      • ANTECEDENTS, MANIFESTATIONS, AND OUTCOMES OF CORPORATE ACTIVISM: A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW

        Selma Saracevic,Bodo B. Schlegelmilch 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2023 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2023 No.07

Following the Antecedents, Methods, and Outcomes (AMO) framework, this paper contributes to a better understanding of corporate activism (CA) in an international context. Through an in-depth review of publications over the past 33 years, we aim to shed light on the rising trend of CA and identify its most important antecedents, manifestations, and the short-term and long-term consequences of CA. In this context, we focus particularly on cross-country differences. Guided by the scientific Procedures and Rationales for a Systematic Literature Reviews Protocol (SPAR-4-SLR), this paper offers a framework-based systematic literature review on CA. We observe that the topic of CA is somewhat underexplored in the literature. Moreover, CA is very often misinterpreted, and lines between CA and similar terms, such as Corporate Social Responsibility, CEO activism, and lobbying often remain blurred. Nevertheless, our review identifies a rising trend among companies to express their stance on various controversial issues. Reflecting this trend, we can also witness a substantial increase in the number of studies on CA over the past two years. Through the articles identified in our literature review, we improve the understanding of the common antecedents and manifestations of CA, but also observe a lack of conceptual clarity in many extant contributions on CA. As to the outcome of CA, the literature indicates that the long-term and shortterm consequences of CA also still call for further analysis. The international nature and ramifications of CA, recently highlighted by the considerable CA in response to the war between Russia and Ukraine and its spillover effect worldwide, is neglected in current research. Thus, given the international dimension of some CA there is a particular need to research both, national idiosyncrasies and international consequences of CA.

SOME SUMMABLE SEQUENCE SPACES DEFINED BY THE WEIGHTED MEAN METHOD AND MODULUS FUNCTIONS

SELMA ALTUNDAG,HEMEN DUTTA 장전수학회 2018 Proceedings of the Jangjeon mathematical society Vol.21 No.2

In this paper, we define the concept of [ N⁻λ, pn, f ] ─ summability, and give the relation between [ N⁻λ, pn] ─ summability and [ N⁻λ, pn, f ] ─ summability. We also study some connections between weighted statistically λ ─ convergence (or SN⁻λ ─ convergence) and [N⁻λ, pn, f ] ─ summability.

Epidemiological Features of Human Cases After Bites/Scratches From Rabies-suspected Animals in Zenica-Doboj Canton, Bosnia and Herzegovina

        Selma Uzunović,Muhamed Skomorac,Fatima Bašić,Ivona Mijač-Musić 대한예방의학회 2019 Journal of Preventive Medicine and Public Health Vol.52 No.3

Objectives: To determine the epidemiological features of patients and animals after bites/scratches from rabies-suspected animals in Zenica-Doboj Canton, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Methods: Data from all patients (and the causative animals) admitted to the Antirabies Service of the Institute for Health and Food Safety Zenica in the 2009-2017 period were analyzed, including age, sex, anatomical site of the bite/scratch, animal type (stray/owned/wildlife), veterinary observations of the animal, and whether antirabies post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) was indicated and/or administered. Results: In total, 1716 patients were admitted. Bites/scratches were most frequently recorded during April and May (n=181, 10.5% and n=163, 9.5%, respectively). The persons admitted were mostly from the Zenica municipality (n=1278, 74.5%; incidence: 11.55/ 1000), which is 66.6% urbanized. Males were more frequently represented (n=1089, 63.6%). The patients were mostly 50-64 and 25-49 years of age (n=425, 24.7% and n=390, 22.7%, respectively). Dog bites were the most common cause (n=1634, 95.1%, of which n=1258, 77.0% were caused by stray dogs). PEP was indicated for 997 (58.1%) patients. Only 340 (19.9%) animals underwent veterinary observations (3.1% of stray and 76.1% of owned animals). The largest number of injuries were presented at lower extremities, 1044 (60.8%) cases. Conclusions: Zenica-Doboj Canton is a rabies-free region. Due to the high rate of stray animals not undergoing veterinary observations, the non-existence of a unique dog registry, and the consequent lack of information about stray animals in terms of number, vaccination, neutering, and euthanasia, there is an urgent need for improving the prevention and control of rabies within the One Health framework.

