        It is very difficult to test the concrete quality, because the concrete consists of various materials, such as cement, sand, gravel, water, and etc. Therefore, the concrete has difficulties to estimate quickly its quality, compared with the other materials, Accordingly, we can't reflect quality control result quickly, a fresh concrete has many serious problems (economical problem, structural problem, etc.) after being cast in place. Especially, it takes a long time to discover the problems so that it's difficult to consider a counterplan when we discover them. And it takes not only many cost to Solve those problems, but we can't also remove perfectly fundamental ones. Besides, it results in shortening a whole building life, nevertheless the damage is small and limited. Therefore, the earlier test system of concrete quality is needed for the solution of the problem. The purpose of this study is to develop the method of earlier concrete quality control and its system, which evaluate the concrete 28 days strength in concrete. And this study establishes the general equation for the prediction of 28 days strength from the results of the earlier test. Also the method adopted ultras-onic velocity and electric resistivity as specific characters. This study proposed the method, the general equation, and the system for earlier concrete strength evaluation so that we may achieve convenient and quick quality controls.

      • 충남대학교 기초과학분야의 효율적 육성에 관한 연구

        Chungnam National University (CNU) is located in Daeduk Science Town, a center of science and technology in Korea, and it is expected to play an important role in the development of science in Korea. With this in mind, the basic natural sciences at CNU should be more actively supported in both education and research. Accordingly analysis and comparison of the basic science program at major college in Korea as well as those in the USA and Europe has been performed. The current cooperative relationship between CNU and research institutes in the science town has also been analyzed. This study has resulted in propositions to make more efficient the upbringing of the basic sciences at CNU, by focusing on the following points ; a) to improve academic affairs, b) to make graduate studies substantial, c) to secure highly qualified faculty members, d) to increase cooperation in research between CNU and reserch institutes, e) to enlarge research laboratories and acquire more equipment and facilities.

      • 슈미트햄머의 반발도 및 초음파속도에 미치는 결합재의 영향

        This paper reports the influence of kinds of cement and replacing ratio of fly ash(FA) and blast furnace slag powder(BS) on estimation of compressive strength by non-destructive test. According to the results, the compressive strength, the rebound value of schmidt hammer and ultrasonic pulse velocity show the higher value in order of AMC, UHC and OPC. In concrete replaced with mineral admixture, they are lower at early age, but higher at the age of 91 days compared with plain concrete. As the influence of the kinds of cement, estimated compressive strength by Schmidt hammer is almost same in the case of UHC, but much lower at the same rebound value in the case of AMC, in comparison with OPC. But the influence of mineral admixture is very insignificant. Compressive strength estimated by ultrasonic pulse velocity method shows the higher value by 10MPa, 12.5MPa in the case of UHC and AMC respectively compared with OPC, and the influence of mineral admixture on ultrasonic pulse velocity is insignificant.

      • 아산시 5대 저수지의 오염부하량 산정을 통한 수질오염 요인분석

        Five great reservoirs located in Asan city (Gungpyeong, Gahye, Togo, Masan, Bongjae) for each of the inflow of water pollutants (biochernical oxygen demand (BOD), suspended solids (SS), total nitrogen (T-P), total phosphorus (T- P) in units of pollutant loads were calculated by estimating. The results were as follows; The ratio of livestock wastewater for BOD, SS, T-N and T-P were occupied with the 58.7%, 85.4%, 59.1% and 91.2%, respectively of total water pollution load in the reservoir Gungpyeong. The ratio of livestock wastewater for BOD, SS, T-N and T-P were occupied with the 96.1%, 97.6%, 96.2% and203rmb 99.5%, respectively of total water pollution load in the reservoir Gahye. The ratio of livestock wastewater for BOD, SS, T-N and T-P were occupied with the 93.8%, 96.9%, 91.7% and 98.7%, respectively of tot~l water pollution load in the reservoir Togo. The ratio of livestock wastewater for BOD, SS, T-N and T-P were occupied with the 39.3%, 71.6%, 52.2% and 76.2%, respectively of total water pollution load in the reservoir Masan The ratio of livestock wastewater for BOD, SS, T-N and T-P were occupied with the 96.3%, 98.5%, 96.2% and 99.5%, respectively of total water pollution load in the reservoir Bongjae. Total amounts of each water pollutants was highest in the basin of reservoir Bongjae and the next Gahye, Togo, Masan. Reservoir Gungpyeong was lowest in five reservoirs located in Asan Clty. These results suggest that contamination of the reservoir inflow in Asan city, water pollution management for the reservoirs will be focusing on the livestock wastewater.

