      • 2-Acetylaminofluorene으로 유발된 실험적 간암의 세포 동태학적 연구

        Kinetics of hepatocytes in various precancerous and cancer iesions during hepatocarcinorenesis was evaluated in 38 Sprague-Dawley rats fed with 0.075% 2-acetylaminofluorene diet. The rats were sacrificed after 4, 7, 10 days. 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 weeks, and 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 months of the experiment. The lesions were divided as altered cell lesions (clear cell focus, acidophilic cell focus, and basophilic cell focus). regenerating nodules. neoplastic nodules, and hepatocellular carcinomas. Cell kinetics was studied by intraperitoneal bromodexyuridine(BrdU) injection 2 hours before sacrifice. After detection of the BrdU-incorporated nuclei with monoclonal antibody kit, the BrdU labelling index(BLI) was measured as percentage of BrdU labelled cells among about 1000 cells. The liver cells in the altered cell lesions showed significantly increased BLI(clear cell 1.66: acidophilic 2.39: basophilic 2.41) in comparion with normal control(0. 18) or non-lesional hepatocytic lobules (0. 47), and lower BLI than hepatocellular carcinoma(8.61∼27.07) (P<0.05). Regenerating and neoplastic nodules did not differ in their BLI (1.54 and 1.70), and were significantly lower in their proliferating kinetics than acidophilic or basophilic cell foci (P<0.05). It was suggested from this study that the altered cell lesion should be true premalignant lesion, which was composed of at least initiated cells by the chemical carcinogen. The basophilic and acidophilic foci in altered cell lesions were suggestive of close correlation with the hepatocellular carcinoma in that they had greatest proliferative cell kinetics of all the lesions occurred before cancer developed.

        유기 수단그라스의 사료가치, 사일리치 품질 및 기호성 평가

        The main nutritional problem of sorghumxsudangrass hybrid (Sorghum bicolorxSorghum sudanese) silage is low quality and palatability. This experiment was conducted to evaluate whether organic com grain and crushed rice addition of sorghumxsudangrass hybrid silage increases forage quality of the silage. The sorghumxsudangrass hybrid silages with added com grain and crushed rice were similar to conventional corn silage in moisture content. However organic sorghumxsudangrass hybrid silage had low pH values. Silage added with gain and byproduct had higher crude ash, acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) contents than control corn silages, while its non-fiber carbohydrate (NFC) and total digestible nutrients (TDN) showed the opposite results. Lactic acid, butyric acid and lactic percentage oftotal organic acid (UT) of sorghumxsudangrass hybrid silages were higher than those of com silage, but acetic acid was higher than control. In vitro dry matter digestibi/ity (IVDMD) of com silage was higher than other sorghum silages. Feed intake of sorghumxsudangrass hybrid silage added with crushed rice was highest among silages. Therefore, these data indicate that crushed rice and com grain added sorghumxsudangrass hybrid silage could be recommended as the most effective treatment for increasing silage quality and palatability.

        낭종성 부갑상선 선종에 의한 부갑상선 기능 항진증 1예

        Cystic parathyroid adenoma is one of the rare causes of hyperparathyroidism, and is usually located in neck and mediastinum. This type of adenoma tends to cause increased serum level of parathyroid hormone and alkaline phosphatase, similar serum calcium level when compared to those of solid adenoma. Thanks to current radioimmunoassay and easy accessibility to serum autoanalyzer, serum calcium level and parathyroid hormone level are more easily measured, which in turn lead to more easier diagnosis of hyperparathyroidism. Also improvement in imaging and nuclear diagnostic method of parathyroid lesion are suggested to enable easy diagnosis of cystic parathyroid adenoma. A 35-year-old male presented with easy fatigability for 12 months. The serum calcium, phosphate, alkaline phosphotase were 11.5mg/dL, 1.4mg/dL, 194IU/L respectively and his parathyroid hormone level in serum was 126.42pg/mL. Neck CT showed enlargement of right lobe of thyroid gland with well defined inhomogenously enhanced density inside the right thyroid gland. The patient was diagnosed of hyperparathyroidim due to parathyroid adenoma and was surgically removed. The surgical biopsy showed cystic parathyroid adenoma. After operation his general condition was improved and serum calcium, phosphate, parathyroid hormone level were normalizd. We report a case of hyperparathyroidism caused by cystic parathyroid adenoma with brief review of literature. (J Kor Soc Endocrinol 12:75-80, 1997)

        Effects of Mechanochemical Pretreatment on the Extraction of Functional Materials from Houttuynia cordata

        Houttuynia cordata is used as a raw material of oriental medicine to acquire antioxidant and anti cancer effect and to cure a heart disease. Mechanochemical technology not only reduces the size of the object but also changes the chemical properties of the object. Extraction of functional materials from the Houttuynia cordata after grinding as a pretreatment using the mechanochemical technology was conducted in this study to investigate the effect of grinding on the yields and antioxidant activities of the extract. Houttuynia cordata was ground by the planetary ball mill and the morphology was analyzed by SEM. Yields of functional materials were increased from 6.2 g in the sample without grinding to 7.0, 7.8, 8.8 g after grinding of 30 minutes, 1 hour and 2 hours, respectively. Nitrite scavenging abilities were increased from 57-77% to 69-86% as a result of mechanochemical pretreatment. Also, DPPH scavenging abilities for the methanol extraction were increased from 10.01-40.29% to 11.01-49.29% as a result of mechanochemical grinding.

