Design and Management of Multi-functional Exclusive Lane for the Integrated Service to Various Vehicles with Priority

        Zhiquan Xie,Hui Jin,Jing Teng,Xiaoguang Yang 대한토목학회 2022 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.26 No.2

Priority to emergency vehicles, buses, high occupancy vehicles (HOVs), and priced low occupancy vehicles (LOVs) is critical to their efficiency and reliability, where multi-functional exclusive lane (MFEL) serves as a salient element with independent operation environment. To enhance MFEL utility and balance the demand between prioritized and non-prioritized vehicles, this research proposes an optimization model for MFEL design and management to comprehensively serve the trip modes with various priority levels and distinct operation patterns, considering the delay from lane access, bus stop dwelling, signalized intersections, and ride-sharing. Case study follows to calibrate and validate the proposed model under varying passenger demand and emergency vehicle frequency, finding that MFEL may reduce total travel time in all scenarios especially under high traffic demand. Sensitivity analyses test the effect of road lane count and bus occupancy on MFEL design and management, where the road with more lanes is more flexible to accommodate increased passenger demand without increasing HOV critical occupancy or LOV price rate. Moreover, higher bus occupancy assists in avoiding significant increase of LOV price rate to promote trip equity. This research may lay foundation to MFEL implementation to mitigate traffic congestion and promote transport sustainability.

      • An Algorithm for Vein Matching Based on Log-polar Transform

        Wei Yan,Jianbin Xie,Peiqin Li,Tong Liu,Xiaoguang Guo 한국산학기술학회 2013 SmartCR Vol.3 No.5

This article discusses a new algorithm for vein matching based on log-polar transform to address problems that occur with the changing of finger position and from differences between imaging devices for current vein matching algorithms. The new algorithm first extracts the feature area, which contains enough characteristics for image matching, depending on the structure of the finger vein ridge alignment. It then calculates the degree of similarity between the log-polar transform results of the model image feature areas and the sample image, and finally analyzes the result by the degree of similarity and the relationship of relative positions between feature areas. Experiments show that the algorithm is robust for rotating and zooming images of the finger vein.

        Characteristics and mechanism of Pb(II) adsorption/desorption on GO/ r-GO under sulfide-reducing conditions

Jianfeng Zhang,Xiaodan Xie,Cheng Liang,Weihuang Zhu,Xiaoguang Meng 한국공업화학회 2019 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.73 No.-

Compared with graphene oxide (GO), r-GO (the reduced form) has a lower adsorption capacity for heavymetal ions and, therefore, generates concern over the release of adsorbed contaminants when GOadsorbent is discharged into a reducing environment. This study reveals that the maximum adsorptioncapacity of Pb(II) on GO and r-GO was 937.65 and 92.99 mg g 1 respectively. GO was reduced to r-GO bysulfide, causing 2.59–6.46% of the adsorbed Pb(II) to be released and was stably dispersed as a Pb(II)-oxidative debris (OD) complex. Our results provide valuable information about heavy metaltransportation in environments containing GO under different redox conditions.

Theoretical Explanation of the Peak Splitting of Tobacco-Specific N-Nitrosamines in HPLC

        Jiang, Juxing,Li, Liangchun,Wang, Mingfeng,Xia, Jianjun,Wang, Wenyuan,Xie, Xiaoguang Korean Chemical Society 2012 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.33 No.5

During the analyzing processes of the compounds, some researchers are puzzled by the analytical signals for some TSNAs (with or without splitting peaks at various pHs and temperatures). In this work, a detailed theoretical study of structural and thermal properties of the $E/Z$ isomers of TSNAs and the corresponding protonated structures was performed using DFT methods. The calculations showed that the $E$ isomers are almost stable than $Z$ isomers, while the $Z$ isomers would be more stable when in protonation. The calculated results predicted the possibility of separation of their $E$ and $Z$ isomer forms and also showed that protonation affects the dipole moment of molecules significantly (0.1-0.5 to 0.7-2.1 Debye). The calculations agreed well with the experiments that the split-up of the HPLC signal for TSNAs into two peaks are very sensitive to the pH and temperature of the mobile-phase.
