Magnetic Properties of Bulk Nd50Co10Fe30Al10-xVx Alloys

Hoang Duc Anh,Cao Xuan Huu,Nguyen Chau,Nguyen Hoang Luong 한국물리학회 2008 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.52 No.5

This paper presents the results of study on the structure and the properties of the bulk Nd50Co₁0Fe₃0Al₁0xVx (x = 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10) alloys prepared by arc-melting and suction cast- ing with water cooling. The cast surfaces of the samples are partly crystalline and the amorphous volume fraction increases with distance into cast samples. With increasing V content, the crys- tallization volume fraction increases and for x = 10, the alloy is fully crystallized. In general, the melting temperature increases, but Ms and Hc decrease with V content. The Curie temperature increases clearly from 430 K (x = 0) to 512 K (x = 10). Thermomagnetic measurements of all samples done in low elds indicate the existence of the Hopkinson effect, which shows a coherent rotation magnetization and a strong reduction of the magnetic anisotropy in partly crystallized sam- ples. The eld-cooled (FC) and the zero field-cooled (ZFC) curves measured in low elds reveal an obvious separation from each other at low temperatures, pointing to the existence of a cluster-glass state. The cluster-glass fraction decreases with increasing V content in the samples. Mott Transition in the Asymmetric Hubbard Model at Half-filling: Equation of Motion Approach

Anh-Tuan Hoang,Thi-Thu-Trang Tran,Duc-Anh Le 한국물리학회 2016 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.68 No.2

We investigate the Mott metal-insulator transition in the asymmetric Hubbard model, which may describe the ground states of fermionic atoms trapped in optical lattices. We use the dynamical mean-field theory and the equation of motion approach to calculate the density of states at the Fermi level and the double occupation for various values of the on-site interaction U and the hopping asymmetry r. The critical interaction is also obtained as a function of the hopping asymmetry. Our results are in good agreement with the ones obtained by using the dynamical mean field theory with the exact diagonalization and the quantum Monte Carlo techniques.

      • Potential Impact of Graphic Health Warnings on Cigarette Packages in Reducing Cigarette Demand and Smoking-Related Deaths in Vietnam

Hoang, Van Minh,Le, Hong Chung,Kim, Bao Giang,Duong, Minh Duc,Nguyen, Duc Hinh,Vu, Quynh Mai,Nguyen, Manh Cuong,Pham, Duc Manh,Ha, Anh Duc,Yang, Jui-Chen Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.no.sup1

Two years after implementation of the graphic health warning intervention in Vietnam, it is very important to evaluate the intervention's potential impact. The objective of this paper was to predict effects of graphic health warnings on cigarette packages, particularly in reducing cigarette demand and smoking-associated deaths in Vietnam. In this study, a discrete choice experiment (DCE) method was used to evaluate the potential impact of graphic tobacco health warnings on smoking demand. To predict the impact of GHWs on reducing premature deaths associated with smoking, we constructed different static models. We adapted the method developed by University of Toronto, Canada and found that GHWs had statistically significant impact on reducing cigarette demand (up to 10.1% through images of lung damage), resulting in an overall decrease of smoking prevalence in Vietnam. We also found that between 428,417- 646,098 premature deaths would be prevented as a result of the GHW intervention. The potential impact of the GHW labels on reducing premature smoking-associated deaths in Vietnam were shown to be stronger among lower socio-economic groups.

Spillover Effects of FDI on Technology Innovation of Vietnamese Enterprises

Duc Than HOANG,Anh Duc DO,Mai Van TRINH 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.1

This paper aims to develop a conceptual framework for determinants of spillover effects of FDI on technology innovation of Vietnamese enterprises. The research proposes a logistic regression model for assessing how enterprises’ ability to implement technological innovation is affected by the presence of FDI enterprises as well as other factors that show the change through the indirect influence of FDI such as the size of the enterprise, the type of enterprise, and the skill level of the labor force or its research and development activities. Five forms of technology innovation are considered: improving production process; product quality improvement; product expansion; expanding business activities into a new field of production; and changing business activities into a new field of production. General Statistics Office of Vietnam provided survey data to collect information from 3,166 enterprises in the manufacturing and processing industry in Hanoi, which were valid for analysis. The results show that all variables of enterprise type, size, R&D, and industry have a positive impact on the selection of one of the innovation forms. Several recommendations are further suggested to take advantage of the positive effects and minimizing the negative effects of FDI for technological innovation of Vietnamese enterprises.

