        The Relevance of Serum Ghrelin Concentration to Severity of Acute Pancreatitis

        Background/Aims: Ghrelin has recently been reported as exerting a protective effect in the damaged pancreas in rats. We investigated the correlation between severity of acute pancreatitis and serum ghrelin concentrations. Methods: Blood samples were collected three times (at admission, after 48 hours, and at discharge) from patients admitted with acute pancreatitis. We divided the patients into nonrisk and risk groups. The risk group was defined as the presence of at least one of following risk factors for severe acute pancreatitis: Ranson`s score ≥3, acute physiology and chronic health evaluation (APACHE) II score ≥8, C-reactive protein (CRP) ≥150 mg/L, and CT severity index (CTSI) ≥4. Serum ghrelin concentrations were measured with RIA kit and analyzed based on clinical and biochemical parameters. Results: A total of 53 patients was enrolled in this study: 28 in the nonrisk group and 25 in the risk group. At admission, the ghrelin concentration was significantly higher in the risk group (286.39±272.19 vs 175.96±138.87 pg/mL [mean±SD], p=0.049). However, the ghrelin concentration did not differ significantly between the two groups after 48 hours (p=0.450) and at discharge (p=0.678). The overall ghrelin concentration was significantly lower at admission than at discharge (240.65±247.96 vs 369.41±254.27 pg/mL, p=0.001). Conclusions: Patients with risk factors for severe acute pancreatitis have higher serum ghrelin concentrations. (Gut Liver 2010;4:234-240)

        Effect of Bacteriophages on Viability and Growth of Co-cultivated Weissella and Leuconostoc in Kimchi Fermentation

        This study aimed to understand the survival and growth patterns of bacteriophage-sensitive Weissella and Leuconostoc strains involved in kimchi fermentation. Dongchimi kimchi was prepared, and Weissella and Leuconostoc were co-cultivated in the dongchimi broth. Weissella cibaria KCTC 3807 growth was accompanied by rapid lysis with an increase in the bacteriophage quantity. Leuconostoc citreum KCCM 12030 followed the same pattern. The bacteriophage-insensitive strains W. cibaria KCTC 3499 and Leuconostoc mesenteroides KCCM 11325 survived longer under low pH as their growth was not accompanied by bacteriophages. The bacteriophage lysate of W. cibaria KCTC 3807 accelerated and promoted the growth of Leuconostoc. Overall, our results show that bacteriophages might affect the viability and population dynamics of lactic acid bacteria during kimchi fermentation.

        An Affine Projection Algorithm With Dynamic Selection of Input Vectors

        <P> We present a novel affine projection algorithm (APA) which dynamically selects input vectors in order to improve convergence performance. The optimum selection of the input vectors is derived by the largest decrease of the mean-square deviation. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has a fast convergence speed and a small steady-state error compared to the conventional APA. In addition, the proposed algorithm retains a low overall computational complexity. </P>

      • Development of a Dynamic 3D Foot Scanning Stage

        Purpose: Recently, not only professional athletes but also normal people who enjoy sports are interested in customized insoles for improvement of performance and prevention of injury. However, as those tries just measure the simple shape of the foot in the static postpose, they do not reflect variability appearing in dynamic conditions. Therefore, this study aims to develop a foot scanning stage that can quantitatively measure variability of the foot in static and dynamic conditions. Method: The stage that walking is enabled was made for a transparent acrylic panel as the measurement point. Under the acrylic panel, a depth camera(Realsense, Intel) was installed, and at the edges of the acrylic panel uniaxial force sensors(FC22-100, msisensor) were applied for the measurement of ground reaction force. The depth camera was measured with 60Hz and force sensors with 960Hz, and these signals were stored by being synchronized to the manufactured integrated software(Visual studio 2013, Microsoft). Using the developed scanning stage, we measured the forms of foot during static position and natural walking position. To verify the measured forms of foot, they were compared with data measured with high performance 3-dimension laser scanner( Spider, Artec Group) and then verified. Result: We developed a foot scanning stage which measures not only a static shape of a footbut also its dynamic changes duringvarious human gait. In addition, verification of data gained from scanning stage through high performance 3-dimension laser scanner was successfully done. Conclusion: Using the developed a scanning stage, changing shapes of the foot at various human movements can be achieved. This study will be an important material for the further studies on changes in the shape of the foot according to movement characteristics, or for establishing a protocol that prevents the risk of injury arising out of changes in the shape of the foot.         펜싱 런지 동작에서 주동다리와 비 주동다리의 운동역학적 특성

