        Development of Novel Mucoadhesive Pellets of Metformin Hydrochloride

        Mucoadhesive polymer-coated pellets containing metformin hydrochloride were prepared by the powder-layering technique using a centrifugal fluidizing (CF)-granulator. Four high-viscosity polymers were applied to make the pellets: 1) hydroxymethylcellulose (HPMC), 2) sodium alginate (Na-Alg), 3) HPMC/Carbopol, and 4) sodium carboxylmethylcellulose (Na-CMC). The physical crushing test, mucoadhesive test, zeta-potential test, in vitro release study and observation of gastroretention state of the dosage form were performed to investigate the pellets. The strong adhesive interaction between the Na-CMC-coated pellets and the mucin disc was obtained by mucoadhesive test. Na-Alg was most effective among the polymers used in changing the value of zeta potential of the mucin solution by the interaction between a polymer and a mucin particle. Results from drug dissolution study showed that over 95% of the drug from all the four pellets was released before 2 h, while Na-CMC- and Na-Alg-coated pellets showed a moderate sustained-release in SGF (simulated gastric fluid) and SIF (simulated intestine fluid), respectively. In conclusion, Na-CMC and Na-Alg seem to be promising candidates for mucoadhesive formulation and further studies to improve the sustained-release property are underway for achieving the ultimate goal of once-a-day formulation of metformin hydrochloride.

        Pharmacokinetic study of mucoadhesive metformin pellets in rats

        Previously, we have reported the preparation and characterization of mucoadhesive pellets of metformin hydrochloride using four high-viscosity polymers including hydroxymethylcellulose (HPMC), HPMC/carbopol, sodium carboxylmethylcellulose (Na-CMC) and sodium alginate (Na-Alg) (Piao et al., Arch Pharm Res 32:391–397, 2009). Here, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic evaluation of these metformin pellets was performed. Metformin pellets were administered orally to normal and streptozotocininduced diabetic rats at 100 mg/kg dose and the blood concentration of metformin and blood glucose levels were determined. The area under the plasma concentration versus time curve from the Na-Alg-coated metformin pellets in normal rats was 69.93 ± 39.63 lg h/mL and it was the highest among tested, followed by Na-CMC-coated pellets (58.38 ± 5.19), HPMC/carbopol-coated pellets (52.24 ±5.29), HPMC-coated pellets (42.70 ± 14.29) and metformin aqueous solution (33.49 ± 2.04). The Cmax from the Na-Alg-coated metformin pellets in normal rats was 29.47 ±10.74 lg/mLand itwas the highest among tested, followed by Na-CMC-coated pellets (15.10 ± 2.73), HPMC/carbopolcoated pellets (11.38 ± 3.04), HPMC-coated pellets (11.29 ± 3.85) and metformin aqueous solution (6.92 ±0.83). The area under the effect versus time curve of the Na-Alg-coated pellets in diabetic rats was the highest as 670.01 ± 211.20 lg h/mL, followed by CMC-coated pellets (542.42 ± 116.93), HPMC-coated pellets (539.46 ±189.91), HPMC/carbopol-coated pellets (444.03 ± 90.30),and metformin aqueous solution (199.28 ± 31.07). These data show that the Na-Alg-coated pellets were found to be the best among tested as a new mucoadhesive formulation for metformin hydrochloride prepared by the powder layering technique with a centrifugal fluidizing-granulator.

        Group-aggregation of Hierarchical Containment Control for Homogeneous Multi-agent Systems in Precision Agriculture

        The mixed planting, as one of the diversification strategies, provides the substitute for many costly inputs, such as fertilizers, pesticides, imported pollinators and irrigation. However, the lack of the farming technology and the expansion of the farming scale have resulted in extremely mismatch between desired yield and manpower. This paper considers groups of agents orderly moving into precise regions, which is suitable for simultaneously planting of different crops. The hierarchical containment control strategy with group-aggregation behavior is proposed under the transformed three-layer topology. Particularly, the dynamic hierarchical containment control protocol is designed such that a novel group-aggregation cooperation in the convex hull can be achieved. A new coupling strength coefficient based on the transformed three-layer topology is defined in the proposed control protocol. Finally, two examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed dynamic hierarchical containment control protocol for agricultural settings.

