        Rapid adsorption of cobalt (II) by 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane modified halloysite nanotubes

        The adsorption of cobalt (II) by 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTS) modified halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) was studied. The modified halloysite was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), XRay diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetry (TG). In addition, a batch method was used to study the adsorption behavior and the mechanism of removal Co (II) by modified HNTs; the effective factors influencing the adsorption process including adsorbent concentration, contact time, initial pH, temperature and the initial concentration of Co (II) have been investigated. The results showed that the APTS was successfully grafted on the HNTs surface. The modified HNTs exhibited rapid adsorption speed, which reached the adsorption equilibrium within 30 min. The adsorption capacity of the adsorbent increased significantly with the increase of pH. The adsorption data of Co (II) on the modified HNTs are well consistent with the Langmuir model and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model.

        Removal of UO2 2+ from aqueous solution using halloysite nanotube-Fe3O4 composite

        Halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) were modified with Fe3O4 to form novel magnetic HNTs-Fe3O4 composites, and the composites were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The as-obtained results indicated that Fe3O4 nanoparticles were successfully installed on the surface of HNTs. The adsorption of UO2 2+ on HNTs-Fe3O4 was investigated as a function of solid content, contact time, pH, ionic strength and temperature by batch experiments. The consequences revealed that the adsorption of UO2 2+ onto HNTs-Fe3O4 was strongly dependent on pH and ionic strength. Equilibrium data fitted well with the Langmuir isotherm. The experimental results demonstrated that the adsorbents with HNTs-Fe3O4 had the largest adsorption capacity of 88.32mg/g for UO2 2+.

        Research on reliability analytical method of complex system based on CBN model

        Considering that there are often many variables correlated to each other in complex system, copula functions are introduced into reliability analysis. While with the increase of variables, the dimension of copula function will be high. For the above problems, Bayesian network (BN) is introduced into reliability analysis and a copula Bayesian network (CBN) model is proposed. Taking driving system of new rail mounted container gantry (NRMG) as an example, Gaussian copula and t-copula are used and compared in the process of generating correlation data. Additionally, in order to construct local copula function between parent and descendent nodes, Gumbel and Clayton copulas are compared based on Akaike information criterion. Finally, the reliability inference based on CBN model is performed. Compared with BN model, the rationality of CBN model is verified, and the results show that the reliability calculated by CBN model is smaller, which will put forward higher requirements for the driving system.

        Effect of pH, ionic strength, foreign ions, humic acid and temperature on Zn(II) sorption onto γ-Al2O3

        The sorption of Zn(II) on γ-alumina was investigated as a function of contact time, pH, ionic strength,foreign ions, solid amount, humic acid (HA) and temperature by using batch technique. The results indicated that thesorption of Zn(II) onto γ-alumina was strongly dependent on pH and ionic strength. The sorption of Zn(II) increasedslowly with increasing pH at pH 2-5, then increased sharply with pH increasing from 5 to 8.5, and at last maintaineda maximum value at pH>8.5. A positive effect of HA on Zn(II) sorption was found at pH<7, whereas a negative effectwas observed at pH>7. The thermodynamic data (ΔG0, ΔS0, ΔH0) were calculated from the temperature-dependentsorption isotherms, and the results suggested that the sorption of Zn(II) on γ-alumina was endothermic and spontaneous. The sorption results revealed that the γ-alumina can be as a cost-effective sorbent for pre-concentration of Zn(II) fromlarge volumes of aqueous solutions in environmental pollution cleanup.

        Plasma grafting montmorillonite/iron oxide composite with β-cyclodextrin and its application for high-efficient decontamination of U(VI)

        b-Cyclodextrin (CD) was grafted onto montmorillonite/iron oxides to prepare a novel magnetic CD/MMT/iron oxide composite by low-temperature plasma technology, and applied to remove U(VI) from aqueous solutions. The sorption irreversibility was attributed to inner-sphere binding of U(VI) on CD/MMT/iron oxide surface sites. The thermodynamic parameters indicated that the sorption of U(VI) on CD/MMT/iron oxide was an endothermic and spontaneous process. The maximum sorption capacity of U(VI) on CD/MMT/iron oxide was considerably higher than that of U(VI) on other reported materials. The CD/MMT/iron oxide can be potentially used as a cost-effective material for the purification of actual U(VI)-bearing effluents.
