0.12-0.88mg/l and 0.37mg/l.
Aloe vera의 연 유도성 신경계 독성 저감 기전에 관한 연구

Effects of water extract of aloe vera on lead-induced neurotoxicity were investigated in sciatic nerve isolated from rat. The mechanism on toxicity reduction by measuring activities of axonal enzymes, metabolism of myo-inositol in nerve, lead concentration in several organs and so on were further examimed. In the lead-treated rats, the transport rate of axonal enzyme, such as acetyl cholinesterase and choline acetyltransferase, was reduced by from 50% to 30% respectively. Reduction in myo-inositol concentration and $Na^+/K^+$ ATPase activity were also observed in sciatic nerve from lead-treated rat. However, the aloe extract administration significantly eliminated the impairment and maintained myo-inositol concentration to about 85% of normal level. Also aloe extract promoted the excretion rate of lead which is accumulated in blood, sciatic nerve and kidney. These results suggest that lead-induced neurotoxicity was significantly reduced by administration of aloe extract and the mechanism might be partly increase in kidney excretion rate of lead and parity normalization of $Na^+/K^+$ ATPase activity which is critical factor in order to keep nerve maintaining normal myo-inositol level.

To construct artificial flavoenzymes, it would be of primary importance to exploit oxidation-active flavin model compound, which are quite useful for turn-over catalyst under aerobic conditions and for exploitation of new oxidation. The derivatives of 7,14-dia1ky1-3, 10-dimethylbenzodipu-teridine(7a-c) having ethyl group, butyl group, and octyl group as alkyl group were synthesized from p-phenylendiamine, which is the starting material. the paracyclophane derivative(ll) was synthesized from p.p'-diaminodiphenylmethane being the starting material. The structural determinations of their derivatives were based on MP, NMR and UV.
