<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Among the various renewable sources of energy, solar energy conversion systems have been regarded as a promising way to satisfy the growing energy demand. For superior solar energy conversion performance, it is important to utilize efficient photosensitizers that have excellent light-harvesting capability. In this regard, quantum dots (QDs) are promising photosensitizer candidates owing to their high absorption coefficient, band gap tunability, and potential multiple exciton generation. Here, we report an effective and straightforward approach to improve the loadings of nanocomposite PbS/CdS QDs in a mesoporous electrode, for highly efficient solar energy conversion. By controlling the surface charge of TiO<SUB>2</SUB> during the successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction process, both the PbS and CdS QD loadings are distinctly increased, leading to a highly enhanced light-harvesting capability of the photoelectrodes. This enhancement is effectively applied not only for solar-to-electrical but also for solar-to-chemical energy conversion, resulting in a ∼33% increased conversion efficiency of the QD solar cells and an unprecedented photocurrent of 22.1 mA/cm<SUP>2</SUP> (at 0.6 V vs<I>.</I> RHE) for hydrogen production from photoelectrochemical water splitting. Fasting and Non-Fasting Triglycerides in Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke

Background: Clinical implications of elevated fasting triglycerides (FTGs) and non-fasting triglycerides (NFTGs) in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) remain unknown. We aimed to elucidate the correlation and clinical significance of FTG and NFTG levels in AIS patients. Methods: Using a multicenter prospective stroke registry, we identified AIS patients hospitalized within 24 hours of onset with available NFTG results. The primary outcome was a composite of stroke recurrence, myocardial infarction, and all-cause mortality up to one year. Results: This study analyzed 2,176 patients. The prevalence of fasting and non-fasting hypertriglyceridemia was 11.5% and 24.6%, respectively. Multivariate analysis revealed that younger age, diabetes, higher body mass index and initial systolic blood pressure were independently associated with both fasting and non-fasting hypertriglyceridemia (all P < 0.05). Patients with higher quartiles of NFTG were more likely to be male, younger, eversmokers, diabetic, and have family histories of premature coronary heart disease and stroke (all P < 0.05). Similar tendencies were observed for FTG. The composite outcome was not associated with FTG or NFTG quartiles. Conclusion: The fasting and non-fasting hypertriglyceridemia were prevalent in AIS patients and showed similar clinical characteristics and outcomes. High FTG and NFTG levels were not associated with occurrence of subsequent clinical events up to one year.
Fluorine Functionalized Graphene Nano Platelets for Highly Stable Inverted Perovskite Solar Cells

<P>Edged-selectively fluorine (F) functionalized graphene nanoplatelets (EFGnPs-F) with a p-i-n structure of perovskite solar cells achieved 82% stability relative to initial performance over 30 days of air exposure without encapsulation. The enhanced stability stems from F substitution on EFGnPs; fluorocarbons such as polytetrafluoroethylene are well-known for their superhydrophobic properties and being impervious to chemical degradation. These hydrophobic moieties tightly protect perovskite layers from air degradation. To directly compare the effect of similar hydrophilic graphene layers, edge-selectively hydrogen functionalized graphene nanoplatelet (EFGnPs-H) treated devices were tested under the same conditions. Like the pristine MAPbI(3) perovskite devices, EFGnPs-H treated devices were completely degraded after 10 days. The hydrophobic properties of EFGnPs-F were characterized by contact angle measurement. The test results showed great water repellency compared to pristine perovskite films or EFGnPs-H coated films. This resulted in highly air-stable p-i-n perovskite solar cells.</P>
The Effect of Reactive Aromatic Hyperbranched Polyester on the Properties of Unsaturated polyester

The aim of this study was to improve the toughness of UPE resin by using an aromatic hyperbranched polyester. The aromatic hyperbranched polyester(HBP) was synthesized and the end-group of the polymer was modified to methacrylate-terminated hyperbranched polyester.(MA-HBP) We characterized HBP and the resulting MA-HBP using ¹H-NMR and DSC. MA-HBP, up to 5 phr, was blended with UPE. The glass transition temperature was not affected by the addtion of MA-HBP, but the thermal stabilities of UPE blended with MA-HBP increased. It was found that the fracture toughness of UPE blended with MA-HBP increased by about 25%, as MA-HBP was added up to 3 phr. It slightly decreased with the further addition of MA-HBP to 5 phr.
사회.경제적 인자를 고려한 우리나라의 폭염 취약성 평가

