        Degrees of Freedom of 3-user MIMO Interference Channels with Instantaneous Relay Using Interference Alignment

        Instantaneous relay (relay-without-delay) using interference alignment is a promising approach to neutralizing interference and improving system capacity. In Wang Chenwei`s work, a 2-user scenario required both source and relay to access the global channel state information (CSI). This paper shows a new method of interference alignment improves the degrees of freedom (DoF) prominently for the 3-user MIMO interference channel with instantaneous relay. This new method is focused on the relay node that completes the alignment interference neutralization so the global CSI is obtained only once and the pressure on the base station can be mitigated. In addition, the 3-user MIMO interference channels with instantaneous relay can achieve 2M DoF when source and destination have M antennas, respectively. This method shows 33% improvement over the conventional method using interference alignment which obtains 3M/2 DoF.

      • Quantitative Proteomic Analysis Reveals Up-Regulation of Type I Collagen During Tumorigenesis of Colorectal Cancer

        Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most prevalent cancers in the world with high mortality and morbidity rates. In this study, we have performed comparative proteomic profiling of sera from CRC patients at stage I (n=17), stage II (n=40), stage III (n=24) and healthy subjects (n=25) to gain a global view of protein expression change during CRC tumorigenesis and provide potential targets for CRC diagnosis and treatment. As a result, a total of 93 proteins were found differentially expressed in CRC patients with a label-free quantitative APXE method. After GO and KEGG pathway analysis, those proteins most frequently involved in ECM-receptor interaction, complement and coagulation cascades. As important as components of ECM, we found several collagens in CRC serum had been changed from tumor stage I to IV. And the validation of collagen I (COL1) at RNA and protein expression level shown extremely comparable to pooled serum proteomic results using independent 26 paired tumor and matched normal colorectal tissues. Those findings indicated that the change of collagen I observed in serum were indeed from pathogenic lesion of colorectal tissue. Moreover, we further investigated serum levels of COL1, PICP (the synthesis indicator) and CTx (the breakdown indicator) in 77 CRC patients and 33 normal controls by ELISA. The results showed PICP and CTx were better for discriminating normal from cancer groups as well as non-metastatic from metastatic tumor than COL1. Finally, we evaluated the expression of MMPs in paired tumor and normal tissues from patients with different stages. Notably, the expression of MMP1, 7 and 14 were remarkably enhanced in carcinoma tissues and the trend were parallel with the progression of tumor stage. The expression of E-cadherin and CDX2, which had been considered as targets of COL1 in cell models, were also verified in tissues and displayed decrease in tumor. Overall, COL1 might be affected by MMP1, 7, 14 and had effects on cell adhesion and differentiation through E-cadherin and CDX2.

        Structural Evolution of Sub-10 nm Octahedral Platinum–Nickel Bimetallic Nanocrystals

        <P>Octahedral Pt alloy nanocrystals (NCs) have shown excellent activities as electrocatalysts toward oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). As the activity and stability of NCs are highly dependent on their structure and the elemental distribution, it is of great importance to understand the formation mechanism of octahedral NCs and to rationally synthesize shape-controlled alloy catalysts with optimized ORR activity and stability. However, the factors controlling the structural and compositional evolution during the synthesis have not been well understood yet. Here, we systematically investigated the structure and composition evolution pathways of Pt-Ni octahedra synthesized with the assistance of W(CO)(6) and revealed a unique core-shell structure, consisting of a Pt core and a Pt-Ni alloy shell. Below 140 degrees C, sphere-like pure Pt NCs with the diameter of 3-4 nm first nucleated, followed by the isotropic growth of Pt-Ni alloy on the seeds at temperatures between 170 and 230 degrees C forming Pt@Pt-Ni core-shell octahedra with {111} facets. Owing to its unique structure, the Pt@Pt-Ni octahedra show an unparalleled stability during potential cycling, that is, no activity drop after 10 000 cycles between 0.6 and 1.0 V. This work proposes the Pt@Pt-Ni octahedra as a high profile electrocatalyst for ORR and reveals the structural and composition evolution pathways of Pt-based bimetallic NCs.</P>
