The present study is carried out for investigation of capture performance of the hood system with swirl fan. In order to analyze the vortex flow around swirl fan, one swirl fan with swirl guide is considered. The standard k-e model is used to consider the turbulent effect around hood system. In order to reduce the computational time and memory storage, cyclic boundary condition is applied. For the numerical simulation, MRF(Multi-Reference Frame) method is used to consider rotating operation of the swirl fan.

The Over-The-Range(OTR) which is a microwave-hood combination includes a ventilation and cooking system. The ventilation system removes fumes and moisture generated in the main cooking device during the cooking process. However, the OTR has a low capture efficiency for a variety of reasons. The room ventilation system is one of the main effects to decrease the capture efficiency. In this paper, the performance and installation conditions of the OTR has been studied to investigate the effect of room ventilation system on the capture efficiency using numerical analysis.

There have been many cases when an air curtain installed in the apartment could not remove the gases well, such as carbon dioxide and particles like as smoke, oils, and vapors generated during cooking to disperse pollutants into the room. This study used a numerical analysis to show how the pollutant-removing performance of the range hood is changed when the air curtain is installed front of the kitchen table. The result of this study was that when the air amount supplied by an air curtain through the slot was about 50% of the exhaust amount, the capturing efficiency of the range hood for pollutants increased 90% more than without an air curtain. Even when the amount of supplied air was small, the capturing efficiency improved markedly with the use of an upward air curtain. In case that the air flow rate of the slot was greater than 60%, the capturing efficiency decreased.
FOG Droplet과 석탄분진 입자의 충돌 부착에 의한 비산 저감에 관한 연구

A coal dust scattered from storage and transfer facilities of coal power plant is led to a air pollution. It is difficult to reduce some scattered coal dust by used filter system such as bag filter and electric precipitator because of being scattered in the large area. The need to cut down coal dust generation has been increased as being reinforced regulation to reduce dust from coal power plant. So this is a experimental basic study which reduces coal dust generation. This study is to reduce scattering rate of the coal dust by collision and interception between fine fog droplet and coal dust particles. The reducing rate of coal dust is evaluated by droplet size of 10㎛ sprayed. It is evaluated that capture efficiency is lower as a coal dust concentration become higher. And also it is increase as droplet size is decrase and droplet density is increase. It is resulted that coal dust coefficient to optimize the fog system design is 25μg/m3/l/hr and capture efficiency of coal dust is about 80%.

When oil is used for cooking in detached or apartment houses, large amounts of oil-mist, smoke, and particulate substances are generated and dispersed into the indoor-air environment. These pollutants diffuse into the surroundings and spread their odor while rising fast at a high temperature due to the heat energy from the gas range. Although the exhaust gas is discharged from the exhaust hood, which is installed on the top of a gas range to remove the diffuse pollutants, the exhaust conditions can vary greatly because they depend on the shape of the exhaust hood and the discharge rate. In this paper, the air that is required for the gas-exhaustion process is supplied by an air curtain that surrounds the kitchen hood, and the pollutant-capturing efficiency varies depending on the angle of the discharge grills; the pollutant-capturing efficiency was studied using a numerical-analysis method. The results indicate that the pollutant-capturing efficiency is not significantly changed by a change of the discharge-grill angle at a low air-discharge rate; however, at a high air-discharge rate, the efficiency value increases with an increase of the discharge-grill angle, whereby the best value occurs at 30 degrees and the efficiency decreases above this angle. Below 30 degrees, the effect of the discharge rate on the capturing efficiency is more than that of the discharge-grill angle.

As a result of the study, it turned out that, when the air amount supplied by air curtain through the slot was about 60% of exhaust amount, the capturing efficiency of range hood for pollutants increased by 70~80% more than the case without the air curtain. Even when the exhaust amount was small, the capturing efficiency was improved a lot with the use of air curtain. In case that the air flow velocity of slot was greater than 2 m/s, the capturing efficiency turned out to decrease.
유도공기 및 에어커튼을 이용한 주방 레인지후드 성능 개선에 관한 수치모사

In an apartment house that is generally air-tight and well insulated, the combustion gas from cooking devices is the major source of air pollution in the kitchen. It spreads throughout the house affecting the overall indoor air quality. In this study, the performance of the kitchen range hood which employs air induction and air curtain was investigated by numerical simulation. The results are compared with that of two other kitchen range hoods which are in general use. The two general types of range hoods considered in the present calculations are box and plate type range hoods. The former has a large capture space between the filter and suction duct, while the latter has little. It was found that the capture efficiency of the kitchen range hood with air induction and air curtain is higher than that of the general types of range hoods by 20% approximately. The reason may be because the air induction and the air curtain block the air stream escaping from the front and the side part of range hoods effectively and because an additional fan for air induction and air curtain increases suction flow rates.
