Vol.22 No.4

This study examined the causal relationship between the Chinese preference for Korean cultural products (Korean talent, K-pop songs, TV dramas, and movies), for Korean fashion products, and their purchase intentions. The relationship between the Korea`s national brand image and Chinese fashion leadership with the three variables was investigated. Data was collected from 580 Chinese in Dalian, China. The data was analyzed using frequency, correlations, reliability, and AMOS for path analysis. The results of this study were as follows. First, the preference for Korean talent, K-pop songs, TV dramas, movies, and fashion products showed that the Chinese had a positive response and the degree of preference for each item was similar. Second, the Chinese preference for Korean talent, movies, and TV dramas significantly influenced the preference for Korean fashion products. In addition, the Chinese preference for Korean fashion products significantly influenced the purchase intentions of Korean fashion products. Third, the Chinese preference for Korean talent and fashion products had a significant relationship with their fashion leadership. In addition, the preference for Korean talent, movies, TV dramas, K-pop songs, fashion products, and purchase intentions had the same positive relationship with Korea`s national brand images. This study examined from a structural aspect how the preference of Korean intangible cultural products affected the purchase intention of Korean fashion products. This study explored that the preference for Korean cultural products transcended the popularity of the Korean popular culture with a subsequent national industrial and economic ripple effect that improved the national brand image.

This study aimed to clarify the relationships among the characteristics of consumers and their influence on fashion leadership. Two kinds of variables were investigated in this study: centrality of visual product aesthetics and consumer innovativeness as personal characteristics, and role-relaxed consumption and consumer susceptibility to interpersonal influence as interpersonal characteristics. Data were gathered by surveying university students in the Seoul metropolitan area, using convenience sampling, and 322 questionnaires were used in the statistical analysis. In analyzing data, correlation analysis, factor analysis, and regression analysis were conducted. Factor analysis on the centrality of visual product aesthetics revealed three sub-factors: value, acumen, and response intensity. Meanwhile, factor analysis for consumer susceptibility to interpersonal influence revealed two sub-factors: informative and normative conformities. However, consumer innovativeness, role-relaxed consumption, and fashion leadership revealed only one factor. Regression analysis showed that visual product aesthetics, especially acumen and response intensity, were the most influential factors; furthermore, consumer innovativeness and normative conformity had positive influence on fashion leadership. However, role-relaxed consumption had negative influence on fashion leadership.

This study locates factors that affect the intention to use fashion SNS (social network service) and intention for word-of-mouth on fashion SNS. Independent variables were fashion shopping orientation, attitude toward innovative products, fashion leadership, and demographics. A questionnaire method was used to collect data on college students while factor analyses, multiple regression, χ2 analyses, and Pearson correlation coefficients were applied in analyzing data. Factor analyses resulted in four factors for fashion shopping orientation, three on attitude toward innovative products and two on fashion leadership. Multiple regression analyses showed that information compatibility of attitude toward innovative products had a significant impact on two models of intention to use fashion SNS and two models of intention for word-of-mouth on fashion SNS. Opinion leadership and gender were significant factors for two models of intention to use fashion SNS, which means that women are likely to have more intention to use fashion SNS. Meanwhile, fashion innovativeness was found to be a significant factor on two models of intention for word-of-mouth on fashion SNS. Shopping orientation factors were not important for any model. χ2 analyses showed that women rather than men wanted more information on online fashion shows, general fashion information, and user participation programs. Fashion major students wanted more information on online fashion shows and user participation programs than non-fashion major students.
