      • Intrinsic risk factors of lateral ankle sprains in Korean youth soccer: A biomechanical perspective

        Objective: This study was conducted 1) to investigate injury profiles in youth soccer prospectively, 2) to identify intrinsic risk factors of lateral ankle sprain (LAS) in youth soccer players, and 3) to compare running biomechanics between youth soccer players with and without LAS history. Methods: For the study 1, a total of 100 participants were recruited for a prospective epidemiology. Injury surveillance was carried out by athletic trainers (AT) of each team based on epidemiological criteria of FIFA and IOC. After recruitment, a year follow-up was conducted. Characteristics, incidences, body locations, types, and cause of injuries were reported as well as monthly injury, re-injury, and surgery rate. For the study 2, a total of 100 participants participated in baseline assessment including demographic and anthropometric data, range of motion, lower extremity alignments, subjective ankle function, static and dynamic balance, coordination, and ankle kinematics during running. After baseline assessment, AT recorded new LAS during follow-up period. LAS criteria were based on the position statement of the International Ankle Consortium. A binary logistic regression was used to identify intrinsic risk factors of LAS. For the study 3, six participants for LAS group and five for the control group were recruited. All participants participated in motion capture session, and ran on the 9 m runway three times at the preferred speed. 3D kinematics were calculated and compared running biomechanics between groups using ensemble curve analysis. Results: Youth soccer players suffered from noncontact ankle sprains. Re-injury and surgery rate were reported as approximately 40 and 6% of total injuries. In addition, only ankle kinematics during running may cause LAS. Last, the LAS group showed altered ankle kinematics but not other joints compared to the control group during running. Conclusion: LAS was most frequent injuries in Korean youth soccer players, and ankle kinematics during running may cause LAS. Given findings, gait training should be included in injury prevention program to prevent future LAS.

        How Should Techno Parks Innovate to Support Start-ups and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Effectively in the Era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution?

        In 1995, the Republic of Korea started to establish Techno Park (TP) in order to develop the regional industry while promoting the balanced development of the land. By 2008, 18TPs were established nationwide and have become cradles for developing local industries. And recently evolved forms of TP such as Daedeok Techno Valley and Pangyo Techno Valley emerged. In addition, 19 Centers for Creative Economy and Innovation (CCEI) were established nationwide and Tech-Incubator Program for start-ups (TIPS) was introduced to support and mentor start-ups. TPs in Korea become bureaucratic in course of time, and the new trial of innovation of TP is needed. In Korea, professional TIPS-accelerators mentoring and investing start-ups have a history of only five years. But they support and mentor start-ups efficiently, and have obtained good results. In this paper, we propose that TP attract TIPS-accelerators actively and collaborate with each other to support and mentor start-ups and SMEs effectively.

        Altered Ground Reaction Forces in Individuals with Chronic Ankle Instability Compared to Lateral Ankle Sprain Copers and Healthy Controls during Walking

        Objective: Few studies have investigated alterations of ground reaction force (GRF) in individuals with chronic ankle instability (CAI) compared with lateral ankle sprain (LAS) copers and healthy controls during walking. This study aimed to investigate differences in GRF variables among the CAI, LAS coper, and control groups. Method: Eighteen individuals with CAI, 18 LAS copers, and 18 healthy controls were recruited for this study. All participants walked on 8-m walkway with a force plate three times. GRF data during stance phase were extracted and analyzed. The analysis of variance and ensemble curve analysis were used for statistical analyses of discrete points and time-series data respectively. Results: The CAI group showed a greater loading rate (LR) and a shorter time to impact peak force than the other groups, as well as decreased vGRF from 56% to 65% in the stance phase than the control group. No significant differences were noted in the other variables. Conclusion: Based on these findings, individuals with CAI should enhance their ability to create propulsion during the push-off phase and spend more time absorbing GRF to decrease the LR, which is considered one of risk factors for overuse injury and ankle osteoarthritis.

        The Prevalence of Knee Osteoarthritis in Elderly Community Residents in Korea

        <P>The purpose of this study was to estimate the prevalence of radiographic and symptomatic knee osteoarthritis (OA) among community residents and to elucidate the relevant risk factors. This prospective, population-based study was conducted on residents over 50 yr of age in Chuncheon. Subjects completed an interview based on a standardized questionnaire and clinical evaluation including standardized weight bearing semiflexed knee A-P radiographs. We defined a subject with the Kellgren and Lawrence grade ≥2 as having radiographic knee OA (ROA). Symptomatic knee OA (SOA) was defined by the presence of both ROA and knee pain. We obtained symptom information and radiographs from 504 subjects. The prevalence of ROA and SOA was 37.3% and 24.2%, respectively. The prevalence of both ROA and SOA was significantly higher among women than among men. Multivariate analysis revealed that the presence of hypertension, and a manual occupation were significantly associated with the presence of ROA and SOA. Lower level of education was significantly associated with the presence of ROA, and female sex with the presence of SOA. In conclusion, both ROA and SOA are common in the aged adult population of Korea, with preponderance for women.</P>

