        『빨간 구멍』에서의 매체 이미지 수행 방식 분석

        본 논문은 셀룰로이드와 웹캠이라는 이질적인 매체들을 혼합한 동시대 실험 애니메이션영화 『빨간 구멍』(감독: 서영주, 2013)을 분석한다. 『빨간 구멍』은 빠른 속도로 변화하고 있는 현 미디어 상황에서 아날로그와 디지털을 대표하는 각 매체들의 존재론적 특수성을 고찰하고, 이들이 발생시키는 다층적인 이미지 효과들을 탐색하고 있다. 먼저 『빨간 구멍』은 디지털 시대에 소멸되어가는 셀룰로이드에 주목하여 16mm 붉은색 필름 리더에 구멍을 뚫어 매체의 물질적 속성을 강조함과 동시에 영화의 조건과 장치를 드러내었다. 또한 『빨간 구멍』은 10년 전 녹화한 웹캠 영상을 소환하여 원격현전하였던 여성/어머니 이미지를 파편적이고 반복적으로 보여줌으로써 웹캠 비디오가 지니는 가상성과 디지털 기술의 환영성을 폭로하였다. 이러한 맥락에서 본고는 『빨간 구멍』의 매체 수행 방식을 중심으로 매체의 형식과 내용이 어떻게 상호보완적으로 작동하며 인식론적 함의를 파생시키는지를 분석한다. This study is to examine through 『The Red Hole』(directed by Suh, Yong Chu, 2013), a contemporary experimental animated film, which is a mixture of heterogeneous media of celluloid and webcam. In the rapidly changing media environment of today, 『The Red Hole』 explores ontological characteristics of the analogue and digital media, and searches the multi-level effects of images generated from the media. First, 『The Red Hole』 focuses on the celluloid, a slowly disappearing medium of the digital age, and emphasizes the materiality and the apparatus in the cinematic condition by punching holes in 16mm red film leader. Second, 『The Red Hole』 reveals the virtuality and phantasmatization of the digital technology by showing and manipulating the webcam video footage of a telepresented female/mother -a low quality video recorded about 10 years ago. In this context, this study deals with how the form and the content of media complementarily interact each other and examines through the epistemic implication of the media images according to the performative method of 『The Red Hole』.

        An Update on the Prevalence of Allergic Rhinitis in Korea, and Correlation with Hypertension, Obesity and Smoking

        Background and Objectives:We aimed to provide an updated data on the prevalence of allergic rhinitis (AR) in the Korean population and to evaluate the correlation between AR and hypertension, obesity, and smoking. Materials and Methods:Analysis of data from 31,822 people in Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey during a 5-year period (from 2010 to 2014). The diagnosis of AR was done by questionnaire. Results:The overall prevalence of AR was 15.2% and 16.4% in Korean males and females, respectively. The prevalence tended to decrease with age. Subjects with AR were younger than those without (p<0.001) in both males and females. Living in urban area, history of atopic dermatitis, and asthma were all significantly correlated with higher prevalence (p<0.01). Risk for AR conferred to maternal hypertension history was 1.31 (95% CI=1.06-1.62 ; p<0.05) in the male population. However, systolic and diastolic blood pressures (DBP), medication history, and paternal hypertension history did not differ between the AR and normal groups (p>0.05). The odds ratio of obesity (BMI ≥25, compared to normal) for AR was 0.82 (95% CI=0.68-0.98 ; p<0.05) in the male population. Finally, the adjusted odds ratio of ex-smoker (compared to non-smoker) for AR was 1.41 (95% CI=1.05-1.89 ; p<0.05) in males. However, current smoking and pack-year did not differ between AR and normal groups (p>0.05). Conclusions:There was no significant correlation between hypertension and AR. In Korean adult males, obesity was associated with a low prevalence of allergic rhinitis. Although there was no significant correlation between current smoking and AR, there was a notable correlation between exsmoking and AR in male adults.

        Self-Reflections of Pre-service English Teachers on Microteaching Experiences

        This study attempts to explore Korean pre-service teachers’ perceptions of English teaching practices and the challenges of being non-native English-speakers in their microteaching experiences. Twenty-two pre-service EFL teachers at a university in South Korea participated in a microteaching process in which they created lesson plans, conducted and video-recorded their lessons, watched their microteaching performances, and wrote reflective journal reports on their experiences, which provided data for investigating their perceptions of their lesson planning and microteaching experiences. The thematic analysis of the data was conducted, and three main themes emerged: 1) struggles in creating a lesson plan based on the communicative approach, 2) challenges of being a nonnative speaker aspiring to be a qualified English teacher, and 3) need for strategies to deal with unexpected situations in the classroom due to a lack of pedagogical experience. The results suggest that pre-service teachers should be given enough teaching opportunities to become accustomed to classroom situations. The findings of this study imply the significant role of practicum programs and teaching opportunities in helping pre-service teachers bridge the gaps between their beliefs and classroom performances.

        The Use of Short Fiction in a Writing Class: Pedagogical Suggestions for Secondary Level Teachers in EFL Settings

        Literature has been repeatedly recognized as an effective source of authentic materials in EFL classrooms. Literature exposes learners to coherent and expert writing which can enable them to write better and facilitates students’ creative writing skills. The purpose of this study was to investigate the teaching procedures of using short fiction in a Korean high school EFL course in which English writing and reading skills are integrated and to provide pedagogical suggestions for using authentic literature in EFL classrooms. First, this paper introduces a theoretical discussion of the advantages of using short fiction in an English writing instruction, and discusses reasons for selecting the Korean short novel Dongbackkot and the English short story “Araby” as resources for writing. After that pedagogical steps with practical classroom activities are described. We hope that the pedagogical suggestions provided here may inspire English teachers to design their teaching materials using appropriate literary texts to improve their students’ English essay writing and balanced communication skills.

        성인 대상 한국어판 단축형 건강정보이해능력 측정도구의 타당도와 신뢰도 검증

        Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Korean version of Short-form Health Literacy Scale (HLS-SF-K12) for Adults. Methods: The English HLS-SF12 was translated into Korean with forward and backward translation. Survey data were collected from 204 adults who visited two hospitals in Korea. Content validity, construct validity, and known-groups validity were evaluated. Cronbach's ⍺ for internal consistency and test-retest were used to assess reliability. SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0 software were used for data analysis. Results: The HLS-SF-K12 was composed of 12 items, and three subscales (health care, disease prevention, and health promotion). The instrument explained reliable internal consistency with Cronbach’s ⍺ for the total scale of .89, and .74~.81 for subscales. The model of three subscales for the HLS-SF-K12 was validated by confirmatory factor analysis (Normed x2=2.14 (p<.001), GFI=.92, RMR=.04, RMSEA=.08, CFI=.94, TLI=.92, IFI=.94). The hypothesis testing which analyzed the differences in health literacy by age and education level was satisfied. Conclusion: The HLS-SF-K12 is a valid and reliable instrument for measuring health information comprehension for adults in Korea.
