Baijiu (白酒), Chinese liquor: History, classification and manufacture

        Xiao-Wei Zheng,Bei-Zhong Han 한국식품연구원 2016 Journal of Ethnic Foods Vol.3 No.1

Baijiu (白酒) is a traditional fermented alcoholic drink originating in China, which is typically obtained by natural fermentation. It has a high reputation and constitutes an important part of Chinese dietary profile. The production of baijiu involves five major steps, materials preparation, daqu (大曲) making, alcoholic fermentation, distillation, and aging. There is a range of baijiu with different flavors and corresponding names. Baijiu can be categorized according to the production techniques (solid state and semi-solid state), types of starter [daqu, xiaoqu (小曲), and fuqu (麸曲)] and product flavor (strong, light, sauce, etc.). different types of baijiu have their home microbiota and flavor because of their distinct production techniques. In this review, we discuss the critical steps and the microorganisms involved in the production of different types of baijiu. Although baijiu contains alcohol, it has been proven that it plays a significant role in the heath and quality of peoples' lives.

Sparse Structured Non-fragile H∞ Controller Design for Linear Systems

        Wei-Wei Che,Guang-Hong Yang,Xiao-Zheng Jin 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2013 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.11 No.4

This paper presents a study on the problem of designing non-fragile H∞ controllers with sparse structures for linear continuous-time systems. A new algorithm is proposed to define and further design sparse structured controllers. Firstly, sparse structures are specified from a given fully parameterized H∞ controller. Then, a three-step design procedure for non-fragile dynamic output feedback H∞ controllers with the sparse structures is provided. The resulting designs guarantee that the closed-loop system is asymptotically stable and the H∞ performance from the disturbance to the regulated output is less than a prescribed level. A numerical example is given to illustrate the design methods.

Adaptive Synchronization of Master-Slave Large-Scale Systems against Bias Actuators and Network Attenuations

        Xiao-Zheng Jin,Guang-Hong Yang,Wei-Wei Che 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2012 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.10 No.6

This paper utilizes the adaptive technique to design a class of active synchronizing master-slave large scale systems against imperfect actuators and networked interconnections with bias faults and signal attenuations, respectively. Without the requirement of knowledge of eventual faulty factors of bias-actuators on systems, and attenuation factors of connected networks, an adaptive mechanism is de-signed to estimate each unknown faulty factor on-line for constructing a class of distributed adaptive controllers. Then based on the adaptive adjustment parameters and Lyapunov stability theory, Lyapunov functions are addressed to prove that the proposed adaptive master-slave large-scale system can be guaranteed to be asymptotic synchronization with the improper actuator and faulty transmitted signals. Finally, a multiple vehicle large-scale system is used to verify the efficiency of the method.

      • Pu-erh Tea Powder Preventive Effects on Cisplatin-Induced Liver Oxidative Damage in Wistar Rats

        Zheng, Xiao-Nan,Wang, Xiao-Wen,Li, Li-Ya,Xu, Zi-Wei,Huang, Hsin-Yi,Zhao, Jin-Sheng,Zhang, Duo,Yin, Xu,Sheng, Jun,Tang, Jin-Tian Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.17

Background: Chemotherapy is one of the major means for control of malignancies, with cisplatin (CDDP) as one of the main agents, widely used for the treatment of various malignant solid tumors. However, prevention of hepatotoxicity from cisplatin is one of the urgent issues in cancer chemotherapy. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of pu-erh tea on hepatotoxicity through body weight and tissue antioxidant parameters like, liver coefficient, serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT), serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX), malondialdehyde(MDA) and glutathione (GSH) levels, and light microscopic evaluation by histological findings. Materials and Methods: The rats were randomly divided into five groups: Control (n=10), cisplatin (3 mg/kg p.i., n=10), cisplatin+pu-erh (0.32 g/kg/day i.g., n=10), cisplatin+pu-erh (0.8 g/kg/day i.g., n=10) and cisplatin+pu-erh (1.6 g/kg/day i.g., n=10). Pu-erh tea powder was administrated for 31 consecutive days. The rats were sacrificed at the end on the second day after a single dose of cisplatin treatment for measuring indices. Results: Pu-erh tea powder exhibited a protective effect by decreasing MDA and GSH and increasing the SOD and GSH-PX levels and GSH-PX/MDA ratio in camparison with the control group. Besides, pu-erh tea was also able to alleviate the pathological damage to some extent. Conclusion: Pu-erh tea powder is protective against cisplatin-induced liver oxidative damages, especially at the medium dosage (0.8 g/kg/d).

