The Genealogy of Korean Modernism in Poetry : Focus on Translations of W. B. Yeats

KIM HANSUNG,CHOI JUNGA 계명대학교 한국학연구원 2018 Acta Koreana Vol.21 No.2

This article describes the generational perspectives revealed in the views of three Korean poets, representing three generations of poetic circles, through their appropriations of the Irish poet W. B. Yeats, who experienced colonial rule as they did. Within the history of modern Korean poetry, Kim Ŏk (b. 1896) stands as a representative of the 1920s, Kim Kirim (b. 1908) of the 1930s, and Kim Suyŏng (1921–1968) of the postcolonial years, especially the 1960s. Though different in their styles and perspectives, they shared the roles of poet, literary critic, and translator and were flagship figures in their respective eras. Looking into the works and poetics of these three poets is tantamount to exploring the history of modern Korean poetry spanning the period between the 1920s and 1960s. Drawing on the fact that all three poets were interested in translating and interpreting Yeats, this article aims to trace the genealogy of Korean modernist poetry by exploring the generational differences in their views on poetry through their mediation of Yeats.

Association of serum mineral parameters with mortality in hemodialysis patients: Data from the Korean endstage renal disease registry

( Yunmi Kim ),( Kyung Don Yoo ),( Hyo Jin Kim ),( Junga Koh ),( Yeonsil Yu ),( Young Joo Kwon ),( Gheun-ho Kim ),( Tae-hyun Yoo ),( Joongyub Lee ),( Dong-chan Jin ),( Bum Soon Choi ),( Yeong Hoon Kim 대한신장학회 2018 Kidney Research and Clinical Practice Vol.37 No.3

Background: We investigated the associations between mineral metabolism parameters and mortality to identify optimal targets in Korean hemodialysis patients. Methods: Among hemodialysis patients registered in the end-stage renal disease registry of the Korean Society of Nephrology between March 2012 and June 2017, those with serum calcium, phosphorus, and intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) measured at enrollment were included. Association of serum levels of calcium, phosphorus, and iPTH with all-cause mortality was analyzed. Results: Among 21,433 enrolled patients, 3,135 (14.6%) died during 24.8 ± 14.5 months of follow-up. After multivariable adjustment, patients in the first quintile of corrected calcium were associated with lower mortality (hazard ratio [HR], 0.84; 95% confidence interval [95% CI], 0.71-0.99; P = 0.003), while those in the fifth quintile were associated with higher mortality (HR, 1.39; 95% CI, 1.20-1.61; P < 0.001) compared with those in the third quintile. For phosphorus, only the lowest quintile was significantly associated with increased mortality (HR, 1.24; 95% CI, 1.08-1.43; P = 0.003). The lowest (HR, 1.18; 95% CI, 1.02-1.36; P = 0.026) and highest quintiles of iPTH (HR, 1.24; 95% CI, 1.05-1.46; P = 0.013) were associated with increased mortality. For target counts achieved according to the Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative guideline, patients who did not achieve any mineral parameter targets hadhigher mortality than those who achieved all three targets (HR, 1.37; 95% CI, 1.12-1.67; P = 0.003). Conclusion: In Korean hemodialysis patients, high serum calcium, low phosphorus, and high and low iPTH levels were associated with increased all-cause mortality.

The Medical Bed System for Preventing Pressure Ulcer Using the Two-Stage Control

        Jungae Kim,Youngdae Lee,Minju Seon,Jae-Young Lim 한국인터넷방송통신학회 2021 Journal of Advanced Smart Convergence Vol.10 No.1

The main cause of ulcer is pressure, which starts to develop when the critical body pressure (32mmHg) is exceeded, and when the critical time elapses, ulcer occurs. In this study, the keyboard mechanism of the medical bed with 4 bar links was adopted, and each key can be controlled vertically. A key has one servo drive and one sensor controller which has several body pressure sensors. The sensor controllers and the servo drives are connected to the main controller by two CAN (Car Are Network) in series, respectively. By reading the maximum body pressure value of each keyboard sensor, and by calculating the error value based on the critical body pressure, the fuzzy controller moves each key so that the total error becomes zero. If the fuzzy controller fails, then it prevents ulcer by lifting and lowering the keys of the bed alternatively within a short time. Thus, the controller operates in two-stage. The validity and effectiveness of the proposed approach have been verified through experiments.

Heliocentric Potential (HCP) Prediction Model for Nowscast of Aviation Radiation Dose

        Junga Hwang,Kyung-Chan Kim,Kyunghwan Dokgo,Enjin Choi,Hang-Pyo Kim 한국우주과학회 2015 Journal of Astronomy and Space Sciences Vol.32 No.1

It is well known that the space radiation dose over the polar route should be carefully considered especially when the space weather shows sudden disturbances such as CME and flares. The National Meteorological Satellite Center (NMSC) and Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) recently established a basis for a space radiation service for the public by developing a space radiation prediction model and heliocentric potential (HCP) prediction model. The HCP value is used as a critical input value of the CARI-6 and CARI-6M programs, which estimate the aviation route dose. The CARI-6/6M is the most widely used and confidential program that is officially provided by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The HCP value is given one month late in the FAA official webpage, making it difficult to obtain real-time information on the aviation route dose. In order to overcome this limitation regarding time delay, we developed a HCP prediction model based on the sunspot number variation. In this paper, we focus on the purpose and process of our HCP prediction model development. Finally, we find the highest correlation coefficient of 0.9 between the monthly sunspot number and the HCP value with an eight month time shift.
