Magnetic Resonance Image Manifestations of the Atypical Meningioma

Through retrospective analysis of 13 cases of magnetic resonance image (MRI) manifestations of atypical meningiomas confirmed by operation and pathology in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinxiang Medical University, the objective of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of MRI in order to improve the accuracy rate of preoperative diagnosis. In this retrospective analysis of MRI findings for atypical meningiomas in First Affiliated Hospital of Xinxiang Medical University from January to July in 2012, the location, morphology and tumor signals and other tumor imaging characteristics were covered. In 13 cases of atypical meningioma patients of this group, most tumors were located at typical sites (10/13), mainly the falx cerebri, parasagittal, convexity, saddle area. Only two cases were at atypical locations, 1 in the cerebellar hemisphere and 1 in a lateral ventricle. Most of the tumors showed T1 and T2 isointensity signals, and necrosis, calcification, and peritumoral edema were always featured. DWI showed isointensity in 11 cases (11/13), and hyperintensity in 2. Some 9 cases had dural tail signs, 12 had accurate positioning (12/13), and 2 were postoperative recurrences. MRI has high value in the diagnosis of atypical meningiomas, with important roles in early clinical diagnosis, treatment and prognosis evaluation.

<P>Fabrication of Co-Pt nanowire arrays with fcc-Co<SUB>3</SUB>Pt phase was accomplished by DC electrodeposition in anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) nanotemplates. The microstructural and magnetic properties of the nanowires were investigated as a function of the deposition current density (Co concentration). The nanowires possess fcc-Co<SUB>3</SUB>Pt phases and are ferromagnetic. Their crystallinity and magnetic performance was enhanced after annealing. (© 2008 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Background/Aims To determine the value of salivary pepsin in discriminating sub-types of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and GERD-related disorders. Methods Overall, 322 patients with different sub-types of GERD and 45 healthy controls (HC) were studied. All patients took Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease Questionnaire (GerdQ) and underwent endoscopy and 24-hour esophageal pH monitoring and manometry. Salivary pepsin concentration (SPC) was detected by using colloidal gold double-antibody immunological sandwich assay. Oral esomeprazole treatment was administrated in the patients with non-erosive reflux disease (NERD) and extra-esophageal symptoms (EES). Results Compared to HC, patients with erosive esophagitis, NERD, EES, EES plus typical GERD symptoms, or Barrett’s esophagus had a higher prevalence of saliva and SPC (all P < 0.001). There was no significant difference in the positive rate for pepsin in patients with functional heartburn or GERD with anxiety and depression, compared to HC. After esomeprazole treatment, the positive rate and SPC were significantly reduced in NERD (both P < 0.001) and in EES (P = 0.001 and P = 0.002, respectively). Of the 64 NERD patients, 71.9% (n = 46) were positive for salivary pepsin, which was significantly higher than the rate (43.8%, n = 28) of pathological acid reflux as detected by 24-hour esophageal pH monitoring (P = 0.002). Conclusions Salivary pepsin has an important significance for the diagnosis of GERD and GERD-related disorders. Salivary pepsin and 24-hour esophageal pH monitoring may complement with each other to improve the diagnostic efficiency.
생육시기에 따른 품종별 양마 잎의 항산화 활성과 플라보노이드 함량의 변화

Background : This study analyzes changes in DPPH radical scavenging activity, total polyphenol contents, and total flavonoid contents of six different kinds of Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) leaves which are identified as herbaceous plants, and are living in the subtropics. The data of changes in polyphenol, flavonoid contents and DPPH radical scavenging activities were analyzed, based on two different lengths of growth period.. Methods and Results : The six different kinds of cultivars ; Jangdae in Korea, and El-1, R, G-1, Ef-1, Ef-2 in the State of Israel were collected on the 43th and 62nd day from when they have planted. The collected cultivars were dried at 70℃, and 80% of methanol concentration was applied to each ground specimen. Extraction was made by immersion and filtering process at room temperature. Samples were classified into two groups, one for cultivars that were collected on the 43th day, and the other for the collection of the 62nd day. We measured the rate of DPPH radical scavenging activity, total polyphenol contents, and total flavonoid contents for every Samples. For the group of the 43th day collection, Jangdae showed the highest rate of radical scavenging activity as well as the highest polyphenol contents, and El-1had the highest flavonoid contents. For the group ofthe 62nd day collection, R demonstrated not only the highest contents of polyphenol and flavonoid, but alsothe highest rate of antioxidant activity. When we compared each cultivar from another regardless its date of collection, R resulted biggest increase in all of functional components. Conclusion : Based on the test results, useful components and antioxidant activity of kenaf leaves increase in proportion to longer growing period. Particularly, the study indicates that R can be utilized as a cosmetic ingredient crop, as the rate of increase in polyphenol and flavonoid contents were highest among the six cultivars.

<P>Au-doped CoPt nanowires were prepared in anodized aluminum oxide (AAO) nanotemplates by electrodeposition and the doping effects on their microstructure and magnetic properties were investigated. Dependent on the deposition conditions, the CoPtAu nanowires can have the cubic or tetragonal phase. The magnetic measurements indicate that the nanowires demonstrate ferromagnetic behavior, showing the easy axis along the direction of the nanowires and strong enhancement in coercivity and squareness prior to annealing, whereas the optical measurements reveal plasmon resonances characteristic of nanostructured Au.</P>

<P>We present the synthesis and magnetic properties of multifunctional CoPtAu alloy nanoparticles of three compositions, Co0.33Pt0.33Au0.33, Co0.2Pt0.2Au0.6, and Co0.4Pt0.4Au0.2, by a modified polyol process. The x-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy analyses confirm the formation of the alloy nanostructure comprising Au-rich and Pt-rich nanophases, with a narrow distribution of particle sizes and provides the detailed structural arrangements. The magnetic study shows the composition dependence of the magnetic properties of the nanoparticles, from superparamagnetic for both Co0.33Pt0.33Au0.33 and Co0.4Pt0.4Au0.2 to soft ferromagnetic for Co0.2Pt0.2Au0.6. Growth and Magnetic Properties of CoPtAu Nanowires

<P>We report the growth of CoPtAu nanowires by electrodeposition in nanoporous anodic aluminum oxide templates. The composition analysis and elemental mapping reveals that the nanowires are composed of Co, Pt and Au, which are homogenously distributed throughout the nanowires. Under the given deposition conditions, the nanowires were dominated by Pt and Au to form a cubic PtAu phase, with the existence of the CoPt tetragonal phase at higher current densities. The nanowires obtained at 3 and 5 mA/cm<SUP>2</SUP> show ferromagnetic behavior and have an easy-axis parallel to the nanowire axis.</P>