최근 기후변화로 인해 폭염이 발생하여 인명피해를 비롯해 사회⋅경제적 피해가 증가하고 있다. 이에 우리나라에서는 폭염과 관련된 다양한 연구들이 진행되었다. 폭염 취약성과 관련된 선행 연구는 대부분 IPCC의 취약성 개념 틀과 동일 가중치, AHP 기법 등을 활용하였는데, 취약성 평가에 널리 활용되는 방법이지만 지표 구성 및 가중치 산정 과정에 있어 객관성을 확보하기 어렵다는 한계가 있었다. 본 연구에서는 통계적으로 객관성을 확보할 수 있는 주성분 분석과 엔트로피 가중치 산정 방법을 통해 우리나라의 시⋅군⋅구별 폭염 취약성 지수를 산정하였고, 분석 자료로 사회⋅경제적 인자를 활용하였다. 취약성 산정 결과 전라남도, 전라북도, 경상남도, 경상북도 등의 비도시 지역에서 취약성 지수가 높게 산정되었고, 상대적으로 노후화가 많이 진행된 도시 지역에서도 높은 취약성 값을 보였다. 또한, 산정된 취약성 지수는 최근 폭염으로 인한 인명피해와도 유사한 경향을 가지는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 따라서 지자체별 여건에 맞는 폭염 대응 정책을 수립하는데 있어 본 연구에서 개발한 폭염 취약성 지수가 활용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. The rising heatwave occurrences in recent times due to climate change have resulted in increased mortalities and socio-economic damage. Consequently, several studies have been conducted to examine heatwave vulnerability in Korea. However, most of these studies used the IPCC vulnerability framework and weighting techniques, such as the equal weight and AHP methods, which lacked objectivity in the process of calculating vulnerability. This study employed socio-economic data to measure the heatwave vulnerability index for individual local governments in Korea using the principal component analysis and entropy weighting methods. These techniques ensure that the aggregation of proxies and the weighting process remain objective, unlike previous studies. According to the obtained results, rural areas such as Jeollanam-do, Jeollabuk-do, Gyeongsangnam-do, and Gyeongsangbuk-do, and relatively decrepit urban areas demonstrated high vulnerability scores. In addition, a positive correlation was found between the calculated vulnerability index and mortalities from the recent heatwaves. The heatwave vulnerability index developed in this study can therefore be used to form effective heatwave response policies suited to the conditions of each local government.
혈역학적으로 안정된 복부 전벽 자상 환자의 개복 수술 결정에서 Single-contrast CT의 역할

Purpose: To assess the accuracy and role of single-contrast computed tomography (CT) in the management of anterior abdominal stab wound (AASW). Methods: During 8-years period, single-contrast CT was performed in 21 hemodynamically stable AASW patients (age range, 22-64 years; median age, 45 years), including 19 men and 2 women. CT scans were evaluated by one trauma surgeon and one senior resident to determine the depth of injury(peritoneal violation or not), and abnormal findings of intraperitoneal cavity associated with stab injury. We retrospectively reviewed medical records regarding operative findings. Results: Nine patients underwent abdominal surgery and 12 patients nonoperative management. In the abdominal surgery group, abnormal CT findings included peritoneal violation in 14 patients and abnormal intraperitoneal cavity findings in 5 patients. There was no statistical significant difference regarding abnormal CT findings between abdominal surgery group and nonoperative management group. Among the nine abdominal surgery patients, therapeutic laparotomy was performed on 4 patients. The positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) of peritoneal violation to predictive therapeutic laparotomy were 28.6% and 100%, respectively. In addition, the PPV and NPV of abnormal intraperitoneal cavity CT findings to predict therapeutic laparotomy were 40.0% and 87.5%, respectively. There was no statistical significant difference regarding the abnormal CT findings between therapeutic laparotomy group and non therapeutic laparotomy group. Conclusion: CT is a good adjunctive method to evaluate hemodynamicaly stable AASW patients. If peritoneal violation is not seen on CT scan, conservative treatment on local wound may be safely performed without additional abdominal surgery. However, further study is warranted to evaluate the exact role of CT in the diagnostic workup of AASW patients. [ J Trauma Inj 2014; 27: 145-50 ]

Precast concrete slab track has been already turned out to be more efficient than cast-in place concrete slab track in view of the easiness of construction and the quality control of concrete. Thus, there is a great need to bring in the precast slab track system. In order to develop the realistic precast slab track system that is well conformed to our circumstances, the performance criteria of slab track, and the state-of-the art of precast slab track systems that are used in other countries are briefly discussed here.
