Data Framework Design of EDISON 2.0 Digital Platform for Convergence Research

With improving computing performance, various digital platforms are being developed to enable easily utilization of high-performance computing environments. EDISON 1.0 is an online simulation platform widely used in computational science and engineering education. As the research paradigm changes, the demand for developing the EDISON 1.0 platform centered on simulation into the EDISON 2.0 platform centered on data and artificial intelligence is growing. Herein, a data framework, a core module for data-centric research on EDISON 2.0 digital platform, is proposed. The proposed data framework provides the following three functions. First, it provides a data repository suitable for the data lifecycle to increase research reproducibility. Second, it provides a new data model that can integrate, manage, search, and utilize heterogeneous data to support a data-driven interdisciplinary convergence research environment. Finally, it provides an exploratory data analysis (EDA) service and data enrichment using an AI model, both developed to strengthen data reliability and maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of research endeavors. Using the EDISON 2.0 data framework, researchers can conduct interdisciplinary convergence research using heterogeneous data and easily perform data pre-processing through the web-based UI. Further, it presents the opportunity to leverage the derived data obtained through AI technology to gain insights and create new research topics.

웹(WEB)의 발전과 더불어 대부분의 이용자 지원 시스템들이 웹을 기반으로 개발되거나 변경되어지고 있다. 또한, SOA, 클라우딩 컴퓨팅 등 현재 이슈가 되는 대부분의 정보서비스 관련 부분들이 서비스 중심으로 사고하고 구현할 수 있는 체제로 바뀌어 가고 있으며, 정보서비스를 구현하기 위해 개발자는 물리적인 하드웨어 혹은 전산 장비가 무엇인지 알 필요 없이 해당 서비스를 설계하고 지원 받기를 원한다. 본 논문에서는 전산실에서 보유하고 있는 서버, 스토리지, 네트워크 장비 등의 자원을 서비스 이용자에게 효율적으로 제공하고 관리할 수 있는 시스템을 구축하여, 이용자의 요구 사항을 효과적으로 지원하는 내용을 다루며, 이를 위해 정보서비스 지원 신청서 및 수행되는 작업 프로세스를 정의한다.

4세대 연구 패러다임의 도래와 함께 데이터가 연구의 중심이 되었고, 인공지능(AI)에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되면서 데이터의 중요성이 심화되고 있다. 인공지능 기술을 다양한 분야에 적용하려는 노력이 증가하고 있으며, 다양한 분야의 데이터를 다루기 위한 융합 연구의 필요성이 높아지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 융합 연구 플랫폼에서 데이터를 분석 및 활용하는데 필요한 메타데이터를 정의하고 다양한 분야에서 데이터 기반 융합 연구를 지원한다.

통신망의 발전으로 사용자는 새로운 인터넷 서비스를 요구하게 되었다. 이러한 서비스의 대부분은 멀티 캐스팅을 사용하며, 전송되는 데이터는 대용량의 멀티미디어 데이터가 주를 이루고 있다. 멀티미디어 서비스는 일정한 수준의 서비스를 위하여 신뢰도를 보장해야만 한다. 신뢰도는 경로의 흡수와 관련되어 있다. 즉, 경로에 포함된 홉의 수가 많아지면 그 경로를 통한 서비스의 신뢰도는 떨어지게 된다. 이러한 이유로 전송에 관련된 경로의 흡수에 제한을 두는 것은 통신의 신뢰성을 위하여 고려되어져야하는 중요한 문제이다. 본 논문에서는 멀티캐스트 트리의 각 경로의 흡수와 비용의 관계를 알아보기 위해 유전자 알고리즘과 개미 알고리즘을 사용한다.
Idle Mode for Deep Power Save in IEEE 802.11 WLANs

Along with the wide acceptance of IEEE 802.11 wireless local area network (WLAN), new applications such as Internet protocol (IP) telephony over WLAN are fast emerging today. For battery-powered IP phone devices, the life time extension is a key concern for the market acceptance while today’s 802.11 is not optimized for such an operation. In this paper, we propose a novel idle mode operation, which comprises paging, idle handoff, and delayed handoff. Under the idle mode operation, a mobile host (MH) without any active session does not need to perform handoff within a predefined paging area (PA). Only when it enters a new PA, an idle handoff is performed. The proposed idle mode allows an MH without traffic to extend its life time. We develop a new analytical model in order to comparatively evaluate our proposed scheme. The numerical results demonstrate that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing schemes with respect to power consumption.
History and Trends of Data Education in Korea - KISTI Data Education Based on 2001-2019 Statistics

Big data, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning are keywords that represent the Fourth industrial Revolution. In addition, as the development of science and technology, the Korean government, public institutions and industries want professionals who can collect, analyze, utilize and predict data. This means that data analysis and utilization education become more important. Education on data analysis and utilization is increasing with trends in other academy. However, it is true that not many academy run long-term and systematic education. Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) is a data ecosystem hub and one of its performance missions has been providing data utilization and analysis education to meet the needs of industries, institutions and governments since 1966. In this study, KISTI’s data education was analyzed using the number of curriculum trainees per year from 2001 to 2019. With this data, the change of interest in education in information and data field was analyzed by reflecting social and historical situations. And we identified the characteristics of KISTI and trainees. It means that the identity, characteristics, infrastructure, and resources of the institution have a greater impact on the trainees’ interest of data-use education.In particular, KISTI, as a research institute, conducts research in various fields, including bio, weather, traffic, disaster and so on. And it has various research data in science and technology field. The purpose of this study can provide direction forthe establishment of new curriculum using data that can represent KISTI's strengths and identity. One of the conclusions of this paper would be KISTI's greatest advantages if it could be used in education to analyze and visualize many research data. Finally, through this study, it can expect that KISTI will be able to present a new direction for designing data curricula with quality education that can fulfill its role and responsibilities and highlight its strengths.
A MAC/PHY cross-layer design for efficient ARQ protocols

<P>In many wireless data systems, automatic repeat request (ARQ) and hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) work independently. In this paper, we introduce a new ARQ feedback scheme called Cross-Layer ARQ (CL-ARQ), where ARQ closely interoperates with HARQ by making use of the acknowledgement of HARQ internally. By doing so, CL-ARQ not only removes the overhead for ARQ acknowledgement messages, but also improves the average delivery delay and TCP throughput. Especially, when the entities in charge of HARQ and ARQ are located far apart geographically, CL-ARQ remarkably outperforms the legacy scheme.</P>
