Candida rugosa lipase (CRL) is one of the most widely used lipases. To enhance the catalytic abilities of CRL in both aqueous and non-aqueous phases, hollow silica microspheres (HSMSs) with a pore size of 18.07 nm were used as an immobilization support, and aldehydecontaining dextrans were employed to further cross-link the adsorbed CRL. In the experimental ranges examined, the loading amount of lipase linearly increased to 171 ±3.4 mgprotein/gsupport with the CRL concentration and all the adsorption equilibriums were reached within 30 min. After simple cross-linking, the tolerance to pH 4.0 ~ 8.0 as well as the thermal stability of immobilized CRL at 40 ~ 80oC were both substantially increased, and 82 ± 2.1% activity remaining after the sixth reuse. The immobilized CRL was successfully applied to the resolution of racemic ibuprofen in non-aqueous phase. The initial reaction rate increased by 1.4- and 3.6-fold compared with the rates of adsorbed and native lipases, respectively. Furthermore, the R-ibuprofen was obtained at ee > 93%, and the enantiomeric ratio reached E > 140 at the conversion of 50 ± 1.5% within 48 h.
Antitumor Effects of Hyperthermic CO2 Pneumoperitoneum on Human Gastric Cancer Cells
Zhou, Hou-Min,Feng, Bo,Zhao, Hong-Chao,Zheng, Min-Hua Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.1
Aim: To elucidate the effects of hyperthermic $CO_2$ pneumoperitoneum on human gastric AGS cells. Methods: Based on a newly devised in vitro study model, we evaluated the anti-cancer effects of HT-$CO_2$ ($42-44^{\circ}C$ for 2-4h) on human gastric cancer cells, and also the corresponding mechanisms. Results: HT-$CO_2$ ($42-44^{\circ}C$ for 2-4h) severely inhibited cell proliferation as assessed by Cell Counting Kit-8 assay, while inducing apoptosis in a temperature- and time-dependent manner demonstrated by annexin-V/PI flow cytometry and morphological analysis (Hoechst/PI fluorescence). In addition, it was found that HT-$CO_2$ ($42-44^{\circ}C$ for 2-4h) promoted the up-regulation of Bax by western blotting. Significantly, it could also suppress gastric cancer cell invasion and metastasis by in vitro invasion and motility assay. Conclusion: In conclusion, HT-$CO_2$ had an efficacious cytotoxic effect on gastric cancer cells through Bax-induced mitochondrial apoptotic signaling. Our studies indicate that it may serve as a potential therapy for peritoneal carcinomatosis of gastric cancer. Further investigations in vivo using animal models are now urgently needed.
Cortical Depression and Potentiation: Basic Mechanisms for Phantom Pain
Min Zhou 한국뇌신경과학회 2012 Experimental Neurobiology Vol.21 No.4
People experience the feeling of the missing body part long after it has been removed after amputation are known as phantom limb sensations. These sensations can be painful, sometimes becoming chronic and lasting for several years (or called phantom pain). Medical treatment for these individuals is limited. Recent neurobiological investigations of brain plasticity after amputation have revealed new insights into the changes in the brain that may cause phantom limb sensations and phantom pain. In this article, I review recent progresses of the cortical plasticity in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), a critical cortical area for pain sensation, and explore how they are related to abnormal sensory sensations such as phantom pain. An understanding of these alterations may guide future research into medical treatment for these disorders.