        为更好顺应世界格局和国际经济形势的不断变化,我国教育需呈现国际化发展的趋势,国际化人才培养作为决定国家综合实力、国际竞争力的重要因素应更加被重视。地方高校是促进高等教育发展的重要力量,需要重视对国际化人才的培养。本文通过对人才国际化内涵的阐述以及地方高校大学生国际化能力现状的分析,从国际化人才培养目标的确立,国际化课程设置的完善,国际化的教学实践平台的完善,国际化教师“专业共同体”的组建,校园国际交流与文化氛围的营造以及人才价值观和意识形态的培养等方面提出了大学生国际化能力的培养路径。 In light of the evolving global landscape and international economic dynamics, it is imperative for China’s education system to embrace a trend of internationalization. The cultivation of internationalized talent, a pivotal factor influencing a nation’s overall capabilities and global competitiveness, warrants increased emphasis. Local colleges and universities play a significant role in advancing higher education, making it essential to focus on nurturing international talents. This paper begins by defining the essence of international talents and evaluating the current state of international competency among local college students. It then delves into key aspects, including establishing objectives for international talent development, enhancing international curricula, creating platforms for international teaching practices, and forming an ‘international teacher professional community’. Furthermore, it highlights the significance of fostering an international cultural environment on campuses and shaping the values and ideologies of students pursuing international competencies. This paper charts a path towards developing the internationalization competence of college students.

        Stability charts and reinforcement with piles in 3D nonhomogeneous and anisotropic soil slope

        Soils are mostly nonhomogeneous and anisotropic in nature. In this study, nonhomogeneity and anisotropy of soil are taken into consideration by assuming that the cohesion increases with depth linearly and also varies with respect to direction at a particular point. A three-dimensional rotational failure mechanism is adopted, and then a three-dimensional stability analysis of slope is carried out with the failure surface in the shape of a curvilinear cone in virtue of the limit analysis method. A quasistatic approach is used to develop stability charts in nonhomogeneous and anisotropic soils. One can easily read the safety factors from the charts without the need for iterative procedures for safety factors calculation. The charts are of practical importance to prevent a plane failure in excavation slope whether it is physically constrained or not. Then the most suitable location of piles within the reinforced slope in nonhomogeneous and anisotropic soils is explored, as well as the interactions of nonhomogeneous and anisotropic coefficients on pile reinforcement effects. The results indicate that piles are more effective when they are located between the middle and the crest of the slope, and the nonhomogeneous coefficient as well as the anisotropic coefficient will not only influence the most suitable location for piles but also affect the calculated safety factor of existing reinforced slope. In addition, the two coefficients will interact with each other on the effect on slope reinforcement.

        A Corpus-based Analysis of Verbal Communication under Adaptation-relevance Model

        Based on the BBC interview programs in ICE-GB corpus, this paper aims to offer an in-depth analysis of the verbal communication under adaptation-relevance model from three aspects: i) the dynamic context under adaptation-relevance model, ii) the choices of linguistic forms by inter-adaptation with the contextual correlates, and iii) the dynamic interpretation of meaning in interactive discourse. Among these, the dynamic context is the precondition of recognizing the production and interpretation of the utterances; the choices of linguistic forms by inter-adaptation with the contextual correlates reflect the concrete process of production and interpretation; and the dynamic interpretation of meaning in interactive discourse is the result of communication. The findings of the present study can not only provide the evidence for the rationality and feasibility of the adaptation-relevance model due to its explanatory and descriptive sufficiency but also shed some light on the studies of verbal communication.