Contrast-enhanced Bias-corrected Distance-regularized Level Set Method Applied to Hippocampus Segmentation

        Selma, Tisa,Madusanka, Nuwan,Kim, Tae-Hyung,Kim, Young-Hoon,Mun, Chi-Woong,Choi, Heung-Kook Korea Multimedia Society 2016 멀티미디어학회논문지 Vol.19 No.8

Recently, the level set has become a popular method in many research fields. The main reason is that it can be modified into many variants. One such case is our proposed method. We describe a contrast-enhancement method to segment the hippocampal region from the background. However, the hippocampus region has quite similar intensities to the neighboring pixel intensities. In addition, to handle the inhomogeneous intensities of the hippocampus, we used a bias correction before hippocampal segmentation. Thus, we developed a contrast-enhanced bias-corrected distance-regularized level set (CBDLS) to segment the hippocampus in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). It shows better performance than the distance-regularized level set evolution (DLS) and bias-corrected distance-regularized level set (BDLS) methods in 33 MRI images of one normal patient. Segmentation after contrast enhancement and bias correction can be done more accurately than segmentation while not using a bias-correction method and without contrast enhancement.

A novel approach for the rigid body guidance synthesis of planar RRPR linkages

        Selma J. Rodríguez-González,Henry A. Suárez-Velásquez,J. Jesús Cervantes-Sánchez,José M. Rico-Martínez 대한기계학회 2020 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.34 No.2

This paper demonstrates that the maximum number of poses that can be exactly reached by a planar RRPR linkage is four, while the design for five poses requires the relaxation of displacement constraints at one prescribed pose. To this end, a novel and explicit condition for the synthesis of RP dyads with five prescribed poses is correspondingly introduced. It leads to a new and efficient approach to synthesize planar RRPR linkages, which is equipped with a branching identification procedure. Two successful case studies are provided to validate the applicability of the proposed synthesis approach.

Schizophrenia-Like Psychosis and Dandy-Walker Variant Comorbidity: Case Report

Selma Bozkurt Zincir,Yig˘ it Kıvılcım, Filiz I˙zci,Umit Basar Semiz 대한신경정신의학회 2014 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.11 No.1

Dandy-Walker variant is a developmental malformation consisting of cerebellar hypoplasia and cystic dilatation of the fourth ventricle. Previous research has proposed a possible role for the cerebellum in cognition and in schizophrenia. In this paper we report a schizophrenia-like psychotic disorder in a 30 year-old woman with Dandy-Walker variant. The patient was treated with risperidone 6 mg/day, biperiden4 mg/day and risperidone depot 50 mg injections fortnightly, and most of the symptoms were ameliorated within 2 months. Thesimilar cognitive profile to populations with cerebellar pathology and rarity of the condition strongly suggests that there may be directrelationship between cerebellar pathology and appearence of psychotic symptoms.

Prediction of Drug–Drug Interactions by Using Profile Fingerprint Vectors and Protein Similarities

Selma Dere,Serkan Ayvaz 대한의료정보학회 2020 Healthcare Informatics Research Vol.26 No.1

Objectives: Drug–drug interaction (DDI) is a vital problem that threatens people’s health. However, the prediction of DDIs through in-vivo experiments is not only extremely costly but also difficult as many serious side effects are hard to detect in in-vivo and in-vitro settings. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of similarity-based in-silico computational DDI prediction approaches and to provide a cost effective and scalable solution to predict potential DDIs. Methods: In this study, widely known similarity-based computational DDI prediction methods were utilized to discover novel potential DDIs. More specifically, known interactions, drug targets, adverse effects, and protein similarities of drug pairs were used to construct drug fingerprints for the prediction of DDIs. Results: Using the drug interaction profile, our approach achieved an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.975 in the prediction of a potential DDI. The drug adverse effect profile and protein profile similarity-based methods resulted in AUC values of 0.685 and 0.895, respectively, in the prediction of DDIs. Conclusions: In this study, we developed a computational approach to the prediction of potential drug interactions. The performance of the similarity-based computational methods was comparatively evaluated using a comprehensive real-world DDI dataset. The evaluations showed that the drug interaction profile information is a better predictor of DDIs compared to drug adverse effects and protein similarities among DDI pairs.

Fuzzy swarm trajectory tracking control of unmanned aerial vehicle

Boumediene Selma,Samira Chouraqui,Hassane Abouaïssa 한국CDE학회 2020 Journal of computational design and engineering Vol.7 No.4

Accurate and precise trajectory tracking is crucial for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to operate in disturbed environments. This paper presents a novel tracking hybrid controller for a quadrotor UAV that combines the robust adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. The ANFIS-PSO controller is implemented to govern the behavior of three degrees of freedom quadrotor UAV. The ANFIS controller allows controlling the movement of UAV to track a given trajectory in a 2D vertical plane. The PSO algorithm provides an automatic adjustment of the ANFIS parameters to reduce tracking error and improve the quality of the controller. The results showed perfect behavior for the control law to control a UAV trajectory tracking task. To show the effectiveness of the intelligent controller, simulation results are given to confirm the advantages of the proposed control method, compared with ANFIS and PID control methods.
