The rs196952262 Polymorphism of the AGPAT5 Gene is Associated with Meat Quality in Berkshire Pigs

High-quality meat is of great economic importance to the pig industry. The 1-acylglycerol-3- phosphate-O-acyltransferase 5 (AGPAT5) enzyme converts lysophosphatidic acid to phosphatidic acid in the mitochondrial membrane. In this study, we found that the porcine AGPAT5 gene was highly expressed in muscle tissue, influencing meat characteristics, and we also identified a non-synonymous single-nucleotide polymorphism (nsSNP) (rs196952262, c.673 A>G) in the gene, associated with a change of isoleucine 225 to valine. The presence of this nsSNP was significantly associated with meat color (lightness), lower cooking loss, and lower carcass temperatures 1, 4, and 12 h after slaughter (items T1, T4, and T12 on the recognized quality scale, respectively), and tended to increase backfat thickness and the waterholding capacity. These results suggest that nsSNP (c.673A>G) of the AGPAT5 gene is a potential genetic marker of high meat quality in pigs.

This study conducts the questionnaire with 320 employees who work in the construction field and head office of 80 construction companies which acquired ISO 9000 quality systems with a view to complement the problems from the application of ISO quality system to the construction industry. Acquirement of ISO certificate with the formal quality system or its formal post management adds to unnecessary tasks and will be a cause to deteriorate the progression of key projects on the business management. Therefore, when ISO 9000 quality systems is made in consideration of the scale, business capacity and customers' requirements and are suitable to the actual affairs and systematized system is established, execution quality will be improved and it will result in the decisive effects for construction field control.

Histone deacetylase-3 (HDAC3) is involved in cellular proliferation, apoptosis and transcriptional repression. However, the role of HDAC3 in angiogenesis remains unknown. HDAC3 negatively regulated the expression of angiogenic factors, such as VEGF and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1). HDAC3 showed binding to promoter sequences of PAI-1. HDAC3 activity was necessary for the expression regulation of PAI-1 by HDAC3. VEGF decreased the expression of HDAC3, and the down-regulation of HDAC3 enhanced endothelial cell tube formation. HDAC3 negatively regulated tumor-induced angiogenic potential. We show the novel role of HDAC3 as a negative regulator of angiogenesis. [BMB Reports 2014; 47(4): 227-232]