<P>Two porphyrin sensitizers, SGT-023 and SGT-025, were synthesized through acceptor structural engineering. SGT-023 was designed by replacing the commonly used benzothiadiazole (BTD) unit in the well-known platform of D-porphyrin-triple bond-BTD-acceptor sensitizers (<I>e.g.</I>, SM315 and SGT-021) with a pyridothiadiazole unit as a stronger electron-withdrawing group. As for SGT-025, an additional ethynylene bridge was inserted into the acceptor part of the well-known skeleton of D-porphyrin-triple bond-BTD-acceptor sensitizers. The impact of the auxiliary acceptors on the optical, electrochemical, and photovoltaic properties was investigated and compared with a benchmark dye, SGT-021, developed by our group. Consequently, both porphyrin sensitizers could red-shift the absorption range and downshift the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy level, which was supposed to achieve higher light harvest efficiency (LHE). Under standard global AM 1.5G solar light conditions, SGT-025 attained a relatively high maximum power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 11.0%, which was slightly lower than that of the reference dye SGT-021 (12.6%), and a moderate PCE of 5.6% was obtained by SGT-023. The main reason is the lower charge collection efficiency, which can be attributed to the tilted dye adsorption mode on TiO2. This may allow for faster charge recombination which eventually leads to lower <I>J</I>sc, <I>V</I>oc and PCE.</P>

Versicolols A and B (1 and 2), two rareprenylated isocoumarin derivatives, along with five knownisocoumarins (3–7) were isolated from the fermentationproducts of an endophytic fungus Aspergillus versicolor. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of extensivespectroscopic analysis, including 1D- and 2D-NMR techniques. Compounds 1 and 2 were evaluated for their cytotoxicityagainst five human tumor cell lines. The resultsshowed that compounds 1 exhibited weak cytotoxicityagainst A549 and MCF7 cells with IC50 values of 9.4 and8.8 lm, and compound 2 exhibited weak cytotoxicityagainst SHSY5Y and MCF7 cells with IC50 values of 8.2and 6.8 lm, respectively.
A Single-phase Buck-boost AC-AC Converter with Three Legs
Zhou, Min,Sun, Yao,Su, Mei,Li, Xing,Liu, Fulin,Liu, Yonglu The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2018 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.13 No.2
This paper proposes a single-phase buck-boost AC-AC converter. It consists of three legs with six switching units (each unit is composed of an active switch and a diode) and its input and output ports share a common ground. It can provide buck-boost voltage operation and immune from shoot-through problem. Since only two switching units are involved in the current paths, the conduction losses are low, which improves the system efficiency. The operation principle of the proposed circuit is firstly presented, and then, various operation conditions are introduced to achieve different output voltages with step-changed frequencies. Additionally, the parameters design and comparative analysis of the power losses are also given. Finally, experimental results verify the correctness of the proposed converter.

The historical turbulence between China and Japan started from the First Sino-Japanese War in 1895, and culminated in Japan's invasion of China during World War Two (the Second Sino-Japanese War) between 1937 and 1945. A series of wars caused huge human and material losses in both countries, and both experienced comprehensive transformations during and after the wars. The impact of this historical turbulence is so long-lasting that it still influences both countries' social psyche. Moreover, it continues casting a long shadow upon the current Sino-Japanese relations. The recent turbulence in Sino-Japanese relations partly stems from the historical turbulence. It is much less violent but can also be emotional and worrisome. It started from the early 1980s (the Japanese history textbook controversy in 1982 and the 1985 anti-Japanese student protests in China), and culminated in the anti-Japanese mass demonstrations in multiple Chinese cities in 2005 (Bush 2010; Gries 2005; Reilly 2012; Stockmann 2010; Weiss 2008). In addition to dramatic demonstrations on streets, there are also other forms of movements, such as war reparations movements, in which Chinese war victims demand reparations from the Japanese state and companies (Rose 2005; Xu and Fine 2010; Xu and Pu 2010). Although the tension has existed for many years and surfaced from time to time, the eruption of the nationwide anti-Japanese movements in China in 2005 still shocked many outside observers. Many scholars have tried to explain the anti-Japanese sentiment within current Chinese society that underlies and drives these social movements. Through careful reexamination of the existing literature, this article proposes an explanation for the anti-Japanese sentiment from a perspective that stresses the shifting state-society interaction in China's Japan policy. Specifically, the totalitarian Chinese state's neglect and suppression of genuine social concerns regarding Japan in earlier years, followed by a relatively liberalized state that tolerates societal participation in Sino-Japanese relations, are an importance source of the anti-Japanese sentiment recently observed in China.
