      • EphB1 and Ephrin-B, New Potential Biomarkers for Squamous Cell/adenosquamous Carcinomas and Adenocarcinomas of the Gallbladder

        Squamous cell/adenosquamous carcinoma (SC/ASC) of the gallbladder are rare tumors and there are few clinical reports in the literature. Herein we report our clinical experience with 46 patients with SC/ASC and 80 with adenocarcinoma (AC). Expression of EphB1 and Ephrin-B in each tumor was determined using immunohistochemical methods for determination of correlations with prognosis. There was no difference in EphB1 and Ephrin-B expression between SC/ASC and AC tumors (P>0.05), but greater expression in those less than 3 cm in diameter, stage I or II (TNM stage), with no lymph node metastases, with no local invasion and treated with radical resection was apparent. Expression of EphB1 (P<0.05) and Ephrin-B (P<0.01) was higher in well differentiated than in poorly differentiated AC tumors. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis indicated that degree of differentiation, tumor diameter, lymph node metastases, local invasion, surgical approach and expression rate of EphB1 and Ephrin-B were closely related to the survival of SC/ASC (P<0.05) and AC patients (P<0.01). Patients with tumors that positive expressed EphB1 and Ephrin-B, whether it is SC/ASC ($P_{SC/ASC}$ =0.000) or AC ($P_{AC}$ =0.000 or $P_{AC}$ =0.002) had longer survival than those negative expression. Cox multivariate analysis indicated a negative correlation between expression of EphB1 or Ephrin-B and overall survival. Hence, EphB1 and Ephrin-B could be regarded as independent good prognostic factorsand important biological markers for SC/ASC and AC of gallbladder.

      • On snap-buckling of FG-CNTR curved nanobeams considering surface effects

        The aim of this paper is to analyze the nonlinear bending of functionally graded (FG) curved nanobeams reinforced by carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in thermal environment. Chen-Yao’s surface elastic theory and geometric nonlinearity are also considered. The nanobeams are subjected to uniform loadings and placed on three-parameter substrates. The Euler-Lagrange equations are employed to deduce the equations of equilibrium. Then, the asymptotic solutions and boundary value problems are analytically determined by utilizing the two-step perturbation technique. Finally, the effects of the surface parameters, geometric factors, foundation stiffness, volume fraction, thermal effects and layout type of CNTs on the nonlinear bending of the nanobeams are discussed.

        A Numerical Study on Cavitation Suppression Using Local Cooling

        This study strives to develop an effective strategy to inhibit cavitation inception on hydrofoils by using local cooling technique. By setting up a temperature boundary condition and cooling a small area on the upper surface of a hydrofoil, the fluid temperature around the cooling surface will be decreased and thereby the corresponding liquid saturation pressure will drop below the lowest absolute pressure within the flow field. Hence, cavitation can never occur. In this paper, a NACA0015 hydrofoil at $4^{\circ}$ angle of attack was numerically investigated to verify the effectiveness of the proposed technique. The CFD results indicate that the cooling temperature and the cooling surface roughness are the critical factors affecting the success of such technique used for cavitation suppression.

        Clinicopathological Significance of Expression of Tspan-1, Jab1 and p27 in Human Hepatocellular Carcinoma

        The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of Tspan-1, Jab1 and p27 in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and their clinicopathological significance. The expression of Tspan-1, Jab1 and p27 was detected in HCC tissues, the tissues around cancer (76 cases),and the normal tissues around the liver hemangiomas (10 cases). The overexpression of Tspan-1 and Jab1 was found in HCC tissues, positively correlated with clinical stage and negatively correlated with survival rate. The expression of p27 was found inversely linked to which of Tspan-1 and Jab1. In conclusion, the expression of Tspan-1, Jab1 and p27 is significantly associated with development of HCC. Overexpression of Tspan-1 and Jab1suggests poor prognosis but overexpression of p27 may expect good prognosis for patients with HCC.

      • Aberrant Expression of E-cadherin in Lung Tissues of Patients with Probable Lung Cancer

        Introduction: This study assessed the relationship of E-cadherin mRNA and protein expression with the diagnosis of lung cancer with the aim of providing an auxiliary diagnostic method. Methods: Semi-quantitative nested RT-PCR and western blotting were applied to detect E-cadherin mRNA transcripts and protein, respectively, in 30 cases of diagnostic lung cancer, 30 cases of clinically suspected patients with lung cancer and 30 cases of other disease. Immunohistochemical staining was also used to detect E-cadherin. Results: Remarkably decreased levels of relative E-cadherin mRNA value and increased E-cadherin protein negativity were observed in probable lung cancer, when compared with possible lung cancer and others. With a threshold of 1.45, relative E-cadherin mRNA value showed a sensitivity of 90% and a specifity of 83% for the diagnosis of lung cancer. The combination of decreased relative E-cadherin mRNA value and negative E-cadherin protein increased the specificity and sensitivity. Conclusion: These data suggest that Chinese patients with diagnostic lung cancer have similar decreased levels of relative E-cadherin mRNA and E-cadherin protein value in the lung cancer tissues as in lung cancer patients in other countries. Measurement of relative E-cadherin mRNA and protein values in lung cancer tissues has potential for lung cancer diagnosis.

