Background: Sebaceous carcinoma is a rare, aggressive tumor of sebaceous glands commonly located on the head and neck. Clinically it resembles benign inflammatory condition, which may contribute to higher rates of distant metastasis mortality due to diagnostic delay. Due to its rare occurrence, optimal treatment modality has yet to be established. Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of Mohs micrographic surgery in sebaceous carcinoma Methods: This study is a retrospective review of patients, who were treated with Mohs micrographic surgery. Results: We have experienced three elderly patients (1 male, 2 female; mean age 82.3) with sebaceous carcinoma. All three patients were successfully treated with Mohs micrographic surgery. During the average follow up of 28 months, there was no recurrence of the tumor. Conclusion: Our experience emphasizes the benefits of Mohs micrographic surgery for rare malignant tumors.
P073 : Treatment of rare nodular fasciitis occurring on the face
( Byung Ho Oh ),( Ji Hee Kim ),( Zhen Long Zheng ),( Mi Ryung Rho ),( Kee Yang Chung ) 대한피부과학회 2014 대한피부과학회 학술발표대회집 Vol.66 No.2
Background: Surgical excision is generally recommended for the treatment of nodular fasciitis (NF) to rule out sarcoma. However, in rare cases of NF occurring on the face, non- surgical treatment and regular follow-up can be recommended considering surgical scar. Objectives: To evaluate the outcomes of surgical and non-surgical methods for the treatment of NF on the face. Methods: We performed a retrospective review of 16 patients diagnosed with NF on the face. Patients were treated with surgical excision or non-surgical methods such as triamcinolone intralesional injection (TA ILI) and pinhole method using a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser. Results: Among the 16 patients, surgical treatment was performed in nine cases and recurrence occurred in seven (77.8%, 7/9). Recurred lesions showed regression after repeated TA ILI. In five cases, pinhole method and repeated TA ILI resulted in regression. In one case, NF spontaneously regressed. On a visual analogue scale, pinhole treatment scored higher than surgical treatment. However, the values were not statistically significant (6.90±1.56 vs.5.61±1.36, p=0.163). Satisfaction level was lower in recurred patients. Conclusion: Surgical treatment for the NF on the face shows noticeable recurrence rate and results in scarring. Therefore, considering the possibility of spontaneous regression, non-surgical treatment should be recommended as the treatment of choice for NF on the face.
FCT 7 : Evaluation of a novel thread-lift in the improvement of nasolabial folds & cheek laxity
( Jihee Kim ),( Hee Su Kim ),( Jung Min Bae ),( Jimyung Seo ),( Hong Sun Jang ),( Mi Ryung Rho ),( Byung Ho Oh ),( Kyung Ae Nam ),( Kee Yang Chung ) 대한피부과학회 2014 대한피부과학회 학술발표대회집 Vol.66 No.2
Background: Since the use of the first barbed sutures for facial rejuvenation in 1990s, various products have been introduced based on different principles. There have been many published reports showing its effectiveness but majority relies on subjective improvement parameters assessed by practitioners or patients. Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of a novel monodirectionally barbed polydioxanone face-lifting thread by various objective measuring tools such as ultrasonography and 3-dimensional imaging. Methods: A single center, uncontrolled, open labeled, non-randomized trial was designed. Twenty three volunteers underwent a single thread-lifting. Ultrasonographic analysis and 3-dimensional imaging were performed before the procedure and one month after. Results: Among the 23 volunteers, 22 were females and one was a male. Average age of the enrolled volunteers were 60.2±6.8 years. Ultrasonographic measurement of the dermal thickness showed statistically significant increase and three dimensional measurements showed decreased volume and area around the nasolabial fold and jowl. All patients were satisfied with the outcomes after the single thread-lift procedure. Conclusion: In this study, we evaluated the outcomes of a thread-lift using three-dimensional imaging and ultrasonography. Thread-lift using a newly developed monodirectionally barbed polydioxanone thread was found to be convenient and effective to treat the aging features of the face.
