Adhesive systems applied to dentin substrate under electric current; systematic review

        Maciel Carolina Menezes,Souto Tatiane Cristina Vieira,Pinto Bárbara de Almeida,Silva-Concilio Laís Regiane,Baroudi Kusai,Vitti Rafael Pino 대한치과보존학회 2021 Restorative Dentistry & Endodontics Vol.46 No.4

Objectives The purpose of this systematic review was to collect and discuss the technique of adhesive systems application on dentin substrate under electric current. Materials and Methods The first search strategy was based on data available at PubMed, LILACS, Scielo, Scopus, and Cochrane Library, using a combination of descriptors such as “dentin bond agents OR adhesive system AND electric current OR electrobond” or “dentin bonding agents OR dentin bonding agent application OR adhesive system AND electric current OR electrobond”, with no limit regarding the publication year. The second search strategy was based on the articles' references found previously. An additional search strategy was applied that concerned the proposed theme in the SBU-UNICAMP (Unicamp's Library System Institutional Repository). Results Twelve studies published between 2006 and 2020 were found. The analyses of the selected studies showed that the use of electric current during adhesive systems application on dentin, whether conventional or self-conditioning, increases resinous monomer infiltration in the dentin substrate, which improves the hybridization processes and the bond strength of the restorative material to dentin. Conclusions Despite the favorable results related to the use of this technique, there is still no specific protocol for the application of adhesive systems under electric current. Maternal uterine artery Doppler in the first and second trimesters as screening method for hypertensive disorders and adverse perinatal outcomes in low-risk pregnancies

( Rosiane Maciel Scandiuzzi ),( Caio Antonio De Campos Prado ),( Edward Araujo Junior ),( Geraldo Duarte ),( Silvana Maria Quintana ),( Fabricio Da Silva Costa ),( Gabriele Tonni ),( Ricardo De Carval 대한산부인과학회 2016 Obstetrics & Gynecology Science Vol.59 No.5

Objective To assess the maternal demographic characteristics and uterine artery (UA) Doppler parameters at first and second trimesters of pregnancy as predictors for hypertensive disorders (HDs) and adverse perinatal outcomes. Methods This prospective cohort study comprised 162 singleton low-risk women undergoing routine antenatal care. The left and right UA were assessed by color and pulsed Doppler and the mean pulsatility and resistance indices as well as the presence of a bilateral protodiastolic notch were recorded at 11 to 14 and 20 to 24 weeks’ gestation. Multilevel regression analysis was used to determine the effects of maternal characteristics and abnormal UA Doppler parameters on the incidence of HD, small for gestational age newborn, cesarean section rate, Apgar score <7 at 1st and 5th minute, and admission to the neonatal intensive care unit. Results Fifteen women (9.2%) developed HD. UA mean resistance index (RI), UA mean pulsatility index, and parity were independent predictors of HD. Compared to the pregnancies with a normal UA mean RI at the first and second trimesters, pregnancies with UA mean RI >95th percentile only at the first trimester showed an increased risk for HD (odds ratio, 23.25; 95% confidence interval, 3.47 to 155.73; P<0.01). Similar result was found for UA mean pulsatility index >95th percentile (odds ratio, 9.84; 95% confidence interval, 1.05 to 92.10; P=0.05). The model including maternal age, maternal and paternal ethnicity, occupation, parity and UA mean RI increased the relative risk for HD (area under receiver operating characteristics, 0.81). Conclusion A first-trimester screening combining maternal characteristics and UA Doppler parameters is useful to predict HD in a low-risk population.

Study of Some Parameters which Affect Xylanase Production: Strain Selection, Enzyme Extraction Optimization, and Influence of Drying Conditions

Giselle Maria Maciel,Luciana Porto de Souza Vandenberghe,Ricardo Cancio Fendrich,Bianca Eli Della Bianca,Charles Windson Isidoro Haminiuk,Carlos Ricardo Soccol 한국생물공학회 2009 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.14 No.6

