The purpose of this study is to propose a model for service programs and management strategies for the division of family education in Healthy Families Center. For the purpose, the researchers find out demands for the family education programs of people in Yong-San Gu, Seoul, exam the effect of each family education program of Yong-San Gu & Sookmyung Women's University Healthy Families Center from June to December, 2004. According to the results, people in Yong-San Gu need economic education service mostly, and they want to study at Saturday afternoon. The programs show positive effect on the improvement of family health.
Duchenne형 進行性 筋異養症 保因者 檢出에 Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism 이용에 관한 硏究

We performed genetic analysis for detection of carrier state of Duchenne's muscular dystrophy (DMD). As genetic markers of the disorder, We used DNA-sequence polymorphisms detected with 6 different DNA probes derived from the vicinity of the DMD locus at genetic distance less than 15 cmo or from within the gene. on the short arm of X chromosome. In the family we studied. a consultand was a 29 years old woman whose maternal grandfather was a DMD patient who was unavailable. Therefore, all of her maternal aunts were DMD carriers whose next generations were requested for DNA studies. On the basis of linkage analysis. a proband and her niece were deemed to be unaffected with an accuracy of more than 99%, and we anticipated another two femals and one malt to be unaffected with 98% probability (normal serum creatine kinase level) where crossover events between intragenic(pERT 87.30) and flanking probes(pXUT23) were detected. but carrire risk of a female with the same haplotype was elevated to 41% taking account of an increased serum creatine kinase level. Two other females were predicted to be affected with 99.9 and 97.1% probabilities each. However. a genetic interpretation was impossible for one male in which a crossover breakpoint could not be determinied because of his mother's homozygosity of the alleles between crossovered alleles where hitherto pessibility of intragenic crossover could not be ruled out Our experience suggests that genetic diagnosis based on recombinant deoxyribonucleic acid techniques are assuming increasing importance. and provide a highly accurate method for carrier detection and prenatal diagnosis of DMD. By the way, despite the large number of intragenic and flanking DNA polymorhpisms available, uncertainties often remain in the genetic diagnosis of DMD. Pitfalls are presented by the large size of the region in which Duchenne's mutations can occur. Crossover events in this region. especially intragenic ones, which result in an exchange of DNA between two X chromosomes, can, rener DNA-marker studies inaccurate.
Clinical effectiveness of wireless CROS (contralateral routing of offside signals) hearing aids.
Ryu, Nam-Gyu,Moon, Il Joon,Byun, Hayoung,Jin, Sun Hwa,Park, Heesung,Jang, Kyu-Sun,Cho, Yang-Sun Springer International 2015 European archives of oto-rhino-laryngology Vol.272 No.9
<P>This study evaluated the clinical effectiveness of wireless contralateral routing of offside signals hearing aids (CROS) in patients with severe to profound unilateral sensorineural hearing loss (USNHL). Twenty-one patients with USNHL were enrolled in this prospective study. The change of subjective satisfaction was evaluated using three questionnaires (K-HHIE, K-IOI-HA, K-SSQ). Changes in objective measurements were evaluated with sound localization test (SLT) and hearing in noise test (HINT). These tests were performed at pre-CROS fitting, 2 and 4?weeks after use of CROS. Subjects were grouped according to the age: young (<40?years) vs. old (40?years) group. The average K-HHIE and K-SSQ scores significantly improved with the use of CROS. SLT result revealed that hit rate and error degree improved in the young group and lateralization ability improved in both groups. In quiet environments, the reception threshold for speech also indicated a significant benefit in the young group. When the noise was presented to the normal ear, HINT revealed benefit of CROS, while loss of performance with CROS use was significant when noise was presented to the impaired ear. Wireless CROS provided increased satisfaction and overall improvement of localization and hearing. Although true binaural hearing cannot be obtained, CROS is a practical option for rehabilitation of USNHL.</P>
Molecular Characteristics of Two Laccase from the Basidiomycete Fungus Polyporus brumalis
Sun-Hwa Ryu,A-Young Lee,Myungkil Kim 한국미생물학회 2008 The journal of microbiology Vol.46 No.1
Two laccase cDNAs, pblac1 and pblac2, were cloned from a white-rot fungus strain, Polyporus brumalis (KFRI 20912). The cloned cDNAs consisted of 1,829 bp and 1,804 bp, and their open reading frames encoded proteins of 520 and 524 amino acids, with calculated molecular masses of approximately 55.9 kDa and 56 kDa, respectively. The deduced amino acid sequences of each protein showed 70% similarity. The copper binding regions were conserved in both proteins, as in other fungal laccases. RT-PCR analysis revealed that the transcript levels of the two laccases increased progressively in shallow stationary culture liquid medium. The transcript level of each laccase was induced when the fungus was exposed to di-butyl phthalate (DBP), suggesting that the two laccases are involved in DBP degradation. The overexpression of the pblac1 gene was derived by the promoter of a gene for glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, using a homologous system. The activity of laccase in the transformants was significantly higher than that of the wild type. The identification of these laccase cDNAs was a first step to characterize the molecular events related to the lignin degradation ability of this basidiomycetous fungus, as well as the degradation of many recalcitrant xenobiotics.

<P>Previously, the <I>swpa4 </I>peroxidase gene has been shown to be inducible by a variety of abiotic stresses and pathogenic infections in sweet potato (<I>Ipomoea batatas</I>). To elucidate its regulatory mechanism at the transcriptional level under various stress conditions, we isolated and characterized the promoter region (2374 bp) of <I>swpa4 </I>(referred to as <I>SWPA4</I>). We performed a transient expression assay in tobacco protoplasts with deletions from the 5′-end of <I>SWPA4 </I>promoter fused to the β-glucuronidase (GUS) reporter gene. The −1408 and −374 bp deletions relative to the transcription start site (+1) showed 8 and 4.5 times higher GUS expression than the cauliflower mosaic virus <I>35S </I>promoter, respectively. In addition, transgenic tobacco plants expressing GUS under the control of −2374, −1408 or −374 bp region of <I>SWPA4 </I>promoter were generated and studied in various tissues under abiotic stresses and pathogen infection. Gel mobility shift assays revealed that nuclear proteins from sweet potato cultured cells specifically interacted with 60-bp fragment (−178/−118) in −374 bp promoter region. In silico analysis indicated that four kinds of <I>cis</I>-acting regulatory sequences, reactive oxygen species-related element activator protein 1 (AP1), CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein alpha element, ethylene-responsive element (ERE) and heat-shock element, are present in the −60 bp region (−178/−118), suggesting that the −60 bp region might be associated with stress inducibility of the <I>SWPA4 </I>promoter.</P>
