The voltage source PWM inverter generally used to drive the air conditioning (A/C) fans has been posing a large issue that the bearings in air conditioning fan motors are highly possible to be corroded electrically. Potential difference called shaft voltage is generated between inner and outer rings of the bearings due to inverter switching. The shaft voltage causes bearing lubricant breakdown dielectrically. As a result, bearing current is caused. This current causes the bearing corrosion. In previous work, we demonstrated that the shaft voltage can be reduced by using an insulator inserted between the outer and inner cores of the rotor in an air conditioning fan motor without grounding. This paper proposes the other countermeasure for reducing the shaft voltage in fan motors. The countermeasure which adds a capacitor between the brackets and the stator core is effective even for fan motors with non-insulated rotor. The effectiveness is confirmed by both simulated and experimental results.

Objective To analyze patient characteristics of cancer rehabilitation and outcomes at our hospital.Methods This retrospective study analyzed 580 patients, who underwent cancer rehabilitation at our hospital and rehabilitation outcome after therapy were investigated. The relationship between the initial Barthel index and discharge outcomes was investigated, with a special focus on cancer patients with bone metastasis. The Barthel index and performance status (Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group) before and after rehabilitation were analyzed, and threshold value of home discharge was calculated from a receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC). General criteria for home discharge from our hospital included independence in performing basic activities of daily living such as bathing, feeding, and toileting or availability of home support from a family member/caregiver.Results The outcomes after rehabilitation among all the patients were as follows: discharge home 59%, death 13%, and others 27%. Statistical differences were observed between the initial and final values of the Barthel index in patients with bone metastasis, who could be discharged home (p=0.012). ROC analysis of the initial Barthel index for predicting home discharge revealed a threshold value of 60, sensitivity of 0.76, and specificity of 0.72.Conclusion The patients with bone metastasis had a lower rate of home discharge and a higher rate of mortality than all the study patients who underwent cancer rehabilitation at our hospital. It is proposed that at the time of initiation of rehabilitation for patients with bone metastasis, an initial Barthel index lower than 60 might predict a worse outcome than home discharge.

In 2017, the second national reference standard (NRS) for Gloydius snake venom was established to replace the first NRS for Gloydius snake venom. In connection with the second venom NRS, a candidate for the first NRS for Gloydius snake antivenom was produced in 2017. In this study, the qualification of the candidate was estimated and the potency was determined by a collaborative study. The potency (anti-lethal titer and anti-hemorrhagic titer) of the candidate was determined by measuring the capability of the antivenom to neutralize the lethal and hemorrhagic effects of the second NRS for Gloydius snake venom, which was calibrated against the regional reference standard for Gloydius snake antivenom established in 2006. Two Korean facilities contributed data from 20 independent assays. Subsequently, one foreign national control research laboratories participated in this collaborative study. The general common potency of the anti-lethal and anti-hemorrhagic titers was obtained from the results of a total of 25 tests performed at three facilities. According to the results of the present study, the candidate preparation showed good quality and is judged to be suitable to serve as the first NRS for Gloydius snake antivenom with the following potency: an anti-lethal titer of 3100 unit (U) (95% confidence interval 2991–3276 U) and anti-hemorrhagic titer of 3000 U (95% confidence interval 2849–3159 U). In conclusion, the first NRS for Gloydius snake antivenom was established in this study. This reference standard will be used routinely for quality control of a snake antivenom product by manufacturer in Korea, which also can be used for national quality control, including a national lotrelease test of the snake antivenom product.
