      • Wave propagation analysis of the ball in the handball’s game

        It is a recent attraction to the mechanical scientists to investigate state of wave propagation, buckling and vibration in the sport balls to observe the importance of different parameters on the performance of the players and the quality of game. Therefore, in the present study, we aim to investigate the wave propagation in handball game ball in term of mass of the ball and geometrical parameters wit incorporation of the viscoelastic effects of the ball material into account. In this regard, the ball is modeled using thick shell structure and classical elasticity models is utilized to obtain the equation of motion via Hamilton’s principle. The displacement field of the ball model is obtained using first order shear deformation theory. The resultant equations are solved with the aid of generalized differential quadrature method. The results show that mass of the ball and viscoelastic coefficient have considerable influence on the state of wave propagation in the ball shell structure.

        Nrf2 in adipocytes

        White adipocytes play a key role in maintainingwhole body energy homeostasis by forming white adiposetissue (WAT). The impairment of WAT formation or WATdysfunction is clearly associated with severe metabolic disorders. Mature adipocytes are derived from differentiatedpreadipocytes and are pivotal in energy storage and metabolism. Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) isa member of a family of CNC-bZIP proteins which exerttheir transcriptional control on genes harboring antioxidantresponse elements (ARE) in partnership with smallmusculoaponeurotic fibrosarcoma proteins. The activationof Nrf2-ARE coordinated by specific repressor Kelch-likeECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1) regulates networks ofgenes controlling diverse homeostatic processes involvingadaptive antioxidant response and detoxification amongmany other adaptive responses. Interestingly, accumulatingevidence indicates that Nrf2 may act as a transcription factorin regulating the formation and function of adipose tissues,including adipogenesis, lipid metabolism and insulin sensitivity. In this mini-review, an overview on the distinct rolesof Nrf2 in adipocytes is provided. While highlighting the regulatory role of Nrf2 in adipogenesis, recent key findingson Nrf2 in insulin signal transduction and energy metabolismof adipocytes are also summarized.

        Estrogen promotes the onset and development of idiopathic scoliosis via disproportionate endochondral ossification of the anterior and posterior column in a bipedal rat model

        This study aimed to verify the effects of estrogen on the onset and development of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis and the mechanisms associated with these effects by constructing a pubescent bipedal rat model. Experiments were conducted to investigate whether scoliosis progression was prevented by a Triptorelin treatment. One hundred twenty bipedal rats were divided into female, OVX (ovariectomy), OVX + E2, Triptorelin, sham, and male groups. According to a spinal radiographic analysis, the scoliosis rates and curve severity of the female and OVX + E2 groups were higher than those in the OVX, Triptorelin, and male groups. The measurements obtained from the sagittal plane of thoracic vertebrae CT confirmed a relatively slower growth of the anterior elements and a faster growth of the posterior elements between T11 and T13 in the female and OVX + E2 groups than in the OVX and Triptorelin groups. Histomorphometry and immunohistochemistry revealed a significantly longer hypertrophic zone of the vertebral cartilage growth plates that expressed more type X collagen and less type II collagen in the OVX and Triptorelin groups than in the female and OVX + E2 groups. Ki67 immunostaining confirmed an increase in the proliferation of vertebral growth plate chondrocytes in the OVX group compared with the female and OVX + E2 groups. In conclusion, estrogen obviously increased the incidence of scoliosis and curve severity in pubescent bipedal rats. The underlying mechanism may be a loss of coupling of the endochondral ossification between the anterior and posterior columns. Triptorelin decreased the incidence of scoliosis and curve magnitudes in bipedal female rats. Introduction Adolescent

        Integrated expression and general optimisation method of bucket shape line of backhoe hydraulic excavator

        The bucket shape of a hydraulic excavator influences its excavating performance and is determined by its shape line. In this study, the inner surface line projected on the symmetrical plane of the bucket was adopted as the bucket shape line, and the value ranges of the main parameters for the shape line were investigated. By considering the centre of the arc at the bucket bottom as the origin, the Cartesian coordinate system was established, and the integrated equation of the bucket line was derived based on the geometric constraints related to the shape line. A general optimisation model of the bucket line was established using the integrated equation. The effects of four design variables on the optimisation goal were determined using the bucket of a 21 T excavator as an example, and the optimal shape line of the bucket was obtained using a genetic algorithm. The results indicated that the cutting angle decreased by 9.92 % in comparison with that before optimisation, which was beneficial in decreasing the digging resistance. Additionally, the aspect ratio decreased by 5.75 %, thereby reducing the bucket weight. Thus, the integrated expression and the optimisation of shape lines provide a general method and theoretical basis for optimising the bucket shape.

        Therapeutic effects of traditional Chinese medicine (Maxingshigan-Weijing Decoction) on COVID-19: An open-label randomized controlled trial

        Background Wenzhou has achieved great progress in the prevention and control of the growing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has played an indispensable role in this fight. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of Maxingshigan-Weijing decoction (MWD) in treating infected patients. Methods This study was an open-label randomized controlled trial. Inpatients with mild or moderate symptoms caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection were randomly treated with routine supportive care alone or a combination of routine supportive care and MWD. The primary outcome was the rate of symptom (fever, fatigue, cough and difficulty breathing) recovery. Results Fifty-nine inpatients were enrolled, of whom 29 received routine supportive care alone (control group) and 30 received combination therapy (treatment group). The rate of symptom recovery was significantly higher in the treatment group than in the control group. The time to recovery of fever (3 vs. 7 days), fatigue (9 vs. 12 days), coughing (9 vs. 14 days) and difficulty breathing (4.5 vs. 9.5 days) was also significantly shorter in the treatment group (all p < 0.001). The syndrome score was lower after MWD treatment. However, neither group differed in the viral assay findings, hospitalization days, medication time or the rate of conversion to severe cases. Conclusions MWD increased the rate of symptom recovery and shortened the time to recovery of clinical symptoms without deterioration to death or critical care. These findings may provide opportunities for the use of complementary medicine in treating this infection. Clinical trial registration Chinese Clinical Trial Registry, ChiCTR2000030759.