        본 연구의 목적은 스포츠 영역에서 순간적인 신체의 이동 방법으로 많이 활용되는 런지 동작의 수행력에 미치는 요인을 근전도 분석이 포함된 운동역학적 분석을 통하여 규명하는 것이다. 숙련된 14명의 펜싱 선수를 대상으로 피험자가 제자리에서 최대한 멀리 나아갈 수 있는 킥 런지를 수행하게 하고 이를 3차원 동작분석기와 근전도 시스템을 적용하여 분석하였다. 킥 런지의 사전 동작이 포함된 동작과 그렇지 않은 동작을 구분하였고 이를 주동다리와 비 주동다리에서 모두 실시하였다. 이 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 사전 동작이 포함된 런지에서 보다 높은 수행력을 보였다. 또한 숙련도가 높아질수록 런지의 길이가 길어지는데 여기서 오는 충격량을 제어하기 위한 기전으로 운동 수행 시간을 단축하는 전략적 기전이 사용 되는 것으로 보인다. 이와 더불어 주동다리의 동작에서 모멘트와 파워 등의 역학적 변인의 차이가 나타났는데 이는 근육을 동원하는 유기적 능력의 차이에서 기인하는 것으로 보인다. The purpose of this research is to investigate the factors affecting the performance capability of lunge movements by performing lunge movements which are commonly used as a method of instant physical movement in sports with a kinetic analysis including an EMG analysis. This research targeted 14 skilled fencers and made the subjects perform kick-lunges which allow them to go farthest from their positions and performed an analysis on such, applying a 3D motion analysis system and an EMG system. The subjects performed kick-lunges in two movements; one with a preliminary movement and the other without it and those are performed with both dominant leg and non-dominant leg. The result of this research is as follows. The lunges with a preliminary movement showed higher performance capability than those without it. Furthermore, as the level of skills gets higher, the length of lunges gets longer, and it seemed that a tactical mechanism shortening exercise performance times was used as a mechanism to control the impulse coming from such lengthened lunges. In addition, a difference appeared in mechanical factors such as moment and power in a dominant leg movement and it seemed to result from a difference in an functional capability using muscles.

        본 연구에서는 관절계 역학적 특성을 정량화 하기 위한 슬관절의 수동 진자실험에서의 문제점이었던, 슬관절 초기각도 및 낙하시점의 정확성을 개선하는 것을 목표로 한다. 따라서 하퇴의 낙하 초기 각도와 그 시점을 제어 할 수 있는 시스랩을 설계 및 제작하였고, Labview프로그램을 통하여 제어 하였다. 그에 따라 측정 시스템의 정확성이 개선된 것을 실험을 통해 확인하였다.

        워킹화 기능 개선을 위한 보행 속도에 따른 중년 여성의 하지 동작 특성 연구

        본 연구의 목적은 중년 여성의 보행 속도에 따른 하지 동작의 특성을 밝히고 보행 안정성 향상을 위한 워킹화의 기능 개선 요소를 제안하는 것이다. 건강한 중년여성 30명을 대상으로 자기가 선호하는 속도와 선호 속도에 20% 빠른 속도의 보행을 수행하도록 하였다. 3차원 동작 측정시스템과 족저 압력 측정 시스템을 이용하여 동작 특성을 계측하였다. 선호 속도와 빠른 속도의 동작 차이 분석을 위하여 종속표본 t-검증을 수행하였다. 이 때, 유의수준은 α=.05로 설정하였다. 빠른 걸음의 보행이 선호 속도의 보행보다 발의 지면 접지각이 컷고, 동작 안정성이 낮았다. 또한 빠른 보행에서 큰 족저압력이 계측 되었으며 특히 엄지발가락의 압력이 높았다. 빠른 보행에서의 신체 안정성과 발의 압력 분산을 위한 신발의 기능 개선이 필요할 것으로 판단된다. The objective of this study was to reveal the characteristics of lower extremity motions of middle-aged women in accordance with their walking speed, and also to suggest elements of improving functions of walking-shoe for the improvement of gait stability. Total 30 healthy middle-aged women were asked to walk in their preferred speed and also speed 20% faster than that. Using the 3D motion capture system and the plantar pressure measuring system, the characteristics of lower extremity motions were measured. For the analysis on differences in motions between preferred and faster speeds, the paired t-test was performed. At this time, the significance level was set up as α=.05. The walking in faster speed showed the greater ground contact angle than walking in preferred speed while its gait stability was low. Also, the faster walking showed the bigger plantar pressure, and especially, the pressure on the great toe was high. It would be necessary to improve functions of shoes for the gait stability and dispersion of pressure on feet while fast walking.