        Localized or solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) of the pleura has been classified as a type of mesothelioma, arising from the submesothelial connective tissue cells. The preoperative diagnosis of the tumor at the cytologic or histologic level is very important for the proper handling of the lesion. This preoperative diagnosis is now possible by means of the advance in the transthoracic fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNA) techniques and in the very experience of the cytopathologists. We describe FNA cytologic feature of two cases of SFT arising from the pleura. Cytologic, histologic, immunohistochemical, and electron microscopic characteristics of pleural SFT are discussed. The tumor cells of SFT are spindle or oval in shape with a variable amount of cytoplasm. They are arranged in irregular trabeculae intimately associated with capillaries. A unique cytologic feature observed in this tumor is that thick, eosinophilic, amorphous collagen bundles are scattered between tumor cells.

        Characteristics of soil respiration in Pinus densiflora stand undergoing secondary succession by fire-induced forest disturbance

        The purpose of this study is to compare soil $CO_2$ efflux between burned and unburned sites dominated by Pinus densiflora forest in the Samcheok area where a big forest fire broke out along the east coast in 2000 and to measure soil $CO_2$ efflux and environmental factors between March 2011 and February 2012. Soil $CO_2$ efflux was measured with LI-6400 once a month; the soil temperature at 10 cm depth, air temperature, and soil moisture contents were measured in continuum. Soil $CO_2$ efflux showed the maximum value in August 2011 as 417.8 mg $CO_2m^{-2}h^{-1}$ (at burned site) and 1175.1 mg $CO_2m^{-2}h^{-1}$ (at unburned site), while it showed the minimum value as 41.4 mg $CO_2m^{-2}h^{-1}$ (at burned site) in December 2011 and 42.7 mg $CO_2m^{-2}h^{-1}$ (at unburned site) in February 2012. The result showed the high correlation between soil $CO_2$ efflux and the seasonal changes in temperature. More specifically, soil temperature showed higher correlation with soil $CO_2$ efflux in the burned site ($R^2$ = 0.932, P < 0.001) and the unburned site ($R^2$ = 0.942, P < 0.001) than the air temperature in the burned site ($R^2$ = 0.668, P < 0.01) and the unburned site ($R^2$ = 0.729, P < 0.001). $Q_{10}$ values showed higher sensitivity in the unburned site (4.572) than in the burned site (2.408). The total soil $CO_2$ efflux was obtained with the exponential function between soil $CO_2$ efflux and soil temperature during the research period, and it showed 2.5 times higher in the unburned site (35.59 t $CO_2ha^{-2}yr^{-1}$, 1 t = $10^3$ kg) than in the burned site (14.69 t $CO_2ha^{-2}yr^{-1}$).

        Antioxidant Activity of Saururus chinensis Pretreated by Mechanochemical Technology - Nitrite Scavenging and Electron Donating Ability -

        Saururus chinensis is used as a raw material of an anti-rheumatic, poultice, sedative and stomachic. The tea of dried Saururus chinensis leaves has a function of relaxing pains in back and breast and of treating stomach ailments. The plant has the functions of anti-inflammatory, depurative, diuretic, febrifuge and refrigerant. The extraction of functional material is carried out by methanol and ethanol solvents. Mechanochemical grinding is applied as a pretreatment process before extraction to enhance the extraction efficiency by increasing the surface area of the materials while changing the chemical properties of the materials. Extraction of functional materials from the Saururus chinensis after grinding as a pretreatment using the mechanochemical technology was accomplished in this study to investigate the effect of grinding on the antioxidant activities of the extract. Saururus chinensis was ground by the planetary ball mill and the morphology was analyzed by SEM. Mechanochemical pretreatment increased the yields of functional materials from 5.9 g to 6.4, 7.0, and 8.1 g after grinding of 30 minutes, 1 hour and 2 hours, respectively. Nitrite scavenging ability increased from 53.0-71.0% to 61.0-79.0% for the methanol extraction in the solution of pH 1.2. Also, Electron donating abilities were increased from 7.90-33.51% to 11.97-38.51% for the methanol extraction. The extract concentration for the half inhibition of DPPH radicals was reduced from $278{\mu}g/mL$ in the original sample to $263{\mu}g/mL$ in the sample after grinding for the methanol extraction.