An improvement of real-time polymerase chain reaction system based on probe modification is required for accurate detection of African swine fever virus in clinical samples in Vietnam

        Tran Ha Thi Thanh,Dang Anh Kieu,Ly Duc Viet,Vu Hao Thi,Hoang Tuan Van,Nguyen Chinh Thi,Chu Nhu Thi,Nguyen Vinh The,Nguyen Huyen Thi,Truong Anh Duc,Pham Ngoc Thi,Dang Hoang Vu 아세아·태평양축산학회 2020 Animal Bioscience Vol.33 No.10

Objective: The rapid and reliable detection of the African swine fever virus (ASFV) plays an important role in emergency control and preventive measures of ASF. Some methods have been recommended by FAO/OIE to detect ASFV in clinical samples, including real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). However, mismatches in primer and probe binding regions may cause a false-negative result. Here, a slight modification in probe sequence has been conducted to improve the qualification of real-time PCR based on World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) protocol for accurate detection of ASFV in field samples in Vietnam. Methods: Seven positive confirmed samples (four samples have no mismatch, and three samples contained one mutation in probe binding sites) were used to establish novel real-time PCR with slightly modified probe (Y = C or T) in comparison with original probe recommended by OIE. Results: Both real-time PCRs using the OIE-recommended probe and novel modified probe can detect ASFV in clinical samples without mismatch in probe binding site. A high correlation of cycle quantification (Cq) values was observed in which Cq values obtained from both probes arranged from 22 to 25, suggesting that modified probe sequence does not impede the qualification of real-time PCR to detect ASFV in clinical samples. However, the samples with one mutation in probe binding sites were ASFV negative with OIE recommended probe but positive with our modified probe (Cq value ranked between 33.12-35.78). Conclusion: We demonstrated for the first time that a mismatch in probe binding regions caused a false negative result by OIE recommended real-time PCR, and a slightly modified probe is required to enhance the sensitivity and obtain an ASF accurate diagnosis in field samples in Vietnam.

Chicken novel leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor subfamilies B1 and B3 are transcriptional regulators of major histocompatibility complex class I genes and signaling pathways

        Anh Duc Truong,홍여진,이장근,이경백,Ha Thi Thanh Tran,Hoang Vu Dang,Viet Khong Nguyen,Hyun S. Lillehoj,홍영호 아세아·태평양축산학회 2019 Animal Bioscience Vol.32 No.5

Objective: The inhibitory leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptors (LILRBs) play an important role in innate immunity. The present study represents the first description of the cloning and structural and functional analysis of LILRB1 and LILRB3 isolated from two genetically disparate chicken lines. Methods: Chicken LILRB1-3 genes were identified by bioinformatics approach. Expression studies were performed by transfection, quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Signal transduction was analyzed by western blots, immunoprecipitation and flow cytometric. Cytokine levels were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results: Amino acid homology and phylogenetic analyses showed that the homologies of LILRB1 and LILRB3 in the chicken line 6.3 to those proteins in the chicken line 7.2 ranged between 97%-99%, while homologies between chicken and mammal proteins ranged between 13%-19%, and 13%-69%, respectively. Our findings indicate that LILRB1 and LILRB3 subdivided into two groups based on the immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motifs (ITIM) present in the transmembrane domain. Chicken line 6.3 has two ITIM motifs of the sequence LxYxxL and SxYxxV while line 7.2 has two ITIM motifs of the sequences LxYxxL and LxYxxV. These motifs bind to SHP-2 (protein tyrosine phosphatase, non-receptor type 11) that plays a regulatory role in immune functions. Moreover, our data indicate that LILRB1 and LILRB3 associated with and activated major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I and β2-microglobulin and induced the expression of transporters associated with antigen processing, which are essential for MHC class I antigen presentation. This suggests that LILRB1 and LILRB3 are transcriptional regulators, modulating the expression of components in the MHC class I pathway and thereby regulating immune responses. Furthermore, LILRB1 and LILRB3 activated Janus kinase2/tyrosine kinase 2 (JAK2/TYK2); signal transducer and activator of transcription1/3 (STAT1/3), and suppressor of cytokine signaling 1 genes expressed in Macrophage (HD11) cells, which induced Th1, Th2, and Th17 cytokines. Conclusion: These data indicate that LILRB1 and LILRB3 are innate immune receptors associated with SHP-2, MHC class I, β2-microglobulin, and they activate the Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription signaling pathway. Thus, our study provides novel insights into the regulation of immunity and immunopathology.