Xylanases are glycosidases mainly responsible for the hydrolysis of β-1,4 linkages in xylan. Xylanase was produced in this work by solid-state fermentation using agro industrial residues with Aspergillus niger strain, which was screened through qualitative and quantitative methods. Extraction processes with different solvents were evaluated. Solvent volume, time, and agitation speed (shaker) were optimized using statistical designs. Drying studies of the solid fermented material were also conducted in a laboratory oven where the following conditions were applied: 42oC and 50oC for 20 h and 80oC for 1 h; 50oC and 75oC for 6 and 3 h, respectively. Best extraction conditions were 37 mL of solvent composed by NaCl solution (0.9%) with Tween 80 (0.1%) in 3 g of cultured material with agitation at 133 rpm in shaker for 4 min. Highest xylanase activity was 2,327 IU/gdm. The drying at 42oC for 20 h provided a better maintenance of xylanase activity (58% of xylanase activity). AURKA Gene Variants rs1047972, and rs8173 Are Associated With Breast Cancer

        Eric Jonathan Maciel-Cruz,Luis Eduardo Figuera-Villanueva,Asbiel Felipe Garibaldi-Ríos,Belinda Claudia Gómez-Meda,Guillermo Moisés Zúñiga-González,Ana María Pérez,Paola B Castro-García,Ramiro Ramírez- 한국유방암학회 2023 Journal of breast cancer Vol.26 No.4

Purpose: Association between variants rs1047972 and rs8173 of the AURKA gene in healthy women and breast cancer (BC) in a Mexican population. Methods: Genomic DNA samples from 409 healthy women and 572 patients with BC were analyzed for variants rs1047972 and rs8173 of the AURKA gene by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. Results: TT genotype (odds ratio [OR], 2.5; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.22–5.11; p = 0.0015) and the T allele (OR, 1.16; 95% CI, 1.23–2.12; p = 0.0007) of the rs1047972 variant were associated as risk susceptibility for BC relative to the control group. Contrarily, the GG genotype (OR, 0.64; 95% CI, 0.43–0.94; p = 0.029) was associated as a protective factor of susceptibility of BC of the variant rs8173 of the AURKA gene. Differences were observed in the patients with BC who were carriers of the CT genotype of the rs1047972 variant with overweight, obesity, estrogen receptor-positive plus obesity, Ki-67 (≥ 20%) plus history familial positive of cancer; and for variant rs8173 the BC patients who were CG carriers and presented chemotherapy gastric toxicity, hormonal receptor positive plus chemotherapy gastric toxicity, and menopause status plus chemotherapy gastric toxicity (p < 0.05). Two common haplotypes were identified in the study groups: CG and TC genotypes, were associated as a protective and risk factor, respectively (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Variants rs1047972 and rs8173 of the AURKA gene and the TC haplotype were associated as risk susceptibility factors for BC in this population.

Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. eucalyptorum pv. nov. Causing Bacterial Leaf Blight on Eucalypt in Brazil

Hélvio Gledson Maciel Ferraz,Jorge Luis Badel,Lúcio Mauro da Silva Guimarães,Bruna Paolinelli Reis,Marcos Rogério Tótola,Rivadalve Coelho Gonçalves,Acelino Couto Alfenas 한국식물병리학회 2018 Plant Pathology Journal Vol.34 No.4

Bacterial leaf blight is a major disease of eucalypt, especially under nursery conditions. Different bacterial species have been associated with the disease in several countries, and despite its importance worldwide, it is not clear to date whether similar disease symptoms are caused by the same or by different etiological agents. In this study, 43 bacterial strains were isolated from blighted eucalypt leaves collected in different geographic areas of Brazil and inoculated onto a susceptible eucalypt clone. Polyphasic taxonomy, including morphological, physiological, biochemical, molecular, and pathogenicity tests showed that only certain strains of Xanthomonas axonopodis caused symptoms of the disease. Strains varied in their aggressiveness, but no correlation with geographic origin was observed. MLSA-based phylogenetic analysis using concatenated dnaK, fyuA, gyrB and rpoD gene sequences allocated the strains in a well-defined clade, corresponding to Rademarker’s group RG 9.6. Inoculation of nineteen plant species belonging to seven botanical families with representative strain LPF 602 showed it to be pathogenic only on Eucalyptus spp, and Corymbia spp. Based on distinct biochemical and pathogenic characteristics that differentiate the eucalypt strains from other pathovars of the X. axonopodis species, here we propose their allocation into the new pathovar X. axonopodis pv. eucalyptorum pv. nov.

