Modern performing arts is a combination of multiple genres creating a new form of its own. Play, dance, concert, musicals and operas are breaking previous rules to share each other’s characteristics. Technology in performing arts has been developing quickly to create a deeper illusion to the spectators. Because of the complexity of modern shows the role of the stage manager is not limited to calling the show but managing staffs, planning and running rehearsals, show maintenance, creation of show bibles and being the liaison between the company, staffs, performers and creative. Despite the role of the stage manager has been rapidly growing training and education for future stage manager is very underdeveloped. The fast growing market of live performance in Korea is constantly looking for trained professional stage managers therefore the education system to train such professionals is essential to the growth of the performing arts development in Korea. This thesis focuses on the definition of the stage manager’s role and the need of such education. It also proposes an education system inside the drama school or similar department for theoretical and practical study of stage management. Simulations of real productions will take place during the theoretical classes and practical training will take place during field works in real performances and interaction with stage managers on the field. Attached are document formats and show records to be used in classes. This thesis also enlightens the future of stage management and it embraces the hope that stage managers will play a bigger role in the development of performing arts.

Purpose: Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) causes endemic or epidemic outbreaks of CHIKV fever, which is a mosquitoe-transmitted viral disease in Africa, India, South-East Asia, and recently Southern Europe. Currently, serological diagnostic tests such as hemagglutination inhibition test (HI test), in-house IgM capture enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), and indirect immunofluorescence test were used for diagnosis of chikungunya fever, which are based on whole virus antigens. Materials and Methods: CHIKV E1, and E2 envelope proteins for the CHIKV-specific serodiagnostic reagents for chikungunya fever were expressed in baculovirus expression system. The seroreactivity of recombinant CHIKV E1 and E2 envelope proteins were evaluated using sera panels of patients from Laboratoire Marcel Merieux by indirect IgM capture ELISA. Results: The recombinant CHIKV E1 and E2 envelope protein showed sensitivity of 77.5% and 90%, respectively. The specificities of both CHIKV E1 and E2 envelope proteins were 100%. Conclusion: The recombinant CHIKV E1 and E2 envelope proteins could be a useful diagnostic reagent for CHIKV infection.