      • Tobacco Control Policies in Vietnam: Review on MPOWER Implementation Progress and Challenges

Hoang, Van Minh,Tran, Thu Ngan,Vu, Quynh Mai,Nguyen, Thi Tuyet My,Le, Hong Chung,Vu, Duy Kien,Tran, Tuan Anh,Nguyen, Bao Ngoc,Vu, Van Giap,Nguyen, Manh Cuong,Pham, Duc Manh,Kim, Bao Giang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.no.sup1

In Vietnam, the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) took effect in March 2005 while MPOWER has been implemented since 2008. This paper describes the progress and challenges of implementation of the MPOWER package in Vietnam. We can report that, in term of monitoring, Vietnam is very active in the Global Tobacco Surveillance System, completing two rounds of the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) and three rounds of the Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS). To protect people from tobacco smoke, Vietnam has issued and enforced a law requiring comprehensive smoking bans at workplaces and public places since 2013. Tobacco advertising and promotion are also prohibited with the exception of points of sale displays of tobacco products. Violations come in the form of promotion girls, corporate social responsibility activities from tobacco manufacturers and packages displayed by retail vendors. Vietnam is one of the 77 countries that require pictorial health warnings to be printed on cigarette packages to warn about the danger of tobacco and the warnings have been implemented effectively. Cigarette tax is 70% of factory price which is equal to less than 45% of retail price and much lower than the recommendation of WHO. However, Vietnam is one of the very few countries that require manufacturers and importers to make "compulsory contributions" at 1-2% of the factory price of cigarettes sold in Vietnam for the establishment of a Tobacco Control Fund (TCF). The TCF is being operated well. In 2015, 67 units of 63 provinces/cities, 22 ministries and political-social organizations and 6 hospitals received funding from TCF to implement a wide range of tobacco control activities. Cessation services have been starting with a a toll-free quit-line but need to be further strengthened. In conclusion, Vietnam has constantly put efforts into the tobacco control field with high commitment from the government, scientists and activists. Though several remarkable achievements have been gained, many challenges remain. To overcome those challenges, implementation strategies that take into account the contextual factors and social determinants of tobacco use in Vietnam are needed.

Molecular cloning of chicken interleukin-17B, which induces proinflammatory cytokines through activation of the NF-κB signaling pathway

Hoang, Cong Thanh,Hong, Yeojin,Truong, Anh Duc,Lee, Janggeun,Lee, Kyungbaek,Hong, Yeong Ho PERGAMON 2017 DEVELOPMENTAL AND COMPARATIVE IMMUNOLOGY Vol. No.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Interleukin (IL)-17B is a little known member of the IL-17 cytokine family, which plays an important role in immunity by regulating the expression of proinflammatory cytokines. In this study, we determined the coding sequence and biological functions of a novel chicken IL-17B (chIL-17B). The full-length chIL-17B coding sequence includes 567 nucleotides encoding 188 amino acids, which was identified in small intestinal epithelial cells. The chIL-17B protein shares 96.48% amino acid sequence identity with turkey, 92.57% with duck, and 44.92–64.06% with mammalian IL-17B proteins. ChIL-17B shares three exons and two introns with mammals, turkey, and duck. Moreover, IL-17B mRNA was more highly expressed than IL-17A mRNA in several organs of chickens infected with <I>Salmonella</I> and was upregulated in chicken cell lines following LPS stimulation. In addition, in chicken cell lines, chIL-17B induced the mRNA expression of several proinflammatory cytokines, including IL-1β, IL-6, LITAF, and INF-γ, but not IL-17A, and activated MyD88, TAK1, NF-κB1, and SOCS1, which are associated with the NF-κB signaling pathway. Taken together, chicken interleukin-17B plays a critical role in host defense against the bacterial pathogens, and regulates proinflammatory cytokines by activating the NF-κB signaling pathway.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> A novel chicken interleukin-17B (chIL-17B) was cloned. </LI> <LI> Chicken IL-17B expression was upregulated in response to bacterial infection. </LI> <LI> Chicken IL-17B functions through the NF-κB signaling pathway. </LI> <LI> ChIL-17B overexpression activates proinflammatory cytokines in HD11, OU2, and CU91 cells. </LI> </UL> </P>