      • Urine malondialdehyde and 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine levels as indices of oxidative damage in patients with atopic dermatitis

        Background: The involvement of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of various skin diseases has been suggested. Objectives: Urinary malondialdehyde (MDA) and 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) levels served as indices of oxidative stress. We explored whether MDA and 8-OHdG levels were higher in patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) than controls. We evaluated the optimal cut-off values for 8-OHdG and MDA in diagnosis of atopic dermatitis. We explored the associations among AD severity, and the levels of serum IgE and oxidative products. Methods: Urine samples were obtained from 52 patients and 27 controls. We measured MDA levels (reflecting lipid oxidation) and 8-OHdG levels (reflecting DNA oxidation). Disease severity was assessed using the Scoring of Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) index. Results: The urinary 8-OHdG level was 208.37±145.39 ng/mg Cr in patients and 115.65±63.95 ng/mg Cr in controls. The urinary MDA level was 2.92±1.06 mmol/mg Cr in patients and 2.20±0.54 mmol/mg Cr in controls. Both the urinary 8-OHdG and MDA levels were significantly higher in patients than controls. However, we found no correlation between disease severity or serum IgE, and oxidative product levels. Levels of oxidative products did not differ significantly between children and adolescents and adults, males and females, or patients with intrinsic or extrinsic AD. Conclusion: MDA and 8-OHdG levels were higher in patients than controls. Oxidative stress may be involved in the pathophysiology of the disease.

      • A case of interstitial granulomatous dermatitis in a patient with prostate cancer

        Interstitial granulomatous dermatitis (IGD) is a rare distinct disease, histologically characterized by interstitial infiltrate of histiocytes in the reticular dermis. IGD usually occurs in association with various systemic diseases, such as arthritis, connective disease, hematologic disease, and underlying malignancies. An 82-year-old man presented with asymptomatic multiple erythematous to purpuric irregular shaped patches on the back for 3 weeks. He had a history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, end stage renal disease on hemodialysis, and prostate cancer. Routine laboratory test showed anemia and thrombocytopenia. Histological examination showed interstitial histiocytic infiltration with foci of collagen degeneration in the upper and mid reticular dermis. Interstitial histiocytes were positive with CD68, and alcian blue stain revealed no mucin deposition in the interstitial infiltrate. The patient was diagnosed as IGD. The patient started topical corticosteroids and was scheduled to get regular follow-ups. Herein, we report a rare case of IGD in a patient with prostate cancer.

      • A case of type III hyperlipoproteinemia presenting as palmar crease xanthoma in a 10-year-old boy

        Type Ⅲ hyperlipoproteinemia is characterized by elevation of total cholesterol, triglyceride, cholesterol-enriched very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and β-VLDL. Diagnosis is supported by demonstrating homozygosity for Apo E2, lipid profile, and documentation of dysbetalipoproteinemia. Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and xanthomatosis are the main clinical manifestations of type Ⅲ hyperlipoproteinemia. Palmar crease xanthoma are considered to be virtually pathognomonic for type Ⅲ hyperlipoproteinemia. A 10-year-old boy presented with asymptomatic multiple yellowish stria on the intertriginous area and yellowish papules on the elbows and knees, which were found a few months ago. Laboratory test showed total cholesterol level of 550 mg/dL, triglyceride (TG) level of 729 mg/dL, low density lipoprotein (LDL) level of 87 mg/dL and high density lipoprotein level of 36mg/dL. Lipoprotein electrophoresis showed pre-beta fractions of 63.2% (normal 2.0-31.2%). A skin biopsy taken from the yellowish striae on the left antecubital fossa showed foamy cells, macrophages that have engulfed lipid droplet, and fibrosis in the dermis. Genotyping revealed the patient to be homozygous Apo E2/2 alleles. Herein, we report a rare case of type Ⅲ hyperlipoproteinemia in a child.

      • A case of cutaneous myxoma accompanied with pilomatricoma

        Solitary cutaneous myxomas are uncommon benign tumors that are typically presented either as a solitary lesion or as a component of Carney complex. Solitary cutaneous myxomas have rarely been associated with other cutaneous tumors. A 13-year-old Korean male patient presented with well-defined slowly enlarging soft erythematous asymptomatic nodule on the upper back in 6 months’ duration. During the biopsy procedure, we found that there was a palpable deeply seated firm nodule under the soft nodule. Histopathologic examination demonstrated that the superficial soft nodular lesion is a superficial cutaneous myxoma with underlying pilomatricoma. The patient did not show any further evidence of Carney complex through clinical examination. Herein, we report a case of an unusual and unique association of superficial cutaneous myxoma with pilomatricoma.