        Hygro-thermal wave propagation in functionally graded double-layered nanotubes systems

        In this paper, wave propagation is studied and analyzed in double-layered nanotubes systems via the nonlocal strain gradient theory. To the author's knowledge, the present paper is the first to investigate the wave propagation characteristics of double-layered porous nanotubes systems. It is generally considered that the material properties of nanotubes are related to the porosity and hygro-thermal effects. The governing equations of the double-layered nanotubes systems are derived by using the Hamilton principle. The dispersion relations and displacement fields of wave propagation in the double nanotubes systems which experience three different types of motion are obtained and discussed. The results show that the phase velocities of the double nanotubes systems depend on porosity, humidity change, temperature change, material composition, non-local parameter, strain gradient parameter, interlayer spring, and wave number.

        Lifetime data modelling and reliability analysis based on modified weibull extension distribution and Bayesian approach

        Satellite reliability has long been a critical issue in space industry. In-orbit lifetime data modelling and the corresponding reliability analysis are indispensable aspects for satellite reliability. However, limited by available in-orbit lifetime data, these two aspects have not been well studied. Aiming to mitigate this limitation, we conduct a coherent research on satellite reliability analysis based on an in-orbit database of 1584 satellites. A nonparametric reliability analysis is firstly implemented on the data set to identify the characteristics of failure rate. Then, the modified Weibull extension distribution is used to model the satellite reliability. Point estimation and interval estimation are carried out by utilizing a Bayesian method. Posterior distributions of model parameters are obtained and reserved for further reliability analysis of newly launched satellites. The results presented in this paper can provide helpful information to the space industry for design improvement and test planning of new satellites.

        Genome-wide identification and analysis of MIKC-type MADS-box genes expression in Chimonanthus salicifolius

        Background MIKC type MADS-box transcription factors are one of the largest gene families and play a pivotal role in flowering time and flower development. Chimonanthus salicifolius belongs to the family Calycanthaceae and has a unique flowering time and flowering morphology compared to other Chimonanthus species, but the research on MIKC type MADS-box gene family of C. salicifolius has not been reported. Objective Identification, comprehensive bioinformatic analysis, the expression pattern of MIKC-type MADS-box gene family from different tissues of C. salicifolius. Methods Genome-wide investigation and expression pattern under different tissues of the MIKC-type MADS-box gene family in C. salicifolius, and their phylogenetic relationships, evolutionary characteristics, gene structure, motif distribution, promoter cis-acting element were performed. Results A total of 29 MIKC-type MADS-box genes were identified from the whole genome sequencing. Interspecies synteny analysis revealed more significant collinearity between C. salicifolius and the magnoliids species compared to eudicots and monocots. MIKC-type MADS-box genes from the same subfamily share similar distribution patterns, gene structure, and expression patterns. Compared with Arabidopsis thaliana, Nymphaea colorata, and Chimonanthus praecox, the FLC genes were absent in C. salicifolius, while the AGL6 subfamily was expanded in C. salicifolius. The selectively expanded promoter (AGL6) and lack of repressor (FLC) genes may explain the earlier flowering in C. salicifolius. The loss of the AP3 homologous gene in C. salicifolius is probably the primary cause of the morphological distinction between C. salicifolius and C. praecox. The csAGL6a gene is specifically expressed in the flowering process and indicates the potential function of promoting flowering. Conclusion This study offers a genome-wide identification and expression profiling of the MIKC-types MADS-box genes in the C. salicifolius, and establishes the foundation for screening flowering development genes and understanding the potential function of the MIKC-types MADS-box genes in the C. salicifolius.

        Traffic Flow Assignment Model with Modified Impedance Function

        In this paper, we study a mixed-mode traffic network, in which Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) and Gasoline Vehicles (GVs) can be driven freely. We propose a new piecewise impedance function and, based on this new impedance function, we present a convex but nonsmooth optimization model for the traffic network. In order to deal with the nonsmoothness, we introduce a binary variable. Furthermore, we report some numerical examples to show the efficiency of the model. %is effective and robust. In particular, our numerical results illustrate that, if the distance limit of BEVs is long enough and the unit operating cost of BEVs is lower than GVs, more travelers prefer to choosing BEVs.

        Data-Driven Support Vector Machine with Optimization Techniques for Structural Health Monitoring and Damage Detection

        Rapid detecting damages/defeats in the large-scale civil engineering structures, assessing their conditions and timely decision making are crucial to ensure their health and ultimately enhance the level of public safety. Advanced sensor network techniques recently allow collecting large amounts of data for structural health monitoring and damage detection, while how to effectively interpret these complex sensor data to technical information posts many challenges. This paper presents three optimization-algorithm based support vector machines for damage detection. The optimization algorithms, including grid-search, partial swarm optimization and genetic algorithm, are used to optimize the penalty parameters and Gaussian kernel function parameters. Two types of feature extraction methods in terms of time-series data are selected to capture effective damage characteristics. A benchmark experimental data with the 17 different scenarios in the literature were used for verifying the proposed data-driven methods. Numerical results revealed that all three optimized machine learning methods exhibited significantly improvement in sensitivity, accuracy and effectiveness over conventional methods. The genetic algorithm based SVM had a better prediction than other methods. Two different feature methods used in this study also demonstrated the appropriate features are crucial to improve the sensitivity in detecting damage and assessing structural health conditions. The findings of this study are expected to help engineers to process big data and effectively detect the damage/defects, and thus enable them to make timely decision for supporting civil infrastructure management practices.
