Comprehensive Investigations on QUEST: a Novel QoS-Enhanced Stochastic Packet Scheduler for Intelligent LTE Routers

( Suman Paul ),( Malay Kumar Pandit ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2018 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.12 No.2

In this paper we propose a QoS-enhanced intelligent stochastic optimal fair real-time packet scheduler, QUEST, for 4G LTE traffic in routers. The objective of this research is to maximize the system QoS subject to the constraint that the processor utilization is kept nearly at 100 percent. The QUEST has following unique advantages. First, it solves the challenging problem of starvation for low priority process - buffered streaming video and TCP based; second, it solves the major bottleneck of the scheduler Earliest Deadline First’s failure at heavy loads. Finally, QUEST offers the benefit of arbitrarily pre-programming the process utilization ratio. Three classes of multimedia 4G LTE QCI traffic, conversational voice, live streaming video, buffered streaming video and TCP based applications have been considered. We analyse two most important QoS metrics, packet loss rate (PLR) and mean waiting time. All claims are supported by discrete event and Monte Carlo simulations. The simulation results show that the QUEST scheduler outperforms current state-of-the-art benchmark schedulers. The proposed scheduler offers 37 percent improvement in PLR and 23 percent improvement in mean waiting time over the best competing current scheduler Accuracy-aware EDF.

Dynamics and risk assessment of SARS-CoV-2 in urban areas: a geographical assessment on Kolkata Municipal Corporation, India

        Paul Suman,Bhattacharya Subhasis,Mandal Buddhadev,Haldar Subrata,Mandal Somnath,Kundu Sanjit,Biswas Anupam 대한공간정보학회 2021 Spatial Information Research Vol.29 No.3

SARS-CoV-2 has been transmitted and outbreak took place in India during the last week before nationwide 1st lockdown took place. Urban areas found more vulnerable and reported nearly 65% of cases during every phase of lockdown. Mumbai, among four metropolitan cities found huge number of containment zones with nearly 30% of SARS-CoV-2 cases indicating clustering of cases. Most of the containment zones of SARS-CoV-2 cases in Kolkata Municipal Corporation found a significant relation with slum areas. The study primarily tries considering the nature of SARS-CoV-2 cases in different urban centres with the help of cartographic techniques. AHP method has been used to determine the factors responsible for such concentration of SARS-CoV-2 cases with vulnerability assessment (exposure, sensitivity and resilience) and risks. Before nationwide lockdown starts, the share of urban centres found 25% which has been transformed into nearly 60% at the end of 3rd phase of lockdown. Growth rate of SARS-CoV-2 cases found very high for Chennai and Thane with less number of doubling time to nation. Slum concentration and containment density shows a higher degree of correlation in Kolkata Municipal Corporation. Risk map also shows the concentration of cases in central and north Kolkata with higher degree of diseases exposure and sensitivity. Control measures must be taken by the central and state Government to minimise the transmission rate of SARS-CoV-2 mainly urban areas. As urban area contributing a higher share of SARS-CoV-2 cases, a proper management plan must be enforce.

An insight on land use and land cover change due to tourism growth in coastal area and its environmental consequences from West Bengal, India

Saha Jayanta,Paul Suman 대한공간정보학회 2021 Spatial Information Research Vol.29 No.4

In developing countries, tourism often considered as the tool of economic development. The coastal virgin environment provides lot of opportunities for establishment of tourism industries. Along the coastal tract of Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal, India, a number of tourism destinations have been emerged and. Mandarmani–Tajpur area has found as a booming of tourists during last 10–15 years. This study analyse the tourism-led land use change around these destinations during 2009 to 2019 and its environmental consequences. Google Earth satellite images of the study area for 2009 and 2019 have been utilized for LULC classification. Based on the data derived from LULC classification a land use change matrix has been constructed to identify the land use land cover change between 2009 and 2019. The result confirmed that decreased in agriculture land, vegetation cover, aquaculture with water bodies and sand dune. On the other part, current fallow, settlement area and area under tourism related activities have been found in increasing nature. The agriculture lands, current fallow, sand dunes, vegetation cover have been transformed into tourism area because of establishment of hotels and resorts and tourism related enterprises over the dunes, agriculture land current fallows. Hotels and resorts have been constructed by clearing of vegetation cover. Due to flourish of tourism activities within CRZ (Coastal Regulation Zone), entire landscape has been fragmented, vegetation cover degenerated, and dune ecology has been destructed. Finally, discussion has indicated to a sustainable tourism development plan for controlling the negative environmental consequences.

