      • Estimation of Percentage Body Fat in Iranian Junior Taekwondo Team with an Anthropometrics Index

( Mehdi Shahbazi ),( Seyed Fardin Qeysari ),( Sima Dastamooz ),( Majid Nayeri ) 국제태권도학회 2017 International Symposium for Taekwondo Studies Vol.2017 No.-

Purpose: As obesity during childhood and adolescence increases the incidence of many chronic diseases during adulthood, specifying predictive factors can play an important role in human health. Consequently, this study aimed to estimate the percentage body fat in the Iranian Junior Taekwondo Team with an anthropometric index. Methods: We evaluated the accuracy of skinfold thickness, BMI, waist circumference, waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), and waist-to-hip ratio for the prediction of percentage body fat (PBF) in the Iranian Junior Taekwondo team. Subjects were 695 junior expert Taekwondo players (boys: n = 327, 10.91 ± 1.94 years, 145.09 ± 13.54 cm, 37.24 ± 11.69 kg; girls: n = 368, 11.16 ± 2.34 years, 147.84 ± 12.96 cm, 39.77 ± 12.70 kg). Percent body fat was measured by Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA). Moderator variables such as age, gender, and maturity level were adjusted. The adjusted determination coefficient was calculated for each model. Results: The 6SF index (0.87) and 8SF (0.86) index were similarly accurate at predicting PBF and were better than other indexes. BMI (0.64) was a better predictor. The weakest predictor was WHR (0.23). Conclusions: These results indicate that 6SF or 8SF were better than BMI and waist circumference at predicting PBF. This study has important implications for pediatric epidemiological studies aimed at disentangling the effect of body fat on health outcomes.

      • Relationship between Body Type Components and Age of Reaching to Peak Growth (High Peak Speed) in the Iranian Junior Taekwondo Team

( Mehdi Shahbazi ),( Seyed Fardin Qeysari ),( Majid Nayeri ),( Hadi Kashani ),( Sima Dastamooz ) 국제태권도학회 2017 International Symposium for Taekwondo Studies Vol.2017 No.-

Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between body type components and age of peak growth (high peak speed) in the Iranian Junior Taekwondo national team. The peak height growth rate is an important variable for determining maturation in puberty that like other maturation factors is impacted by physical condition and human body type. Methods: Subjects were 1157 expert junior Taekwondo players (boys: n = 742, 10.59 ± 2 years, 145.09 ± 13.54 cm, 37.18 ± 11.06 kg; girls: n = 381, 11.18 ± 2.36 years, 147.92 ± 13.11 cm, 40.03 ± 13.31 kg). Somatotype data were calculated using Heath-Carter instruction, and PHV was measured using the Mirwald formula. Data was analyzed using Pearson correlation and multiple regression analyses. Results: Results of the Pearson correlation analysis in boys revealed that PHV had a positive correlation with ectomorph and negative correlation with endomorph and mesomorph. Total correlation between PHV and somatotype was 0.09, which explained the 0.081 of PHV variance. Results of the regression analysis showed ectomorph and endomorph were significant predictors (ectomorph more than endomorph) of PHV, but mesomorph was not a significant predictor of PHV in the girls group. Results showed that PHV and PWV had no significant relation with body composition. The regression model was: Y = 12.46-0.06a-0.04m-0.07e. Conclusions: These results indicate that endomorph and ectomorph had a significant role in predicting age of PHV, but mesomorph was not significant.

      • Incorporating a Multivariate Approach in Taekwondo Talent Identification by SAFIR Software

( Mehdi Shahbazi ),( Mehdi Naadi Ghafouri Yazdi ),( Sima Dastamooz ) 국제태권도학회 2017 International Symposium for Taekwondo Studies Vol.2017 No.-

Purpose: Talent identification is defined as predicting performance by evaluating physical, psychological, and social features as well as technical ability. What athletes need in order to progress in Taekwondo is to be able to evaluate their current situations and somehow predict how the sport will affect their lives. From this, they can improve their possibilities of success. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine if a multivariate approach in Taekwondo talent identification by SAFIR software can improve athletes’ lives after their competitive careers. Methods: SAFIR software is composed three parts: 1) the evaluation of health indexes, 2) sport talent identification, and 3) and the comparison of subjects with elite athletes. Results: In part one (evaluating health indexes) of this study, subject’s health situation was determined in a report that combines: height, weight, computing standard weight, height growth rate, the level of total body’s water, adult height, body type (ectomorph, mesomorph, and endomorph), Basal metabolic rate (BMR), waist-hip ratio (WHR), and body mass index (BMI). The target group in part two (sport talent identification) was 8-16 years old individuals. One of the most important features that this software offers is the ability to analyze athletes according sports according to their individual characteristics. In this part, anthropometrics features; physiological indexes; and motor perceptual features like personality, speed, agility, flexibility, coordination, balance, and reaction time were examined. In part three, individuals were compared to elite athletes. The data obtained during this step allows athletes to recognize the characteristics and strengths they share with elite athletes. Conclusions: SAFIR’s software allows youth athletes in physical education and sports programs to achieve their desired results. The Islamic Republic of Iran Taekwondo Federation is currently using SAFIR software in all of its talent identification programs.

