Performance Analysis of Multimedia File System
박진연(Jinyoun Park),원유집(Youjip Won),Jaideep Srivastava(Jaideep Srivastava) 한국정보과학회 2001 한국정보과학회 학술발표논문집 Vol.28 No.1A
Intensive I/O bandwidth demand of the multimedia streaming service puts significant burden on file system. Different from the legacy text based or image data, the semantics of the data in multimedia format can be significantly affected if the data block is not delivered by the predefined deadline. The legacy file system used in Unix or Unix like environment is designed to efficiently handle the files who sizes range from few hundreds of byte to several tens of gigabytes. This fundamental design philosophy results in the file system based on multi level skewed tree structure. Multi level i-node structure has significant drawback when the application performs sequential read operation. In this article. we present the result of the performance study of the file system which is specifically designed for handling multimedia streams. We implemented the file system on Linux Operating System environment and examines the performance behavior of the file system under streaming I/O workload. The result of the study shows that the propsed file system performs much more efficiently than the ext2 file system of Linux does.
Tag-Splitting: Adaptive Collision Arbitration Protocols for RFID Tag Identification
Myung, Jihoon,Lee, Wonjun,Srivastava, Jaideep,Shih, Timothy K. IEEE 2007 IEEE transactions on parallel and distributed syst Vol.18 No.6
<P>Tag identification is an important tool in RFID systems with applications for monitoring and tracking. A RFID reader recognizes tags through communication over a shared wireless channel. When multiple tags transmit their IDs simultaneously, the tag-to-reader signals collide and this collision disturbs a reader's identification process. Therefore, tag collision arbitration for passive tags is a significant issue for fast identification. This paper presents two adaptive tag anticollision protocols: an Adaptive Query Splitting protocol (AQS), which is an improvement on the query tree protocol, and an Adaptive Binary Splitting protocol (ABS), which is based on the binary tree protocol and is a de facto standard for RFID anticollision protocols. To reduce collisions and identify tags efficiently, adaptive tag anticollision protocols use information obtained from the last process of tag identification. Our performance evaluation shows that AQS and ABS outperform other tree-based tag anticollision protocols.</P>
아이콘 이미지 데이타베이스를 위한 시그니쳐에 기반한 공간 - 매치 검색 기법
장재우(Chang Jae Woo),(Jaideep Srivastava) 한국정보처리학회 1997 정보처리학회논문지 Vol.4 No.12
In multimedia information retrieval applications, content-based image retrieval is essential for retrieving relevant multimedia documents. The purpose of our paper is to provide effective representation and efficient retrieval of images when a pixel-level original image is automatically or manually transformed into its iconic image containing meaningful graphic descriptions, called icon objects. For this, we first propose new spatial match representation schemes to describe spatial relationships between icon objects accurately by expressing them as rectangles, rather than as points. In order to accelerate image searching, we also design an efficient retrieval method using a two-dimensional signature file organization. Finally, we show from our experiment that the proposed representation schemes achieve better retreval effectiveness than the 9-DLT(Direction Lower Triangular) scheme.