        중국으로부터의 수입이 국내 제조기업의 혁신에 미치는 영향

        본 논문은 기업활동조사 자료를 이용하여, 2006년부터 2015년의 기간동안 중국으로부터의 수입 증가가 국내 제조기업들의 특허 수의 증가에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는지 실증 분석하였다. 그 결과 중국으로부터의 수입 비중이 높을수록 기업의 혁신 수준은 높았으며, 소비재보다는 중간재 수입 비중이 높을수록 기업의 혁신 수준은 더 높았다. 이 결과는 중국으로부터의 수입이 국내 시장의 경쟁을 심화시켜, 기업들이 탈 경쟁을 위한 혁신을 수행하는 것으로 해석될 수 있다. 또한, 산업연관표의 투입과 산출 관계를 이용하여 수입침투율을 재정의하여 분석한 결과, 중국산 중간재 수입의 증가가 국내 생산기업의 비용 절감과 생산공정에 대한 혁신을 촉진 시킬 수 있는 경로를 추가로 확인하였다. 이러한 결과는 우리나라의 경우 중국산 수입이 기업 혁신의 탈 경쟁 효과를 발생시킬 뿐만 아니라, 기업의 생산비용 절감을 통한 기술혁신을 촉진시키고 있다는 사실을 시사한다. This paper analyzes the impact of imports from China on the increase in patents of Korean manufacturing firms for 2006-2015 using the Survey of Business Activities. As a result, the higher the proportion of imports from China, the higher the level of innovation of firms, and imports of intermediate goods more affects the increase than final goods. This result shows that imports from China intensifies competition among Korean firms, and firms innovates to escape from competition. Also, by utilizing the input-output table, we find an additional channel that imports from China helps firms reduce costs and innovate production processes. These results suggest that imports from China not only generate the escape-competition effect but also promote innovation through costs reduction.

      • 서지정보를 이용한 고령화 대응 과학기술 연구 동향 분석

        최근 과학기술의 사회적 역할이 강조되며, 고령화 대응 과학기술에 대한 관심도 증대하고 있다. 특히, 고령화 관련 연구를 수행해온 기존의 과학기술영역은 현대 노인들의 요구를 충족시켜주기에 한계가 있는 등 새로운 과학기술의 발전방향성을 제시하기 위한 연구의 필요성이 증대하고 있다. 하지만 우리나라의 경우 고령화 대응 R&D를 총괄할 컨트롤 주체가 부재하며, 아직까지 관련 연구가 일부 영역에 편중되어 있다. 이에 본 연구는 WoS에서 제공하는 서지정보를 이용하여 키워드 네트워크분석을 수행함으로써, 고령화 대응 과학기술 분야의 지식구조를 국가별, 기간별 비교분석하였다. 분석결과, 최근 10년간의 연구동향이 직전 10년간의 연구동향과 비교하였을 때, 과학기술의 사회적 역할을 강조하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 일본과 독일, 그리고 우리나라 연구동향을 비교분석한 결과, 우리나라의 경우 노인의 사회적 지위 및 삶의 질 등, 그리고 과학기술의 사회적 역할에 대한 연구가 상대적으로 늦게 나타났다. 위 분석결과를 토대로 향후 우리나라의 고령화 대응 과학기술 R&D 추진 방향에 대한 시사점을 제시하였다

        Divergence of knowledge production strategies for emerging technologies between late industrialized countries: Focusing on quantum technology

        Traditional wisdom on how late industrialized countries follow the technology trajectories of preceding economies is in need of reformation as these countries have attained industrial leadership in a growing number of fields. However, current understandings about these countries' development of their emerging technologies have yet to investigate the divergence of idiosyncratic technology trajectories. The aim of this paper was to explore how their knowledge production strategies in emerging technology sectors are diverging. Specifically, this research examines the changing patterns of knowledge production in quantum technology in South Korea and China by developing a knowledge portfolio and knowledge strategic diagram. According to the knowledge portfolio, the relative literature position differs. In the knowledge strategic diagram, there are diverging patterns in the emerging keywords sector. This paper contributes to the literature by demonstrating the diverging strategies of late industrialized countries in their transition from catch-up to post-catch-up paradigms and provides policy implications for countries developing an idiosyncratic trajectory in emerging technology sectors.
