<▼1><P>Well dispersed MnCO3 quantum dots (∼1.2 nm) decorated on Ni(HCO3)2–MnCO3 as a cathode electrode for high performance supercapacitors.</P></▼1><▼2><P>We have developed a high performance supercapacitor cathode electrode composed of well dispersed MnCO3 quantum dots (QDs, ∼1.2 nm) decorated on nickel hydrogen carbonate–manganese carbonate (Ni(HCO3)2–MnCO3) hedgehog-like shell@needle (MnCO3 QDs/NiH–Mn–CO3) composites directly grown onto a 3D macro-porous nickel foam as a binder-free supercapacitor electrode by a facile and scalable hydrothermal method. The MnCO3 QDs/NiH–Mn–CO3 composite electrode exhibited a remarkable maximum specific capacitance of 2641.3 F g−1 at 3 A g−1 and 1493.3 F g−1 at 15 A g−1. Moreover, the asymmetric supercapacitor with MnCO3 QDs/NiH–Mn–CO3 composites as the positive electrode and graphene as the negative electrode showed an energy density of 58.1 W h kg−1 at a power density of 900 W kg−1 as well as excellent cycling stability with 91.3% retention after 10 000 cycles, which exceeded the energy densities of most previously reported nickel or manganese oxide/hydroxide-based asymmetric supercapacitors. The ultrahigh capacitive performance is attributed to the presence of the high surface area core–shell nanostructure, the well dispersed MnCO3 quantum dots, and the high conductivity of MnCO3 quantum dots as well as the synergetic effect between multiple transition metal ions. The superior supercapacitive performance of the MnCO3 QDs/NiH–Mn–CO3 composites makes them promising cathode materials for high energy density asymmetric supercapacitors.</P></▼2>

A 2-Benzyl-5-hydroxy-6-methoxy-3, 4-dihydroisoquinolin-1-one (ZC2) is a newly synthesized isoquinolinone compound. Its effect on vasodilation was evaluated in the present study. Isometric tension of rat artery rings was recorded by a sensitive myography system in vitro. The results showed that ZC2 relaxed rat mesenteric arteries pre-contracted by KCl, phenylephrine and 9, 11- dideoxy- 11α, 9α-epoxymethano-prostaglandin F2α (U46619), and abdominal aorta pre-contracted by KCl in a concentration-dependent manner. The ZC2-induced vasodilation was not affected by an endothelium denudation. ZC2 rightwards shifted the concentration-contraction curves, induced by KCl, phenylephrine, and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) in a non-parallel manner, which suggests that the vasodilation effects are most likely via voltage-dependent calcium channel (VDCC) and receptor-operated calcium channel (ROCC). Moreover, in Ca2+-free medium, ZC2 concentration-dependently depressed the vasoconstrictions induced by phenylephrine and CaCl2, and decreased a contractile response induced by caffeine, which indicates a role of extracellular Ca2+ influx inhibition through VDCC and ROCC, and intracellular Ca2+ release from Ca2+ store via the ryanodine receptors. Glibenclamide did not affect the vasodilation induced by ZC2, suggesting that ATP sensitive potassium channel is not involved in the vasodilation. The results indicate that ZC2 induces vasodilation by inhibiting the VDCC and ROCC, and receptormediated Ca2+ influx and release. The inhibition of intracellular Ca2+ release may be mediated via the ryanodine receptors.

Hereditary non-polyposis Colorectal Cancer (HNPCC) is an autosomal dominant inheritance syndrome. HNPCC is the most common hereditary variant of colorectal cancer (CRC), which accounts for 2-5% CRCs, mainly due to hMLH1 and hMSH2 mutations that impair DNA repair functions. Our study aimed to identify the patterns of hMSH2 and hMLH1 mutations in Chinese HNPCC patients. Ninety-eight unrelated families from China meeting Amsterdam or Bethesda criteria were included in our study. Germline mutations in MLH1 and MSH2 genes, located in the exons and the splice-site junctions, were screened in the 98 probands by direct sequencing. Eleven mutations were found in ten patients (11%), with six in MLH1 (54.5%) and five in MSH2 (45.5%) genes. One patient had mutations in both MLH1 and MSH2 genes. Three novel mutations in MLH1 gene (c.157_160delGAGG, c.2157dupT and c.-64G>T) were found for the first time, and one suspected hotspot in MSH2 (c.1168C>T) was revealed.
