Treatment of Morsicatio Buccarum by Oral Appliance: Case Report

Morsicatio buccarum is a condition caused by chronic cheek biting. It means frictional hyperkeratosis by repetitive cheek biting, which may be associated with obsessive compulsion. Clinically it presents as rough, shaggy, whitish, often peeling surface. We report a 9-year-old female patient who complained oral ulceration on both buccal mucosa. The initial diagnosis was oral candidiasis because of whitish plaques which were peeled off. Topical antifungal agent was ineffective and the symptom did not disappear. By incisional biopsy, she was diagnosed with morsicatio buccarum. A soft oral appliance was placed in the patient's oral cavity. Although morsicatio buccarum improved significantly when the appliance was used, the oral lesion had a tendency to recur, when the patient stopped using the appliance. In case of recurrence, cognitive behavioral therapy for obsessive-compulsive disorder is needed for the fundamental treatment.

이 글은 오키나와의 한인교회를 사례로 다문화 상황에서 문화적 적응과 문화적 정체성 찾기 과정을 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 오키나와 교회는 미군 부대에 근무하는 한국계 미국인이 주도하여 오키나와에 설립한 교회이다. 그 결과 오키나와 교회는 한국문화와 오키나와문화 그리고 미국 문화가 공존하는 다문화 현장이 되었다. 이런 다문화 상황에서 오키나와 교회는 어떻게 자신의 모습을 만들어 가는가를 분석하고자 한다. 다문화 상황에 있는 오키나와 교회의 존재 양상은 두 가지 힘으로 설명할 수 있다. 하나는 문화적으로 다양한 교인들을 통합하여 종교 공동체를 유지하는 것이며 다른 하나는 한국문화의 정체성을 추구하는 것이다. 그러나 이 두 가지 힘은 종종 대립되게 나타난다. 즉, 문화적으로 다양한 교인들을 통합하려고 하면 한국문화의 정체성이 훼손되며, 한국문화의 정체성을 강조하면 다른 사람들이 교회에서 소외되는 현상이 나타난다. 따라서 이 두 가지 힘은 변증법적으로 작동한다. 즉, 오키나와 교회의 존재 양상은 지속적으로 변화하고 있으며 다문화 상황에 대응하기 위한 역동성을 가지고 있다. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the process of cultural adaptation and the making of cultural identity in the multi-cultural situation by using case of Okinawa church. Okinawa church was founded by Korean Americans who worked in Okinawa U.S. military bases. As a result, Okinawa church has been multi-cultural religious community which includes Korean culture, American culture and Okinawan culture. I intended to understand how Okinawa church construct and reconstruct its cultural identity in multi-cultural situation. The identity of Okinawa church is explained by two dimensional movements. One is to make religious community by integrating culturally diverse members of the church, the other is to pursue cultural identity of Korea. Okinawa church have carried out various activities to meet these purposes. But, these movements are sometimes contradicted each other. The activities to integrate culturally diverse members to make a religious community degrade the cultural identity of Korea. On the other hand, the activities to make cultural identity of Korea is alienated Americans and Japaneses. As a results, the activities of two movements work dialectically. The identity of Okinawa church have been reconstructed and have dynamics in the multi-cultural conditions.
Visual Navigation using Pixel Intensity Information

Homing navigation is an important survival skill in animals. They have fast and accurate homing capability. In this paper, we propose a new technique that encodes landmark vectors using gray values of pixels. It has been improved by using a sorting method which removes unnecessary part in the image. Based on the snapshot model, the reference map is created by using the landmark vector set of a snapshot image. Then the landmark arrangement method is applied between landmark vectors from the current image and landmarks on the reference map to do the localization. After localization, the homing navigation can be done by estimating the homing direction using the estimated position on the map. We show the result of the suggested method and effectiveness in aspect of homing navigation.

The Internet of Things (IoT) technology is gaining vast popularity and it is expected to become ubiquitous in the near future. It envisions the idea of a fully connected network of smart objects, enabling cooperative and intelligent distributed functionalities. Especially, smart homes provide innovative, automated and interactive services for residential customers through distributed and collaborative operations. In this paper the challenge of processing large amounts of sensor data at network gateways with limited memory and computing power is described. A resource-efficient system to process various heterogeneous data is introduced.
Preparation and Reaction Studies of Pt / Al₂O₃ Model Catalysts

알루미늄 박편 위에 Pt/Al₂O₃ 모델 촉매를 만들었다. 알루미늄 표면을 10^(-5)Torr의 산소 압력 하에서 산화시킨 후, plasma evaporation source를 사용하여 Pt을 증착시켰다. 이 모델 촉매 표면에서 얼어나는 1-butene의 반응을 연구하였다. 산화알루미늄 표면에서는 이성질화 반응이 일어났으나, Pt을 증착시킨 산화알루미늄 표면에서는 수소첨가반응이 일어남이 관찰되었다. 알루미나 표면의 Pt이 증가함에 따라 수소첨가반응으로의 선택성이 증가되었다. Surface of Pt/Al₂O₃ model catalyst was produced on an aluminum foil with surface area of 1 ㎠. The aluminum surface was oxidized under 10^(-5) Torr oxygen and platinum was deposited on top of the oxide layer using a plasma evaporation source. Conversion of 1-butene was performed on the model catalyst surface. Isomerization was the major reaction in 1-butene conversion on the aluminum oxide layer. Addition of Pt on the aluminum oxide layer induces hydrogenation of 1-butene. Selectivity for the hydrogenation increases as the amount of Pt on alumina increases.
Effects of strain on electronic properties of monolayer a-Fe2O3

Density functional theory was employed to study the strain-induced modification of electronic properties of advanced monolayer a-Fe2O3 for the first time. Theoretical results indicated that there was obvious dependency of band structure on strain. The band gap modulation could reach up to 29.0% for 7% compressive strain and to 10.6% for 7% tensile strain. The analytical results of fat-band structures demonstrated that the considerable modulation range of band gaps was mainly caused by the Fe-dz2 orbital.
