        Development of a stable and efficient zein based nanopesticides through green and simple way for improving utilization efficiency

        Nanopesticides represent one of the effective ways of reducing the use of pesticides and the environmental pollution. Natural zein as a potential carrier for nanoencapsulation of pesticides has the disadvantages of large amount of organic solvents and poor dispersibility. In this study, a water soluble of zein peptides was obtained by hydrolyzed under alkaline conditions with heated and stability of nanopesticides were prepared through crosslinked after self-assemble. As the results, the zein peptides spontaneously assembled into spherical particles in an aqueous solution, the nanopesticides (avermectin, AVM), with uniform size distribution and size can be adjusted by the glutaraldehyde, have a great stability, and redispersed in water after freeze-drying. Moreover, nanoencapsulation protects avermectin from UV light, with 24% of the encapsulated AVM remaining intact after exposure to UV for 60 min, compared to less than 6% for the bare AVM. In addition, the nanoformulation had similar insecticidal activity to commercial EC and the cross-linking of particles slowed down the release rate and the curves were consistent with Higuchi model different from the abnormal diffusion in the uncross linked state. In short, this study provides a simple method to obtain stabilizable nanopesticides based on natural polymer on a green way.

        Procoagulant Substance and Mechanism of Myristica fragrans

        The effect and mechanisms of Myristica fragrans on blood clotting were evaluated by evaluating blood coagulation time and the fibrinolytic system. The compounds 2 and 5 were isolated from the herbal extract and their activities were assessed for the first time. None of the tested compounds had fibrinolytic activity, but could inhibit the fibrinolytic activity of urokinase. Compound 2 showed the highest inhibitory activity (IC50 = 1.747 mg·mL-1) followed by compounds 4 (IC50 = 1.818 mg·mL-1) and 1 (IC50 = 2.407 mg·mL-1), which were higher than that of the compound in Danshen drug tablets (IC50 = 6.577 mg·mL-1) used in China. Moreover, compounds 1 and 2 showed strong a-glucosidase inhibitory activity in a dose-dependent manner with IC50 values 21.76 ± 0.59 and 21.31 ± 0.00 μg·mL-1, respectively. These results demonstrated that the compounds are promising candidates as procoagulant and antidiabetic agents.

        Phosphorus Deficiency Restricts Plant Growth but Induces Pigment Formation in the Flower Stalk of Chinese Kale

        The effect of phosphorus (P) nutrition on plant growth and pigment formation in the flower stalk was studied under hydroponic conditions for 2 Chinese kale (Brassica alboglabra Bailey) cultivars: ‘Jianyexia’ (green flower stalk)and ‘Hongjiao’ (mauve flower stalk). Three different P treatments were used: 30 (normal-P), 7.5 (low-P), and 0 mg·L-1(P-deficient). The results showed that the biomass, yield, plant height, stem diameter, and leaf number of Chinese kale were significantly reduced in the low-P and P-deficient treatments compared to the normal-P treatment. The chlorophyll content in the flower stalk epidermis was not affected by different P levels in ‘Jianyexia’, but was significantly reduced by the P-deficient treatment in ‘Hongjiao’. Decreased P levels caused the flavonoid, soluble phenol, and anthocyanin content of the flower stalks to gradually increase in both Chinese kale cultivars. The pH value of the flower stalk epidermis gradually decreased with the declining P levels, and was significantly different among the 3treatments. As the P levels declined, phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) and chalcone isomerase (CHI) activities in the flower stalk epidermis gradually increased, and were significantly different among the 3 treatments. P nutrition may control the synthesis of anthocyanins in the flower stalk by regulating the epidermal pH value, and the activities of PAL and CHI.

        Prognostic Value of the Evolution of HER2-Low Expression after Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy

        Purpose Patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)–low advanced breast cancer can benefit from trastuzumab deruxtecan. Given the unclear prognostic characteristics of HER2-low breast cancer, we investigated the prognostic characteristics of HER2-low expression from primary tumor to residual disease after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT). Materials and Methods The data of HER2-negative patients receiving NACT at our center were collected. Pathological complete response (pCR) rate were compared between HER2-0 and HER2-low patients. The evolution of HER2 expression from primary tumor to residual disease and its impact on disease-free survival (DFS) were examined. Results Of the 690 patients, 494 patients had HER2-low status, of which 72.3% were hormone receptor (HR)–positive (p < 0.001). The pCR rates of HER2-low and HER2-0 patients (14.2% vs. 23.0%) showed no difference in multivariate analysis regardless of HR status. No association was observed between DFS and HER2 status. Of the 564 non-pCR patients, 57 (10.1%) changed to HER2-positive, and 64 of the 150 patients (42.7%) with HER2-0 tumors changed to HER2-low. HER2-low (p=0.004) and HR-positive (p=0.010) tumors before NACT were prone to HER2 gain. HER2 gain patients had a better DFS compared with HER2-negative maintained patients (87.9% vs. 79.5%, p=0.048), and the DFS of targeted therapy group was better than that of no targeted therapy group (92.4% vs. 66.7%, p=0.016). Conclusion Although HER2-low did not affect the pCR rate and DFS, significant evolution of HER2-low expression after NACT creates opportunities for targeted therapy including trastuzumab.