      • A fluorescent probe for bisulfite ions: its application to two-photon tissue imaging

        Agarwalla, Hridesh,Pal, Suman,Paul, Anirban,Jun, Yong Woong,Bae, Juryang,Ahn, Kyo Han,Srivastava, Divesh N.,Das, Amitava The Royal Society of Chemistry 2016 Journal of Materials Chemistry B Vol.4 No.48

<P>A benzoxazinone based fluorescent probe for the specific and efficient detection of bisulfite ions in aqueous medium is described. The probe formed a bisulfite/sulphite adduct with an associated turn-on fluorescence response in the red wavelength region. No interference was observed in the detection process from all possible competing anions and molecules, including cyanide ion, cysteine, homocysteine and glutathione. In addition, the probe showed a fast response time, low detection limit, and cell membrane permeability. Furthermore, the probe was two-photon excitable, enabling imaging of endogenous bisulfite ions in HeLa cells as well as in deep tissues from different organs of mouse.</P>

      • Influence of maternal and socioeconomic factors on breast milk fatty acid composition in urban, low‐income families

        Nayak, Uma,Kanungo, Suman,Zhang, Dadong,Ross Colgate, E.,Carmolli, Marya P.,Dey, Ayan,Alam, Masud,Manna, Byomkesh,Nandy, Ranjan Kumar,Kim, Deok Ryun,Paul, Dilip Kumar,Choudhury, Saugato,Sahoo, Sushama John Wiley and Sons Inc. 2017 Maternal & child nutrition Vol.13 No.4

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>The lipid composition of breast milk may have a significant impact on early infant growth and cognitive development. Comprehensive breast milk data is lacking from low‐income populations in the Indian subcontinent impeding assessment of deficiencies and limiting development of maternal nutritional interventions. A single breast milk specimen was collected within 6 weeks postpartum from two low‐income maternal cohorts of exclusively breastfed infants, from Dhaka, Bangladesh (<I>n</I> = 683) and Kolkata, India (<I>n</I> = 372) and assayed for percentage composition of 26 fatty acids. Mature milk (>15 days) in Dhaka (<I>n</I> = 99) compared to Kolkata (<I>n</I> = 372) was higher in total saturated fatty acid (SFA; mean 48% vs. 44%) and disproportionately lower in ω3‐polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA), hence the ω6‐ and ω3‐PUFA ratio in Dhaka were almost double the value in Kolkata. In both sites, after adjusting for days of lactation, increased maternal education was associated with decreased SFA and PUFA, and increasing birth order or total pregnancies was associated with decreasing ω6‐PUFA or ω3‐PUFA by a factor of 0.95 for each birth and pregnancy. In Dhaka, household prosperity was associated with decreased SFA and PUFA and increased ω6‐ and ω3‐PUFA. Maternal height was associated with increased SFA and PUFA in Kolkata (1% increase per 1 cm), but body mass index showed no independent association with either ratio in either cohort. In summary, the socioeconomic factors of maternal education and household prosperity were associated with breast milk composition, although prosperity may only be important in higher cost of living communities. Associated maternal biological factors were height and infant birth order, but not adiposity. Further study is needed to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of these effects.</P>

Tourism in retrospect of COVID-19 on global perspective using analytical hierarchy process

        Saha Jayanta,Haldar Subrata,Bhattacharya Subhasis,Paul Suman 대한공간정보학회 2021 Spatial Information Research Vol.29 No.6

Covid-19 pandemic has brought remarkable shocks over tourism globally. In case of tourism such experience of epidemic is quite new in terms of time gestation. Even world agencies cannot estimate the amount of loss and fails to predict the full pace running stage of the sector. The study tries to estimate the impact of pandemic over the tourism. Rather than these, the main aspect of the study is to formulate a rank resulted by tourism impact of the studied countries over its economics considering the variables like GDP share of tourism and number of tourist arrivals (2017, 2018 and 2019), tourism dependency rate, tourism competitive index, jobs directly depends on tourism and contribution of tourism in terms of international receipts. The study uses Analytical Hierarchical Process to estimate the impact of Covid-19 over tourism. Results shows the countries with higher dependencies over tourism severely affected and those results are in linearity.

        Pradeep Kumar,Manish Varyani,Praveen K. Khatri,Subham Paul,Suman L. Jain 한국공업화학회 2017 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.49 No.-

The present work describes a simple, highly efficient and cost effective approach for efficient capturing ofCO2 and its conversion into high value product by using amino acid derived task specific ionic liquids(AAIL). Among the three different kinds of amino acid (histidine, aspartic acid and glutamic acid) derivedionic liquids studied, histidine derived amino acid ionic liquid was found to be an efficient capturingmedium for CO2 and its conversion to corresponding cyclic carbonates by reaction with epoxides underambient reaction conditions at atmospheric pressure using dimethylcarbonate as reaction medium. Thesalient features of the developed methodology are the use of biocompatible amino acid derived ionicliquid, efficient capturing and conversion of carbon dioxide, metal free system, excellent product yieldsand atmospheric pressure condition.
