        재두루미에서 Parathion 중독증 발생

        The toxicity of organophosphate is due to the disruption of the nervous system of birds through the inhibition of cholinesterase enzymes. Two dead white-napped cranes (Grus vipio) was found at Cholwon which is the most popular wintering site in Korea, and submitted to National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Service for diagnosis. Gross examinations revealed no evidence of any specific disease condition. Histopatholgically, only one bird incidentally had multifocal necrotizing hepatitis with intranuclear inclusion bodies in the liver which was considered to be Inclusion Body Disease of cranes. The contents of gastrointestinal tracts of the birds contained residues of parathion ranged as 67.4 and 42.1 ppm respectively, using by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. Based on these evidences, parathion was responsible for the cranes mortality.

      • Relationship between Meteorological Elements and Yield of Hot Pepper in Yeosu Area of Korea

        This study was conducted to investigate the relationships between yearly variations of meteorological elements and yearly variations of productivity in hot pepper. In addition, correlation coefficients among the yields and yield components were used to find out the relationships between meteorological elements and productivity. Yearly variation of the mean air temperature in May and July showed large with coefficients of variation(C.V.) of 25.0,8.9%, respectively, but the variation of the duration of sunshine in May were relative small. Yield and plant height was greatly with C.V. of 7.14,11.6%, respectively, diameter of fruit showed more or less C.V. of 2.28% and length of fruit showed less variation. Correlation coefficients between maximum temperature in period of cultivation from May and yield are positively significant at the level of 1 %. Correlation Coefficients between precipitation in period of cultivation from May to August and yield are negative significant at the level of 5 and 1 %, respectively. Correlation coefficients amount the plant height, length of fruit, diameter of fruit per plant, and seed yield were positively significant at the level of 1 %, respectively.

      • Yield of Rice Affected by Meteorological Elements in Yeosu Area of Korea

        This study was conducted to investigate the relationships between yearly variations of meteorological elements and yearly variations of productivity in rice. In addition, correlation coefficients among yield and yield components were used to find out the relationships between meteorological elements and productivity. Yearly variation of the mean air temperature in May was large with coefficients of variation(C.V.) of 25.0%, but the variation of the duration of sunshine in May were relative small. No. of panicles per hill and 1,000 grains wt. of brown rice were great with C.V. of 21.1, 19.7%, respectively, brown rice yield show more or less C.V. of 5.5% and milled rice show still less variation. Correlation coefficients between temperatures in period of cultivation from May and yield were positive correlations. Correlation Coefficients between precipitation in period of cultivation from Sep. to Oct. and yield are positive correlations. Correlation coefficients amount the panicle length, no. of panicles, no. of spikelets, ratio of ripened grains, 1,000 grains wt. of brown rice, milled rice yield, brown rice yield and milled rice yield were positively significant at the level of 1 %, respectively.

      • 가스터빈 열병합용 폐열회수 보일러의 열설계 및 해석

        In this study a computer program has been developed to analyze the thermal and hydraulic performance of waste heat recovery boilers. Using the program developed in this study, the thermal and hydraulic performance data of a 3T/hr boiler are obtained for 100%, 75%, 50% and 25% loads. The results include the expected steam capacity, the local gas/water temperatures, and gas side pressure drop etc. For 100% load, comparison of the current results with those obtained from existing boiler code show fairly good agreements.

        한국 재래산양에서 Bovine Viral Diarrhea, Bovine Herpesvirus-1, Parainfluenza Type-3 바이러스에 대한 혈청학적 연구

        The 948 goat sera were serologically tested for ten pathogens including bovine viral diarrhea (BVD), bovine herpes virus type-1 (BHV-1) and parainfluenza virus type-3 (PI-3). By viral neutralizaion test, three pathogens including BVD virus, BHV-1, PI-3 were applied for screening each neutralizing antibody and its titration. Among 948 sera, there were 215 seropositives (22.7%) against BVD virus, 25 (2.6%) against BHV-1 virus, and 161 (17.0%) against PI-3 virus, respectively. In the seropositive cases to BVD virus, provincial prevalence of them were recorded as Gyeongnam(30.8%) for the highest one, while as Jeonbuk (15.8%) and Gyeongbuk(l6.7%) relatively for the lower ones. Among them, higher than 1:8 in antibody titration was classified as 74 cases (34.4%) which were suspected the cycle of its infection in their herds. Among the seropositives to BHV-1, it was relatively lower prevalence rate ranging from 1.7% to 6.7% that those of BVD virus and PI-3, but more importantly they were prevailing across the country. Most of the seropositive cases (42.9%) to PI-3 were classified as 1:4-1:16 in titration, but also distributed all around the country. The prevalence in goats varied according to areas (15.8 to 30.8%). Related to the provincial prevalence of three viral agents in Korean goats, it seemed that three viral pathogens would be directly or indirectly involving in various disorders as primary or secondary causative agents resulting in decreased productivity.

        한국 재래 산양에서 Leptospira spp.에 대한 혈청역학적 연구

        Between January 1999 and September 2001, 948 sera (120 from each province except 108 from Chungbuk) from 8 provinces were sampled from Korean goats. All the samples were serologically tested for Leptospira spp. By the microscopic agglutination test against four L. interrogans serovars including canicola, icterohaemorrhagiae, pomona and hardjo, 948 Korean goats were confirmed as 11 seropositives (1.2%) only infected with L. icterohemorrhagiae. All positive sera were collected from Gyeonggi (5), Gangwon (4) and Chungbuk (2). Titration of them were classified as 1:100 of 10 sera except one case with 1:200 from Gyeonggi. It was meaningful that the pathogen in Korean goats was mainly distributed in the northen part of the country. Consequently, the results in the study were confirmed and analyzed the recent status of infection of leptospirosisas zoonotic agentsome in Korean goats.

