Since many people in Korea know more than one language, bilingual aphasia is an important line of research in clinical and theoretical neurolinguistics. Nowadays we meet many people who speak other languages along with Korean, who are immigrants from foreign countries, especially from China. Differential recovery of language affected by an aphasic deficit is documented. In the present work, we introduced a patient with bilingual aphasia who showed different recovery patterns in Korean and Chinese. A 66-year-old man was presented with language disturbance and right hemiplegia. On past medical history, he had received a hematoma evacuation through burr-hole due to left basal ganglia hemorrhage. After the event, he showed nearly global aphasia in Korean, but he showed minimally preserved language function on comprehension and fluency in Chinese. This result suggests that aphasia in bilingual subject may show different pat-terns of recovery between two languages.
Pseudomonas fluorescens의 Salicylate hydroxylase를 암호하는 유전자의 클로닝

Pseudomonas fluorescens SME11로 부터 salicylate hydroxylase를 암호하는 nahG 유전자를 클로닝하기 위하여 NAH플라스미드를 주형으로 하여 PCR을 수행하였다. PCR방법으로 얻은 1.6kb DNA절편을 pT7Blue(R)벡터에 삽입시켜 재조합 플라스미드 pNY1을 제조하였으며 이것을 E. coli에 형질전환하였다. 재조합 DNA를 제한효소로 처리하여 EcoRⅤ, KpnⅠ, PvuⅡ, StuⅠ등이 존재함을 확인하였으며, 이것으로 간단한 제한효소지도를 작성하였고 재조합 DNA를 한 방향으로 deletion하여, nahG유전자를 포함한 DNA절편의 염기서열을 결정하였다. 재조합 플라스미드인 pNY1에는 1,305bp크기의 open reading frame이 존재하였으며, salicylate hydroxylase에 해당하는 434개의 아미노산을 암호하였다. 아미노산서열을 비교한 결과, P.putida KF715와 84.1%, P.putida PpG7과 71.4%, P.putida S-1 과 48.7%의 homology를 보였으며, 또한 Sphingmonas sp.와 26.8%의 homology를 보였다. Pseudomonas fluorescens SME11 carrying NAH plasmid was isolated from wastewater. To clone nahG gene encoding salicylate hydroxylase, 1.6kb DNA fragment of PCR product from NAH plasmid was inserted to pT7Blue(R) vertor and resulting recombinant DNA was named pNY1. The transformants, E.coli SMY1, clone containing the recombinant plasmid pNY1 were able to convert salicylate to catechol and produced dark brown color caused by accumulation and auto-oxidation of catechol. Restriction endonuclease mapping of 1.6kb size of the insert of the recombinant plasmid pNY1 was carried out with EcoRⅤ, KpnⅠ, PvuⅡ, StuⅠ. By means of unidirectional ExoⅢ deletion and dideoxynucleotide chain termination, we determined the nucleotide sequence of the DNA fragment containing nahG gene. One open reading frame of 1,305 bp corresponding to 434 amino acids was found in the insert DNA. Deduced amino acid sequences of the nahG gene showed 84.1%, 71.4%, 48.7%, and 26.8% homologies to those from P.putida KF715, P. putida PpG7, P. putida S-1, and Sphingmonas sp., respectively.
MCT 대체 마요네즈의 물성적 특성 및 기호도에 관한 연구

