The water quality simulation was carried out to predict water quality in Tan stream of the Han river using water quality model, QUAL2E. In the end, the future variations in water quality of Tan stream were simulated and the prediction of the impacts of Tan stream on water quality in the Han river was carried out by applying the Tan stream simulation results into the model. The results are as follows. The predicted results of future water quality of Tan stream suggested that the concentrations of BOD, T-N and T-P at Chungdam bridge would increase to 0.68~0.77 mg/$\ell$, 1.33~1.62 mg/$\ell$ and 0.05~0.06 mg/$\ell$, respectively in 2006 and 2011 and that with the implementation of advanced treatment in Sungnam and Tanchun sewage treatment plants, the concentration of T-N would be reduced more as the amount of treated sewage increase, while the concentration of T-P would stay 0.49 mg/$\ell$. The results obtained from simulation of the impacts of future Tan stream water quality improvement on the main stream of the Han river showed that with implementation of advanced treatment in both Sungnam and Tanchun sewage treatment plants, the concentration of T-N, T-P and chlorophyll-a at Hangang bridge and Heangju bridge would be reduced by 11.6%, 7.7% and 20.9%, respectively in 2..6 and by 13.6%, 9.4% and 22.2%, respectively in 2011, which indicates that the effect on the reduction of T-N and T-P would be relatively significant while the effect on the decrease of algae would be slight.

It is very important to achieve a high reproducibility in the ultrasonic measurement of bone mineral density. In this study, we examined number of sampling waveform, control of temperature, diameter of region of interest as factors to improve reproducibility. We decided the optimal number of waveforms to be converted to frequency domain as period of 1. We have minimized the effects of variable temperature and constrained generation of micro bubble by keeping temperature within a range of $32\pm0.5^{\circ}C$ with a precise temperature controlling algorithm. We also found the optimal diameter of region of interest to be 13mm. In this paper, we demonstrated the improved reproducibility by controlling various factors affecting the ultrasonic measurement of bone mineral density.

Saponin is one of major conponents in oriental medicine, which'''':s present in Ophiopogoneae. Saponin composition on ethyl acetate fractions from the butanolic extracts of two species, Liriope platyphylla and Ophiopogon japonicus was measured using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). HPLC analysis revealed that spicatoside A and B were identified in the tuber of L. platyphylla. However, spicatoside A was not identified in the tuber of O. japonicus. Related to that, it may be possible to discriminate between Liriopis and Ophiopogonis Tuber using HPLC analysis. 한국산 맥문동과 중국산 소엽맥문동의 성분패턴비교에서 HPLC 분석 결과, 중국산 소엽맥문동(Ophiopogon japonicus)은 RT. 21.2분의 peak는 표준품과 대조결과 spicatoside B인 것으로 확인되었다 반면에 국산 맥문동(Liriope platyphylla)은 spicatoside A와 spicatoside B가 표준품 대조 결과 RT. 6.8분과 21.2분대에서 확인되었다. 따라서 건조된 상태에서 혼용되어 사용하고 있는 한국산 맥문동과 중국산 소엽맥문동은 HPLC 성분패턴상으로 감별이 가능하게 되었다.

First, Platycodi Radix in this study was divided according to natural Platycodi Radix and cultured Platycodi Radix(White, claret), with or without peeling. And then comparative study was made through analyzing the extract, Crude Saponin content and Crude Saponin component by HPLC. The results were as follows : 1. Generally the extract in Platycodi Radix was more in the natural Platycodi Radix and the cultured Platycodi Radix without peeling than that with peeling. It was extremely much in the cultured claret Platycodi Radix with peeling had the least extract. 2. Crude Saponin Content was more in the natural Platycodi Radix and the cultured Platycodi Radix without peeling than with peeling, extremely much in the natural Platycodi Radix without peeling and the cultured claret Platycodi Radix with peeling had the least content. 3. Prosapogenin content increased in the natural Platycodi Radix and the cultured Platycodi Radix without peeling than that with peeling and it was most extremely in the natural with and without peeling. Also the cultured claret Platycodi Radix had the least content. 4. The analysis of Crude Saponin content in the Platycodi Radix by HPLC showed that 8 kinds of saponin were in the cultured white Platycodi Radix with peeling, 9 without peeling, 9 in the cultured claret with peeling, 10 without peeling, 10 in the natural with peeling and 11 without peeling. 5. The analysis of Prosapogenin by HPLC showed that 6 kinds fo prosapogenin were in the cultured white Platycodi Radix with peeling, 7 without peeling, 3 in the cultured claret with peeling, 5 without peeling and 4 in the natural with peeling, 5 without peeling. 6. The analysis of Free sugar shows that 3 kinds of Sugar were in the cultured white Platycodi Radix with peeling, 5 without peeling 3 the cultured claret with peeling, 5 without peeling, 4 in the natural with peeling, 5 without peeling. From the above results, the content of Crude Saponin, Prosapogenin and all sorts of Saponin, Prosapogenin, Free Sugar were variable according to the natural Platycodi Radix and the cultured white and claret with or without peeling. Therefore, it is recommended that there should be more studies on the Saponin and Prosapogenin of various kinds to use a dose and an efficacy of a remedy in accordance with the Platycodi Radix of different kinds, systematically.