        This is a study on the formal characters of the gate, fence, court focused on the urban detached houses comparing with traditional houses. The elements-gate, fence, court-affect the space of houses. On the planner's point of view, domestic space should be regarded as a field of human activities. The domestic space is divided into the external and the internal space by exterior wall, the external space is defined by a fence. This study is performed by surveying the type, size, function, height of the elements and comparing them with the traditional elements. The results of this survey are as follows. 1) The gate has a meaning of threshold and also has a symbol of separating. 2) The usual meaning of the fence is to defend from stranger and to enclose space and so on. 3) The court is the internal space and has physical as well as psychological effects.

        과학자에 대한 초등학교 일반 학생과 과학 영재반 학생의 인식 비교 분석

        This study was designed to compare the understanding of ordinary elementary school students and scientifically gifted students about scientists. 473 fourth, fifth, and sixth graders in ordinary elementary schools and 40 students attending scientific educational institutions for the gifted were studied with the help of questionnaires and interviews. The survey showed that there were no significant differences between the two subject groups in relation to the external images of scientists. The subjects turned out to have four fixed external images. The scientifically gifted students had a better understanding of the internal images of scientists than ordinary elementary school students. Both the subject groups turned out to be influenced by the press media and off-campus education, thinking that scientists served as inventors producing something useful in daily life rather than as researchers studying natural phenomena or laws. It was found out that both groups admired Edison. The ordinary students respected Einstein and Jang Yeong-Sil whereas the scientifically gifted students respected Curie, Jang Yeong-Sil, and Nobel. The subjects admired them because of their achievements instead of their backgrounds or individual characteristics.

        An outbreak of avian influenza subtype H9N8 among chickens in South Korea

        <P>Low pathogenic avian influenza subtype H9N8 was diagnosed on a Korean native chicken farm in Gyeonggi province, South Korea, in late April 2004. Clinical signs included moderate respiratory distress, depression, mild diarrhoea, loss of appetite and a slightly elevated mortality (1.4% in 5 days). Pathologically, mucopurulent tracheitis and air sacculitis were prominently found with urate renal deposition. The isolated A/chicken/Kr/164/04 (H9N8) had an Ala-Ser-Gly-Arg (A/S/G/R) motif at the cleavage site of haemagglutinin, which has been commonly found in H9N2 isolated from Korean poultry. Phylogenetic analysis of the haemagglutinin and neuraminidase genes of the H9N8 avian influenza virus (AIV) isolate showed that reassortment had occurred. Its haemagglutinin gene was similar to that of Korean H9N2 AIVs, but its neuraminidase gene was closely related to that of A/WBF/Kr/KCA16/03 (H3N8) isolated from the faeces of wild birds in Korea. The pathogenicity of the isolate was tested on 6-week-old specific pathogen free chickens. The inoculated virus (H9N8) was recovered from most tested organs, including the trachea, lung, kidney, spleen, and caecal tonsil. This is the first report of an outbreak of low pathogenic avian influenza in chickens caused by AIV subtype H9N8.</P><P>Un cas d'influenza aviaire faiblement pathogène (LPAI) de sous type H9N8 a été diagnostiqué dans une ferme de poulets indigènes, dans la province de Gyeonggi, en Corée du Sud, en Avril 2004. Les symptômes consistaient en une détresse respiratoire modérée, une diarrhée peu importante, une perte d'appétit et une mortalité légèrement élevée (1,4% en 5 jours). Sur le plan pathologique, une trachéite mucopurulente et une aérosacculite ont été les lésions les plus souvent observées avec un dépôt d'urate au niveau des reins. La souche isolée A/chicken/Kr/164/04 (H9N8) présentait un motif Ala-Ser-Gly-Arg (A/S/G/R) au niveau du site de clivage de l'hémagglutinine (HA) qui a souvent été observé chez les souches H9N2 isolées de volailles en Corée. L'analyse phylogénétique des gènes de HA et de la neuraminidase (NA) de la souche de virus de l'influenza aviaire (AIV) H9N8 a montré qu'il s'était produit un réassortiment. Son gène HA était similaire à celui des AIVs coréens H9N2, mais son gène NA était très proche de celui de la souche A/WBF/Kr/KCA16/03 (H3N8) isolée de fèces d'oiseaux sauvage en Corée. La pathogénicité de l'isolat a été testée chez des poulets exempts de microorganismes pathogènes spécifiés âgés de 6 semaines. Le virus inoculé (H9N8) a été réisolé de la plupart des organes testés incluant la trachée, les poumons, les reins, la rate et les amygdales cæcales. C'est le premier rapport d'un cas de LPAI chez des poulets causé par un AIV de sous type H9N8.</P><P>Im späten April 2004 wurde auf einer koreanischen Farm mit einheimischen Hühnern in der Gyeonggi-Provinz ein schwach pathogenes aviäres Influenzavirus (LPAI) Subtyp H9N8 isoliert. Die klinischen Symptome umfassten geringe Atembeschwerden, Störung des Allgemeinbefindens, milde Diarrhoe, Appetitlosigkeit und eine geringfügig erhöhte Mortalität (1,4 % in 5 Tagen). Pathologisch-anatomisch wurden als herausragende Veränderungen eine mukopurulente Tracheitis und Aerosacculitis sowie renale Harnsäureablagerungen gefunden.