Control Method for Grid-Connected/Islanding Switching of Hybrid AC/DC Microgrid

        Qu Zheng-Wei,Chong Zhen-Xiao,Wang Yun-Jing,Shi Zhe,Yao Yun-Xiao 대한전기학회 2023 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.18 No.1

For hybrid AC/DC microgrid (HMG) under master–slave control strategy, DGs usually adopt constant power control (P control) in gird-connected mode and at least one DG adopts constant voltage control (V control) in islanding mode. However, when unplanned islanding happens, the voltage and current of the HMG will experience remarkable fluctuations, which affects the system’s stability. This paper presents a control method to achieve smooth switching from grid-connected to islanding mode by introducing state tracking control between P control and V control. The state tracking control can make the current reference signal of the V control track that of the P control in grid-connected mode. When unplanned islanding happens, the mutation of the current reference signal can be tuned into a smooth transition by the voltage loop’s PI controller, and the transient oscillations can be eliminated to realize smooth switching. The effectiveness of the proposed control method is verified by simulation results using MATLAB/Simulink.

      • Aberrant Expression of HOXA5 and HOXA9 in AML

        Zhao, Peng,Tan, Li,Ruan, Jian,Wei, Xiao-Ping,Zheng, Yi,Zheng, Li-Xia,Jiang, Wei-Qin,Fang, Wei-Jia Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.9

Background: Aberrant expression of HOX gene expression has been observed in cancer. The purpose of this study was to investigate the alteration of HOXA5 and HOXA9 expression and their clinical significance in acute meloid leukemia (AML). Materials and Methods: The expression of HOXA5 and HOXA9 genes of bone marrow samples from 75 newly diagnosed AML patients and 22 healthy controls for comparison were examined by Real-time quantitative PCR (RQ-PCR) assay. Statistical analysis was conducted to evaluate HOXA5 and HOXA9 expression as possible biomarkers for AML. Results: The results showed that the complete remission rate (52.6%) of the patients who highly expressed HOXA5 and HOXA9 was significantly lower than that (88.9%) in patients who lowly express the genes (P=0.015). Spearmann correlation coefficients indicated that the expression levels for HOXA5 and HOXA9 genes were highly interrelated (r=0.657, P<0.001). Meanwhile, we detected significant correlations between HOXA9 expression and age in this limited set of patients (P=0.009). Conclusions: The results suggest a prognostic impact of increased expression of HOXA5 and HOXA9 in AML patients.

        Vasodilation Effect of 2-benzyl-5-hydroxy-6-methoxy-3, 4-dihydroisoquinolin- 1-one

        Wei-Qi,Yong-Xiao Cao,Zhi-Zheng Xiong,Ting-Ting Chen,Xiao-Yan Gao,Hang Yu,San-Qi Zhang 대한약학회 2012 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.35 No.8

A 2-Benzyl-5-hydroxy-6-methoxy-3, 4-dihydroisoquinolin-1-one (ZC2) is a newly synthesized isoquinolinone compound. Its effect on vasodilation was evaluated in the present study. Isometric tension of rat artery rings was recorded by a sensitive myography system in vitro. The results showed that ZC2 relaxed rat mesenteric arteries pre-contracted by KCl, phenylephrine and 9, 11- dideoxy- 11α, 9α-epoxymethano-prostaglandin F2α (U46619), and abdominal aorta pre-contracted by KCl in a concentration-dependent manner. The ZC2-induced vasodilation was not affected by an endothelium denudation. ZC2 rightwards shifted the concentration-contraction curves, induced by KCl, phenylephrine, and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) in a non-parallel manner, which suggests that the vasodilation effects are most likely via voltage-dependent calcium channel (VDCC) and receptor-operated calcium channel (ROCC). Moreover, in Ca2+-free medium, ZC2 concentration-dependently depressed the vasoconstrictions induced by phenylephrine and CaCl2, and decreased a contractile response induced by caffeine, which indicates a role of extracellular Ca2+ influx inhibition through VDCC and ROCC, and intracellular Ca2+ release from Ca2+ store via the ryanodine receptors. Glibenclamide did not affect the vasodilation induced by ZC2, suggesting that ATP sensitive potassium channel is not involved in the vasodilation. The results indicate that ZC2 induces vasodilation by inhibiting the VDCC and ROCC, and receptormediated Ca2+ influx and release. The inhibition of intracellular Ca2+ release may be mediated via the ryanodine receptors.
