We retrospectively evaluated our results of replantations of distal digital amputations and analyzed the factors deterrent to the survival of replanted digits. From January 2004 to 2005 June, we performed 101 cases of replantations following complete amputations at or distal to interphalangeal joint level. The study included 98 patients with a mean age of 35.6 years (range 1 to 63 years). Amputation level correlated to zone I (distal to the lunula)in 47 cases and zone II (lunula to distal interphalangeal joint) in 54 cases according to Yamano's classification. According to the mechanism of amputation, 24 cases (22.9%) suffered from guillotine type injury, 27 cases (27.1 %) from avulsion type injury and 50 cases (50%) from crush type injury. In all cases, a single arterial anastomosis was performed. Venous anastomosis on either volar or dorsal side was performed in 12 cases of amputation in zone II. Salvage procedure for venous drainage was performed in 98 cases. The mean duration of salvage procedures was 5.9 days (ranging from 4 to 14 days). Successful replantation was achieved in 96 cases (95.1%), which included 93.7% cases in zone I amputations and 96.3% cases in zone II amputations. A single venous anastomosis was performed in 12 cases of amputation in zone II. All of them survived completely. Among the 5 cases that failed to survive, 3 cases were related with avulsion injury in zone I. Initial mechanism of injury determines the survival rate of amputated parts as it is directly related with the status of vessels and soft tissues. Meticulous precaution during the salvage procedure may affect the overall survival rate of distal digital replantations.

The objective of this study was to evaluatequality properties including amylose, alkali digestion value(ADV), texture and GABA (Gamma Amino-Butyric Acid)of brown rice and 1~5 ㎜ germinated brown rice of Keunnunand Samkwang culitvars. The protein content of germinatedbrown rice showed increasing tendency according to shootlength, however, the difference was not statistically significant. The amylose content of all samples ranged from 15.0% to16.0% in Keunnun and 17.0% to 18.0% in Samkwang, withoutsignificant differences. Compared to regular brown rice,germinated brown rice from both cultivars demonstratedreduced gel consistency, which contributed to the improvedcooked rice texture. Especially, germinated brown rice hadsignificantly lower setback values, which is correlated withhigh palatability of cooked rice. However, there was nosignificant difference in gel consistency between 1 ㎜ and2~5 ㎜ germinated brown rice. GABA content in Keunnunincreased by 3~5 times after germination process. In Samkwang,GABA content increased by 50 times (from 0.005 ㎍/g to0.243~0.247 ㎍/g) after germination. The hardness of germinatedbrown rice was significantly lower than that of brownrice. However, there was no significant difference in hardnessaccording to shoot length. Consequently, when processinggerminate brown rice, it is recommended to maximize functionalingredients by germination while maintaining shootlength less than 2 ㎜.

A series of yakuchinone B 1f and its analogs 1a-e was synthesized and evaluated for free radical scavenging, suppression of LPS-induced NO generation, cytotoxicity and anti-excitotoxicity in vitro. Compound 1c exhibited potent anti-excitotoxicity, while all compounds 1a-f showed considerable effects of free radical scavenging, suppression of LPS–induced NO generation, and cytotoxicity in microglia.

Test plants with 10 days old primary leaves were indouclated by shaking infected seedlings with sporulating colonies over them in an inoculation room under the conditions of 20$\pm$1 $^{\circ}C$ with constant illumination of 2.500 lux and 100% realtive humidity. A seeding reaction of 4 days after inoculation appreared in the trisomic types as opposed to Tri-5B line had been symtoms of a fungus 3 days after inoculation. The infection types of 8 days after inoculation were recognized with higher susceptibility to each trisomics in A genomie than B-genome. Tri-2A line showed less condium and there appeared symptoms of a conditions of mottle and formed papilla, and haustorium was not formed. However, Tri-5B line had much condium one overall leaves and showed a symtom like necrosis compared with normal plant. Moreover, Tri-5B line showed high sensitivity and high germination number of condium. These results inferred that resistant gene located on 2A chromosome and susceptibility gene is located on the chromosome 5B.

고온등숙(27℃)된 벼 종자는 외관상 심복백 및 세백 등이 증가되어 품위 저하 및 단백질함량 등의 품질변이가 나타나는 것으로 알려지고 있으며, 본 연구결과에서도 단백질 함량이 증가되고 1,000립중이 감소되는 등 품질변 이가 인정되었으며 동안벼는 다른 품종에 비하여 비교적 품질변이가 적었으나 오대벼는 상대적으로 변이정도가 컸으며 이 두 품종에 대하여 아밀로펙틴 및 미량원소 등 품질요인과 proteomics 변이양상을 구명하였다. 고온등숙 된 종자에 대한 아밀로펙틴 분석결과 단쇄(DP6-12, DP13~24)부분의 비율이 감소하고 중장쇄(DP25~36, DP36이 상)비율이 증가하였으며, 미량원소는 성분에 따라서 함량이 증가되거나 낮아지는 현상을 볼 수 있었다. 또한 고온등숙 종자를 SDS에 용해되는 gluten 단백질 분획을 추출하고 2DE에 의한 proteomics 분석결과, 동안벼 및 오대벼의 품종간에 발현량 차이를 보인 40개의 spots을 확인할 수 있었으며 globulin, dehydroascorbate reductase, heat shock protein 26, phosphoglucomutase 등 20여종의 단백질이 관여된 것으로 밝혀졌다