        〈속보논문〉 가속도계를 이용한 마비환자의 보행이벤트 검출

        The purpose of this study is to develop a practical gait-event detection system which is necessary for the FES (functional electrical stimulation) control of locomotion in paralyzed patients. The system is comprised of a sensor board and an event recognition algorithm. We focused on the practicality improvement of the system through 1) using accelerometer to get the angle of shank and dispensing with the foot-switches having limitation in indoor or barefoot usage and 2) using a rule-base instead of threshold to determine the heel-off/heel-strike events corresponding the stimulation on/off timing. The sensor signals are transmitted through RF communication and gait-events was detected using the peaks in shank angle. The system could detect two critical gait-events in all five paralyzed patients. The standard deviation of the gait events time from the peaks were smaller when 1.5㎐ cutoff frequency was used in the derivation of the shank angle from the acceleration signals.

      • Effect of Anticipation on Lower Extremity Biomechanics During Side- and Cross-Cutting Maneuvers in Young Soccer Players

        <P><B>Background:</B></P><P>Less mature athletes exhibit biomechanical parameters during cutting maneuvers that may place these athletes at greater risk for injury than their more mature counterparts, especially if the maneuvers are unanticipated. However, most studies on risk factors for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury have focused on neuromuscular and knee kinematic differences between the sexes, not on the biomechanical parameters between specific sporting maneuvers.</P><P><B>Hypotheses:</B></P><P>(1) Anticipation will have a greater effect than the type of cutting maneuver (side- vs cross-cutting) in terms of the biomechanical risk factors for ACL injuries, and (2) the biomechanical risk factors will be different between the 2 types of maneuvers.</P><P><B>Study Design:</B></P><P>Controlled laboratory study.</P><P><B>Methods:</B></P><P>Thirty-seven young, male middle school soccer players participated in this study. Three-dimensional motion analysis featuring ground-reaction force and electromyography of the right leg was used. Kinematics, kinetics, and electromyography data for each athlete were analyzed during anticipated and unanticipated side- and cross-cutting maneuvers. The differences between anticipated and unanticipated states as well as between side- and cross-cutting maneuvers were calculated and compared.</P><P><B>Results:</B></P><P>After unanticipated side-cutting, the time to peak ground-reaction force was longer and peak values were smaller compared with anticipated side-cutting. Flexion, valgus, and internal rotations in the knee joint were larger, and greater flexion and valgus moments were observed. The vastus lateralis and vastus medialis showed lower activity, and the lateral gastrocnemius showed higher activity after unanticipated side-cutting maneuvers. With unanticipated cross-cutting, the time to peak ground-reaction force was longer and peak values were smaller compared with anticipated cross-cutting, and the lateral gastrocnemius showed higher activity. Differences in the peak values of the mediolateral and vertical forces were smaller in the cross-cutting maneuver than in side-cutting. Changes in flexion and adduction of the hip joint, flexion of the knee joint, and inversion of the ankle joint were larger during side-cutting.</P><P><B>Conclusion:</B></P><P>Although there were some interactions between direction and anticipation, anticipating a cutting maneuver generally had a greater effect than the type of maneuver when there was no significant interaction.</P><P><B>Clinical Relevance:</B></P><P>Increases in the valgus angle and moment of the knee joint and higher lateral gastrocnemius activity during the late period showed an association with ACL injury risk factors during side-cutting, and higher lateral gastrocnemius activity during the early period showed an association with injury risk factors during cross-cutting.</P>

        FES 보행을 위한 휴대용 보행 이벤트 검출 시스템

        The purpose of this study is to develop a portable gait-event detection system which is necessary for the cycle-to-cycle FES(functional electrical stimulation) control of locomotion. To make the system portable, we made following modifications in the gait signal measurement system. That is, 1) to make the system wireless using Bluetooth communication, 2) to make the system small-sized and battery-powered by using low power consumption μP(ATmega8535L). The gait-events were analyzed in off-line at the main computer using ANN(Artificial Neural Network). The Proposed system showed no mis-detection of the gait-events of normal subject and hemiplegia subjects. The performance of the system was better than the previous wired-system.
