The objective of the current study was to investigate the effects of stocking density (SD) and dietary supplementation of vitamin C on growth performance, meat quality, intestinal permeability, and stress indicators in broiler chickens. The study was conducted using a completely randomized design with a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement consisting of 2 different SD and 2 supplemental levels of dietary vitamin C. A total of 1,368 Ross 308 broiler chickens of 21 days of age with similar body weights (BW) were randomly allotted to 1 of 4 treatments with 6 replicates each. Different numbers of birds per identical floor pen (2.0 m × 2.4 m) were used to create 2 different SD levels of low SD (9 birds/㎡) and high SD (18 birds/㎡). The basal diet was formulated with no supplemental vitamin C to meet or exceed nutrient recommendations of the Ross 308 manual. The other diet was prepared by supplementing 200 mg/kg vitamin C in the basal diet. The study lasted for 14 days. At the end of the study, 3 male birds per replicate were selected to analyze meat quality, intestinal permeability, and stress indicators such as blood heterophil:lymphocyte (H:L) and feather corticosterone (CORT) concentrations. Results indicated that there were no interactions between different SD and dietary supplementation of vitamin C for all measurements. For the main effects of SD, birds raised at high SD had less (p < 0.01) BW, BW gain, and feed intake with increasing stress responses including greater blood H:L and feather CORT concentrations (p < 0.01) than those raised at low SD. Transepithelial electrical resistance in the jejunal mucosa was decreased (p < 0.05) at high SD, indicating an increase in intestinal permeability. However, the main effects of dietary supplementation of 200 mg/kg vitamin C were insignificant for all measurements. In conclusion, high SD of broiler chickens impairs growth performance and intestinal barrier function with increasing stress responses. However, dietary supplementation of vitamin C may have little beneficial effects on broiler chickens raised at the high SD condition used in the present study.

<P> The goal of this study was to evaluate the anticancer effect of Prunus salicina Lindl. cv. Soldam at three maturity stages (immature, midmature and mature stages). Previous studies have shown that this fruit (plums) possesses hematopoiesis effects, prevents osteoporosis and has anti-mutagenic effects. An acetone extract of immature P. salicina Lindl. cv. Soldam fruit contained higher levels of total phenolics and condensed tannins than midmature and mature plums. The results showed that an acetone extract of immature plums possesses cytotoxic effects, which are related to the activity of the total polyphenols in the fruits. Apoptosis in MDA-MB-231 cells mediated by the immature plums was associated with an increase in Bax levels and a reduction in Bcl-2 levels and the cleavage of caspase 3, caspase 7, caspase 9 and poly-(ADP-ribose) polymerase. These results indicate that immature fruit of P. salicina Lindl. cv. Soldam can be regarded as a safe and promising new dietary source for decreasing the risk of developing breast cancer.</P>
Identification of mTOR inhibitor-resistant genes in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma

<P><B>Purpose</B></P><P>The PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway is frequently activated in various squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs). Although mTOR inhibitors are suggested as effective treatments in immunosuppressed patients with metastatic SCC, they are still not proven to be favorable in treating skin SCC patients not undergoing immunosuppressive therapy. Moreover, the exact mechanism of the mTOR signaling pathway in SCC has not yet been identified. In this study, we aimed to determine the genes associated with mTOR inhibitors in skin SCC.</P><P><B>Materials and methods</B></P><P>The identification of cell viability according to concentration of everolimus and Western blot was done. To analyze the global gene expression profiles, A431 and HSC-1 cells were treated with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) or 100 nM of everolimus for 72 hours. Furthermore, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified using Affymetrix analysis. To identify the gene network associated with everolimus resistance in SCC cells, pathway analysis was performed using the Ingenuity Pathway Analysis (IPA) tool.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>The effects of cell death with respect to the mTOR inhibitor concentration were observed in the HSC-1 cell line; however, the mTOR inhibitor did not show effective cytotoxic activity in the A431 cell line. p-mTOR concentration also diminished with respect to everolimus concentrations in the HSC-1 cell line. Moreover, the microarray results showed that the <I>MYC/CCND1/TP73/NUPR1/SBD/ERBB2/CDKN2B</I> genes were related to mTOR inhibitor resistance. However, CCND1 gene overexpression was most closely related to mTOR inhibitor resistance.</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>We identified mTOR inhibitor resistance genes, and our findings may help select therapeutic targets in skin SCC.</P>
일식과 월식에 대한 교과서와 상위·하위집단 학생의 언어네트워크 비교

본 연구는 일식과 월식에 대한 교과서와 상위집단, 하위집단 학생의 개념구조를 언어네트워크로 비교하여 어떠한 차이가 있는지 알아보는 것에 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 2015 개정 교육과정에 따라 일식과 월식에 대해 다루고 있는 중학교 2학년 교과서 5종과 집단별 학생 8명을 대상으로 분석하였다. 교과서와 상위집단, 하위집단 모두 달, 태양, 지구가 네트워크 중심에 위치하는 공통적 특성을 보였으며 특히 달의 빈도수와 연결정도가 높게 나타났다. 단, 집단별 언어네트워크에서는 그림자, 본그림자와 반그림자를 식 현상과 관련 짓는 데 다소 차이가 있었다. 교과서와 집단별 용어에 대해 위세중심성을 분석한 결과 교과서는 빛과 그림자 용어에 대해 낮은 위세를 갖는 반면, 학생들은 이에 대해 높은 위세중심성을 나타냈다. 또한 천체의 위치와 배열에 관한 용어에 대해 교과서와 하위집단은 낮은 위세를 보였으나, 상위 집단에서만 높은 위세중심성을 나타냈다. 교사는 이러한 차이를 고려하여 식 현상에 대한 학생들의 개념형성을 조력할 수 있다는 것에 의미가 있다. The purpose of this study is to compare textbooks on solar eclipse and lunar eclipse with the conceptual structure of students in upper and lower groups by using semantic networks to find out what differences are there. For this, based on the 2015 science curriculum, 5 textbooks for 2nd grade middle school students dealing with solar and lunar eclipses were targeted, and 8 students per group were analyzed. The textbooks, the higher group, and the lower group all showed common characteristics in that the moon, sun, and earth were located at the center of the network, and the frequency and degree of connection of the moon were particularly high. However, in the concept networks of each group, there were some differences in relating shadows, umbra and penumbra to the eclipse. As a result of analyzing textbooks and concepts of each group, textbooks have a low influence on the concepts of light and shadow, while students have a high influence on them. In addition, textbooks and lower group showed low eigenvector centrality for the concept of the location and arrangement of celestial bodies, but only the higher group showed high eigenvector centrality. It is meaningful that teachers can help students form concepts about eclipse considering these following differences.
마이크로 지오메트리 방법을 이용한 크로스 드릴링/밀링 유닛 구동기어의 동력전달 최적화에 관한 연구

A cross drilling/milling Unit is an important mechanical part which is widely used in many kinds of machining tool, and various gear trains with good accuracy and reliability features are widely used in power transmission systems. A study on a novel power transmission optimization method for driving gear trains in cross drilling/milling units is presented in this paper. A commercial program for gear system simulation, Romax Designer, was used in this research to intuitively observe the gear meshing and the load distribution conditions on the gear teeth. We obtained the optimal modification value through comparing the results of repeated experiments. For validation, optimized gears were fabricated and then measured with a precision tester.