Influence of polishing systems on roughness and color change of two dental ceramics

Lucas Campagnaro Maciel,Carlos Frederico Bettcher Silva,Ricardo Huver de Jesus,Lais Regiane da Silva Concilio,Stefania Carvalho Kano,Anuar Antonio Xible 대한치과보철학회 2019 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.11 No.4

PURPOSE. To evaluate the polishing effect on roughness and color change of pressed and layering ceramics after immersion in coffee solution. MATERIALS AND METHODS. 88 ceramic discs (1.0 mm × 10.0 mm) were manufactured - 44 nano-fluorapatite layering ceramics (IPS e.max Ceram. Group C) and 44 pressed lithium disilicate ceramic discs (IPS e. max Press - Group P). Each group was divided into 4 subgroups according to surface treatments: (G) Glaze, (S) Shofu polishing system (Shofu Inc.), (E) Edenta AG polishing System, (KG) 30-μm diamond granulation tip. Surface roughness (Ra) and color change (ΔE) measurings after the surface treatments were performed, before and 12 days after the immersion in coffee solution. A samples’ qualitative analysis was conducted with a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Data were statistically-treated with oneway-ANOVA and Duncan’s tests, apart from paired t-test and Pearson’s correlation test (α=5%). RESULTS. The decrescent order, both for surface roughness (Ra) and ΔE for both ceramics were: KG > E > S > G (P<.05). With exception for PG and CG subgroups, which did not present statistical difference between them, all other pressed ceramics subgroups presented smaller Ra values and greater ΔE values than the layering ceramics subgroups (P<.05). CONCLUSION. Although mechanical polishing systems presented intermediate Ra values, their colors were considered clinically acceptable. There is a strong correlation between the surface roughness and the color change of tested ceramics.

The effect of repeated surface treatment of zirconia on its bond strength to resin cement

        Lucas Campagnaro Maciel,Marina Amaral,Daher Antonio Queiroz,Kusai Baroudi,Laís Regiane Silva-Concílio 대한치과보철학회 2020 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.12 No.5

PURPOSE. The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of repeated surface treatments on wettability and surface roughness for zirconia surface and bond strength of zirconia-based ceramics to resin cement. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Seventy blocks (10 × 10 × 3 mm) of zirconia-based ceramics were fabricated and divided into two groups according to the surface treatments: (A) 110 μm Al2O3 airborne-particle abrasion and (R) 110 μm silica modified Al2O3 airborne-particle abrasion. At stage 2, each group was subdivided into 5 groups according to the surface retreatments: (a) 110 μm Al2O3 airborne-particle abrasion, (r) 110 μm silica modified Al2O3 airborne-particle abrasion, (D) diamond bur, (Da) diamond bur + 110 μm Al2O3 airborne-particle abrasion, and (Dr) diamond bur + 110 μm silica modified Al2O3 airborne-particle abrasion. Cylinders of self-adhesive resin cement were cemented onto each treated ceramic surface and subjected to micro-shear bond strength test. Additional specimens were prepared for roughness and wettability analyses. The data were subjected to t-test and One-way ANOVA followed by Tukey’s post hoc test (α=.05). RESULTS. At stage 1, group R presented higher bond strength values than group A (P=.000). There was a statistically significant increase of bond strength at stage 2 for group A (P=.003). The diamond bur influenced the surface roughness, increasing the values (P=.023). Group R provided better wettability. Regardless of the applied surface treatment, most of failures were adhesive. CONCLUSION. The combination of application and reapplication of Rocatec Plus showed the best results of bond strength. Surface retreatment and recementation might be an indicated clinical strategy.

User Selection Algorithms for MU-MIMO Systems with Coordinated Beamforming

        Fermín Marcelo Maciel-Barboza,Leonel Soriano-Equigua,Jaime Sánchez-García,Francisco Rubén Castillo-Soria,Victor Hugo Castillo Topete 한국전자통신연구원 2016 ETRI Journal Vol.38 No.1

In this paper, we propose two novel user selection algorithms for multiuser multiple-input and multiple-output downlink wireless systems, in which both a base station (BS) and mobile stations (MSs) are equipped with multiple antennas. Linear transmit beamforming at the BS and receive combining at the MSs are used to avoid interference between users and find a better sum-rate capacity performance. An optimal technique for selecting users would entail an exhaustive search, which in practice becomes computationally complex for a realistic number of users. Suboptimal algorithms with low complexity are proposed for a coordinated beamforming scheme. Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed algorithms is better than that provided by previous algorithms and is very close to an optimal approach with reduced complexity
