The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of five chemotherapeutic agents (penicillin, streptomycin, tetracycline, oxytetracycline and furazolidone) was measured for 126 strains of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from the udder of dairy cattle. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The MIC of penicillin, streptomycin, tetracycline, oxytetracycline and furazolidone ranged from 0.03 to 32 ug/ml, 0.06 to 128 ug/ml, 0.06 to 128 ug/ml, 1.0 to 512 ug/ml, and 0.06 to 32 ug/ml, respectively. The most frequent MIC of the above drugs were; penicillin 0.5ug/ml, streptomycin 1.0ug/ml, tetracycline 0.5ug/ml, oxytetracycline 4.0ug/ml, and furazolidone 2.0ug/ml. 2. The number of strains resistant to penicillin. streptomycin, tetracycline and oxytetracycline were 89(70.6), 9(7.1%), 10(7.9%), and 26(20.6%), respectively. Twenty-eight (29.2%) strains showed multiple resistance to more than two antibiotics tested.

The mean values of total protein, albumin, globulins and A/G ratio of synovial fluid from the normal tibiotarsal joints of 55 healthy Korean native cattle were investigated. The results obtained were summarized as followings. 1. The mean values of synovial total protein for the entire group were $0.98{\pm}0.05g/dl$, with a range of 0.43 to 1.83g/dl for individual samples, and $1.00{\pm}0.07g/dl$ in slaughtering cattle and $0.92{\pm}0.06g/dl$ in living group, respectively. Compared with serum, synovial fluid contained far less total protein(p<0.01). 2. The mean values for the group were; albumin, $0.42{\pm}0.02g/dl$, globulins, $0.56{\pm}0.04g/dl$, and A/G ratio, $0.99{\pm}0.10$, with a range of 0.17-0.82g/dl, 0.03-1.32g/dl, and 0.15-3.15 for individual sample, respectively. 3. No statistical significant differences in the mean values of total protein, albumin, globulins, and A/G ratio have been observed between the synovial fluids of slaughtering and living animals. 4. Significant correlations existed between the globulin levels of synovial fluid and serum(r=0.3939), but the other values were not established.

During the period January to August 1968, 979 pigs slaughtered at the two local abattoirs in Cheju-do were investigated for Cysticercus cellulosae infection. The results obtained are as follows. 1. A total of 72(7.35%) out of 979 pigs examined were found to be infected with Cysticercus cellulosae. Among the positive pigs, 31(9.2%) were detected at Hallim abattoir and 41(6.4%) at Sogwipo abattoir,respectively. 2. Among the various sites examined, the axial muscles(91.3%) was the most frequent site of infection. The other sites in the order of diminishing frequency were the thigh and gluteal muscles(78.2%), the neck and masticatory muscles(65.2%), the heart and tongue(39.1%), the shoulder muscles(26.0%), the diaphragm(8.7%), and the eye and liver(4.3%). The evidence of infection was not found in the lung of all the positive pigs. 3. The number of cysts contained in the central part of the thigh and gluteal muscles (10cm×10cm×3cm) of 23 infected pigs was examined. The highest number of cysts was 352 and the lowest number was one. The average number of cysts was 70.2. 4. It was concluded, on the basis of the observations on the origin of the positive pigs and the sanitary condition of each of the farms, that human feces is the main source of infection on pigs in Cheju-do.