The study was carried on the rheological properties and sensory evaluations of mayonnaise substitued by MCT. Nowdays we are consideration of the fat replacer and fat substitutes. It was known that fat and oils had become causes for cardiac disease, obesity and cancer, so the new materials were needed for fat replacer. MCT(medium chain triglyceride) is one of the fat bsed substitutes used as fat replacer. In case of making of mayonnaise substituted by MCT, springiness of mayonnaise prepared with SO substituted by over 20% MCT increased highly, cohesiveness of mayonnaise made of 10-20% MCT substitution was similar to that made without MCT. And hardness, gumminess, and chewiness of mayonnaise prepared with 10-30% MCT substitution were similar or increased more or less to that made with SO only. In the result of color measurement by colorimeter brightness of that made with SO substituted by 10-30% MCT was similar to that made with SO only, redness was almost same without differences significantly in all samples with or without MCT, but yellowness was decreased highly over 10% MCT substitution. By the results of sensory evaluations, appearance, color, and flavor of cakes prepared with CO substituted by MCT until 100% were shown to be better, and taste was better in range of 30% MCT substitution, but texture had lower acceptability than those of cake made without MCT. While in case of mayonnaise, appearance, color, flavor, texture, and taste were obtained worse score, overall acceptance was similar in the range of 10% MCT substitution but was decreased highly upon MCT substitution ratios increase over 20% substitution than that made with SO only. Respecting that the necessity of fat substitute become real situation in dietary in the future, it will be suggested that many foods containing fats and oils will substitute by MCT and another fat replacer.
오디 추출액 첨가비율에 따른 오디편의 품질특성에 관한 연구

Oddi is a mulberry (Morus alba L) fruit which has antiinflammatory and antioxidative effects. This study was carried out to investigate the quality characteristics of Oddi-Pyun which was manufactured with various addition levels (0, 0.5, 1, 2, 4%) of Oddi extract according to the traditional Korean Kwaypun (a kind of jelly) methodology. Oddi-Pyun was made with various levels of Oddi extract, mungbean starch (9%) and sugar (30%). To establish the additional amount of mulberry fruit extract, sensory evaluation and physical test were carried out. From the results of sensory evaluation, the 2% of Oddi-Pyun was judged as the best in terms of color, flavor, hardness and elasticity. According to texture characteristics (hardness, adhesiveness, springiness, gumminess and chewiness), 1.0% and 2.0% of Oddi-Pyun were judged as the best. The contents of Ca (69.50, 74.75, 84.25, 100.60, 183.55ppm), Mg(27.37, 29.38, 34.20, 46.73, 97.45ppm) and Fe (320.23, 572.45, 680.50, 725.95, 906.50ppb) increased with increasing Oddi extract. Therefore, the optimal added amount of extract for the manufacture of Oddi-Pyun was proposed as 2% to the total weight. It was concluded that this Oddi-Pyun would be helpful to improve the health status of rheumatics and patients with similar diseases.

We reviewed literatures on human brain activity on exercise. It was proved that exercise activate brain function through various equipments. Among methods to evaluate brain activation, there are Electroencephalography (EEG), Magnetoencephalography (MEG), transcranial doppler sonography (TCD), Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) methods. There were different characteries in each measurement methods to demonstrate exercise effects. NIRS is a spectroscopic method that uses the near infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum. According to using brain scanning equipments involved NIRS, moderate exercise increased frontal lobe (specially prefrontal cortex) and improves cognitive performance. This review will be discussed about brain activation and cognitive functions.

Background: T.rubrum is most common fungal pathogens that causes tinea pedis and onychomycosis. Due to limitation of current treatment options, alternative therapies are desirable. We investigated inhibitory effect of UVC, terbinafine liquid and Natural Extracted Anti-fungal Material on T. rumbrum in vitro. Objectives: Total 25 plate was cultured for 10 days on mycosel agar plate; 5 strains of T. rubrum and 5 copies for each strain. They are divided into 5 groups for control, UVC irradiation, terbinafine spray, Biocleanact spray(natural extracted anti-fungal material), UVC and Biocleanact spray group. Methods: The cultured media were irradiated for 1 hour daily for 3 weeks in the germicidal lamp emitting 253.7 nm(UVC) and power of 11mW/cm2 at 10cm distance. Terbinafine liquids and Biocleanact was sprayed respectively twice on the surface to fully cover the colony area. We measured the median diameter of each colony every other day for 3 weeks. And analyzed the change of colony diameter and growth rate. Results: The UVC had barely no effect to restrain the growth of T. rubrum, similar with growth of the control group. However, both the terbinafine spray and Biocleanact slowed down the growth rate remarkably and showed similar effect. Conclusion: We could only figure out the fungistatic effect, but not the fungicidal effect in vitro. UVC irradiation settings in this study totally not effective. In the further study, more variable wavelength and fluences of UVC irradiation should be investigated.
