<P>It is widely accepted that solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layer of carbonaceous material is formed by irreversible decomposition reaction of an electrolyte, and acts as a passivation layer to prevent further decomposition of the electrolyte, ensuring reliable operation of a Li-ion battery. On the other hand, recent studies have reported that some transition metal oxide anode materials undergo reversible decomposition of an organic electrolyte during cycling, which is completely different from carbonaceous anode materials. In this work, we revisit the electrochemical reaction of an electrolyte that produces SEI layer on the surface of carbonaceous anode materials using soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy. We discover that the reversible formation and decomposition of SEI layer are also able to occur on the carbonaceous materials in both Li- and Na-ion battery systems. These new findings on the unexpected behavior of SEI in the carbonaceous anode materials revealed by soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy would be highly helpful in more comprehensive understanding of the interfacial chemistry of carbonaceous anode materials in Li- and Na-ion batteries.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

In this study, we describe a novel function of TNNC1 (Troponin C1, Slow Skeletal and Cardiac Type), a component of actin-bound troponin, as a tumor suppressor of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). First, the expression of TNNC1 was strongly down-regulated in cancer tissues compared to matched normal lung tissues, and down-regulation of TNNC1 was shown to be strongly correlated with increased mortality among LUAD patients. Interestingly, TNNC1 expression was enhanced by suppression of KRAS, and ectopic expression of TNNC1 in turn inhibited KRASG12D-mediated anchorage independent growth of NIH3T3 cells. Consistently, activation of KRAS pathway in LUAD patients was shown to be strongly correlated with down-regulation of TNNC1. In addition, ectopic expression of TNNC1 inhibited colony formation of multiple LUAD cell lines and induced DNA damage, cell cycle arrest and ultimately apoptosis. We further examined potential correlations between expression levels of TNNC1 and various clinical parameters and found that low-level expression is significantly associated with invasiveness of the tumor. Indeed, RNA interference-mediated down-regulation of TNNC1 led to significant enhancement of invasiveness in vitro. Collectively, our data indicate that TNNC1 has a novel function as a tumor suppressor and is targeted for down-regulation by KRAS pathway during the carcinogenesis of LUAD.

<P>We developed an electric oil pump (EOP) and a control algorithm for automatic transmission (AT)-based two-shaft parallel hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). The EOP capacity was designed based on AT oil pump test results, and the torque of the EOP motor was determined by considering the flow rate and efficiency calculated according to the operating temperature of the AT fluid. A control algorithm consisting of low, high, and middle speeds according to the HEV driving mode was proposed for the operation of the designed EOP. Control logic was proposed to reduce the EOP energy requirements in the middle-speed range, in which the EOP and AT oil pump operate together. We verified that this control method could reduce electric load while supplying the required hydraulic pressure.</P>

A control strategy of an electric oil pump(EOP) is investigated for a 6-speed AT based parallel HEV. A bench tester of parallel HEV is developed and performance of the AT hydraulic control system is evaluated. Based on the test results, a control algorithm of the EOP is proposed to obtain the demanded line pressure response at specific ATF temperature while satisfying the transient response. The control algorithm is evaluated using AMESim performance simulator. It is found that the EOP control algorithm is able to reduce the EOP energy while satisfying the vehicle performance.

Even though recent ethical scandals have spurred attentions on ethical leadership in business area, researches have neglected applying ethical leadership construct to inter organizational relations. Among many academic issues in inter organizational relations, monitoring activity remains to be unsolved till now. Since the nature of inter-organizational relations works between two independent entities, monitoring activity is inevitably needed to balance information asymmetry and quality control. While two types of monitoring (Outcome monitoring and Behavior moni-toring) activities are considered to be salient, behavior monitoring activity has been known to increase partner firm’s opportunistic behavior. Therefore there exists a chasm between theory and reality. By applying previously unex-plored ethical leadership construct, this research tries to show that ethical leadership construct can moderate the negative effect of monitoring activity on partner firm’s opportunistic behavior. Therefore contributions of this research follow: 1.Applying ‘ethical leadership’, which has been dealt only within single organization, to inter organizational dimension. 2. Proving moderating effect of ethical leadership construct on partner firm’s behavior when monitoring activity is exercised.

Mutations in spliceosome components have been implicated in carcinogenesis of various types of cancer. One of the most frequently found is U2AF1 S34F missense mutation. Functional analyses of this mutation have been largely limited to hematological malignancies although the mutation is also frequently seen in other cancer types including lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). We examined the impact of knockdown (KD) of wild type (wt) U2AF1 and ectopic expression of two splice variant S34F mutant proteins in terms of alternative splicing (AS) pattern and cell cycle progression in A549 lung cancer cells. We demonstrate that induction of distinct AS events and disruption of mitosis at distinct sub-stages result from KD and ectopic expression of the mutant proteins. Importantly, when compared with the splicing pattern seen in LUAD patients with U2AF1 S34F mutation, ectopic expression of S34F mutants but not KD was shown to result in common AS events in several genes involved in cell cycle progression. Our study thus points to an active role of U2AF1 S34F mutant protein in inducing cell cycle dysregulation and mitotic stress. In addition, alternatively spliced genes which we describe here may represent novel potential markers of lung cancer development.