Effect of AcAc/Al molar ratio on morphological and electrical properties of spray-coated Al2O3 thin films

        Dehghani Mehdi,Lee Hojun,Shahbazi Saeed,Kim Kyoung-Ho,Kang Evan S. Hyunkoo 한국물리학회 2022 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.81 No.7

We present a spray pyrolysis method that can form amorphous Al2O3 thin flms for dielectric applications using low-cost precursor materials. The efect of the precursor molar ratios on morphological and electrical properties of spray-coated Al2O3 thin flms was studied. For a low molar ratio of acetylacetone (AcAc) to Al ions (AcAc/Al), inhomogeneous morphology with the formation of large particles was observed. The increase in AcAc/Al improves the coverage of Al by AcAc molecules, which prevents the premature solidifcation of Al ions, resulting in compact flms with smooth surfaces. On the contrary, excessive AcAc for the high AcAc/Al leaves cracks in the flms due to the evaporation of AcAc during flm deposition. Electrical measurements on metal–insulator-metal (MIM) structures showed consistent results, and superior dielectric performance with sufciently low leakage current was observed for the optimized AcAc/Al values.

Natural convection of nanofluid in a wavy cavity in the presence of magnetic field on variable heat surface temperature

Korosh Javaherdeh,Mehdi Moslemi,Mona Shahbazi 대한기계학회 2017 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.31 No.4

numerical analysis has been performed to investigate the laminar natural convection heat characteristics in a wavy cavity filled with CuO/water nanofluid. One of the sinusoidal walls (BC) is at the volatile high temperature and the opposite wavy surface is at a stable low temperature and the two other walls are considered flat and insulated while the uniform magnetic field is considered. Performing the analysis, the governing equations are given in terms of the stream function-vorticity formulation. In order to solve the nondimensionalized equations, discretizing with second-order accurate central difference method is performed then the successive under relaxation method with appropriate boundary conditions is considered. To validate the numerical model, various comparisons with previously published studies have been conducted and the results are in a good agreement. The main objective is to survey the effects of the Rayleigh number, Hartmann number, and nanoparticles volume fraction on the fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics. The results are illustrated in contours of stream function, constant temperature, and Nusselt number. The results show that the presence of the magnetic field the local Nusselt number decreases at the hot wall. Moreover, the enhancement in the heat transfer performance increases with an increasing nanoparticle concentration. However, for all values of Rayleigh number, the presence of nanoparticles leads to significant enhancement in heat transfer and the increase of Rayleigh number causes the heat transfer mechanism to change from conduction to convection.

Discovery of Novel Cell Surface Markers for Purification of Embryonic Dopamine Progenitors for Transplantation in Parkinson's Disease Animal Models

        Fathi, Ali,Mirzaei, Mehdi,Dolatyar, Banafsheh,Sharifitabar, Mehdi,Bayat, Mahnaz,Shahbazi, Ebrahim,Lee, Jaesuk,Javan, Mohammad,Zhang, Su-Chun,Gupta, Vivek,Lee, Bonghee,Haynes, Paul A.,Baharvand, Hossei American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Bi 2018 Molecular and Cellular Proteomics Vol.17 No.9

<P>Despite the progress in safety and efficacy of cell replacement therapy with pluripotent stem cells (PSCs), the presence of residual undifferentiated stem cells or proliferating neural progenitor cells with rostral identity remains a major challenge. Here we report the generation of a LIM homeobox transcription factor 1 alpha (LMX1A) knock-in GFP reporter human embryonic stem cell (hESC) line that marks the early dopaminergic progenitors during neural differentiation to find reliable membrane protein markers for isolation of midbrain dopaminergic neurons. Purified GFP positive cells in vitro exhibited expression of mRNA and proteins that characterized and matched the midbrain dopaminergic identity. Further quantitative proteomics analysis of enriched LMX1A(+) cells identified several membrane-associated proteins including a polysialylated embryonic form of neural cell adhesion molecule (PSA-NCAM) and contactin 2 (CNTN2), enabling prospective isolation of LMX1A(+) progenitor cells. Transplantation of human-PSC-derived purified CNTN2(+) progenitors enhanced dopamine release from transplanted cells in the host brain and alleviated Parkinson's disease-related phenotypes in animal models. This study establishes an efficient approach for purification of large numbers of human-PSC-derived dopaminergic progenitors for therapeutic applications.</P>

        Alireza Ramezani,Morteza Entezari,Mohammad Mehdi Shahbazi,Yosef Semnani,Homayoun Nikkhah,Mehdi Yaseri 대한안과학회 2017 Korean Journal of Ophthalmology Vol.31 No.2

Purpose: To evaluate the analgesic effect of topical sodium diclofenac 0.1% before retinal laser photocoagulationfor diabetic retinopathy. Methods: Diabetic patients who were candidates for peripheral laser photocoagulation were included in a randomized,placebo-controlled, intraindividual, two-period, and crossover clinical trial. At the first session andbased on randomization, one eye received topical sodium diclofenac 0.1% and the other eye received an artificialtear drop (as placebo) three times before laser treatment. At the second session, eyes were given thealternate drug. Patients scored their pain using visual analogue scale (max, 10 cm) at both sessions. Patientsand the surgeon were blinded to the drops given. Difference of pain level was the main outcome measure. Results: A total of 200 eyes of 100 patients were enrolled. Both treatments were matched regarding the appliedlaser. Pain sensation based on visual analogue scale was 5.6 ± 3.0 in the treated group and 5.5 ± 3.0 in thecontrol group. The calculated treatment effect was 0.15 (95% confidence interval, –0.27 to 0.58; p = 0.486). The estimated period effect was 0.24 (p = 0.530) and the carryover effect was not significant (p = 0.283). Conclusions: Pretreatment with topical sodium diclofenac 0.1% does not have any analgesic effect during peripheralretinal laser photocoagulation in diabetic patients.
