Best One-Sided L1-Approximation in C(X)
Ahn, Jong Sik,Lee, Joung Nam 서울産業大學校 2000 논문집 Vol.51 No.1
We concerned ourselves with various aspects of the basic problem of best L1-approximation from a finite-dimensional subspace. In this paper, we consider the characterizations and uniqueness of a one-sided best approximation for the Banach space C(X) of all real valued continuous functions on a compact Hausdorff space X. Now suppose that F= (f1, …, fl) in C(X) are given and S is an n-dimensional subspace of C(X). We study the problem of approximating these functions by elements in set ◀그림삽입▶(원문을 참조 하세요) in the sense of the minimization of the norm in ∥F∥=∥(f1, …, fl)∥ = max ?? where A={a=(a1, …, al)|??, ai≥0, i=1, …, l}.

In this note we consider abstract M spaces and investigate some properties of bounded linear functionals on σ-complete abstract M spaces.

Purpose: This study was to develop and to evaluate a health promotion program elderly. Method: This study was a quasi-experimental research. The participants were 62 elderly(experimental group:31, control group:31). Data were collected between September 10 and November 5, 2005. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Independent t-test and ANCOVA. Result: 1. In designing the program, experimental group was given recreation program and pilates excercise 2 time a week, for 8 week. 2. Pilates excercise including recreation, significantly affected the BP, life satisfaction and depression. 3. Total cholesterol and blood sugar was not significantly affected by the pilates excercise. Conclusion: The Program was tested to promote the health of elderly and verified as an effective nursing intervention program, because the outcome of this program as certain that this program enhances life satisfaction, reduces depression and BP. Therefore this program is verified as a suitable exercise for the old people. The reason why firstly, there are no restricts of time and space. secondly, anyone can easily follow this as far as he can thirdly, this program is a soft and warm exercise.

P-gp (P-glycoprotein) is a member of the ATP binding cassette (ABC) family of transporters. It transports many kinds of anticancer drugs out of the cell. It plays a major role as a cause of multidrug resistance (MDR). MDR function may be a cause of the failure of chemotherapy in cancer and influence pharmacokinetic properties of many drugs. Hence classification of candidate drugs as substrates or nonsubstrate of the P-gp is important in drug development. Therefore to identify whether a compound is a P-gp substrate or not, in silico method is promising. Recursive Partitioning (RP) method was explored for prediction of P-gp substrate. A set of 261 compounds, including 146 substrates and 115 nonsubstrates of P-gp, was used to training and validation. Using molecular descriptors that we can interpret their own meaning, we have established two models for prediction of P-gp substrates. In the first model, we chose only 6 descriptors which have simple physical meaning. In the training set, the overall predictability of our model is 78.95%. In case of test set, overall predictability is 69.23%. Second model with 2D and 3D descriptors shows a little better predictability (overall predictability of training set is 79.29%, test set is 79.37%), the second model with 2D and 3D descriptors shows better discriminating power than first model with only 2D descriptors. This approach will be used to reduce the number of compounds required to be run in the P-gp efflux assay.

Background/Aims: Somatostatin and its long acting analogue octreotide have been proposed for the treatment of patients with acute pancreatitis. But neither agents has been adequately assessed in patient with severe attacks, Retrospective study was carried out to assess the effect of octreotide in the treatment of patients with severe acute pancreatitis. The patients had been admitted between January, 1991 and August, 1996. Methods: Twenty two patients with severe acute pancreatitis were examined. We compared the differences in complication rate, mortality, mean hospital day between the conservative treatment group (nine patients) and the octreotide-treatment group (thirteen patients). For the octreotide treated group, octreotide 0.1 mg were injected subcutaneously every twelve haurs for average eleven days (11.38±7.43). Results: Complications occurred in 46% (6/13) of the octreotide-treatment group and 56% (5/9) of the control group. There was no significant difference in the incidence of complication (P=0.66). Mean hospital day of the octreotid.e-treatment group was 23±8.3 days and that of the control group was 15±10.8 days. However, these results were not statistically significant (P=0.09), There was one death due to sepsis in octreotide-treatment group. Conclusions: Octreotide was not effective in the treatment of severe acute pancreatitis.
Stimulatory Effects of Ginsenosides on Bovine Brain Glutamate Decarboxylase
Baek, Nam In,Choi, Soo Young,Park, Jin Kyu,Cho, Sung Woo,Hong, Joung Woo,Ahn, Jee Yin,Bahn, Jae Hoon,Jeon, Seong Gyu,Chung, Young Mee,Hwang, Eun Joo 생화학분자생물학회 1999 BMB Reports Vol.31 No.3
A GABA synthesizing enzyme, glutamate decarboxylase, has been purified from bovine brain by several chromatographic procedures. The preparation appeared homogeneous on SDS-PAGE. The enzyme is a homodimeric protein with a molecular mass of 120 kDa. The activation of glutamate decarboxylase by ginesenosides from Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer has been studied. Preincubation of the enzyme with total ginsenoside, Rb₂ and Rc ginsenosides, increased glutamate decarboxylase activities in a dose-dependent manner. There was a reproducible decrease in K_m, in addition to a increase in V_(max), in response to increasing concentrations of the Rc ginsenoside fraction. Upon addition of the ginsenoside to the enzyme, a decrease in flurorescence intensity was discernible, together with an increase in emission anisotropy. Judging from the anisotropy values, the ginsenoside is rapidly trapped by the protein matrix. Total ginsenoside was administered to rats and the rat brains were removed for the measurement of the changes of GABA shunt regulating enzyme activities. Among the GABA shunt regulating enzymes, only the glutamate decarboxylase activities were increased after ginsenoside treatment. Therefore, it is suggested that the ginsenosides may elevate the GABA level in brain by activation of glutamate decarboxylase and the enzymatic activation might be due to the conformational change induced by binding of ginsenoside to the enzyme.
