        In this study, we tested the influences of several κ opioid ligands on the [<sup>3</sup>H]diprenorphine binding in rat and guinea pig cortex membrane preparations. Using paradigm to block μ and δ opioid receptors with DAMGO(1μM) and DPDPE(1μM), [<sup>3</sup>H]diprenorphine labeled κ sites. Competition analysis in both rat and guinea pig cortex has shown a single population of [<sup>3</sup>H]diprenorphine binding site with different Kd values, respectively. There is a significant difference in Ki values of (-) WIN44441 and (+)WIN44441 in both rat and guinea pig cortex. Bremazocine, (-)ethylketocyclazocine, (-)cyclazocine, nor-binaltorphimine effectively inhibited the [<sup>3</sup>H]diprenorphine binding with different Ki values in rat and guinea pig cortex. U-69,593, U-50,488H and dynorphine-A (1-8) did not inhibit the [<sup>3</sup>H]diprenorphine binding in rat but in guinea pig cortex. Nor-binaltorphimine was a ligand discriminate the κ<sub>1</sub>, and κ<sub>2</sub> receptor most effectively. We, also, examined the influence of Na ion and GTPγS, a nonhydrolyzable guanine nucleotide analog, on the inhibition of [<sup>3</sup>H]diprenorphine binding by diprenorphine, (-)ethyl-ketocyclazocine, U-69,593 and bremazocine. By the replacement of NaCl with N-methy-D-glucamine or addition of GTPγS, Ki values of diprenorpnine were not changed and that of ethylketocyclazocine were changed significantly in both rat and guinea pig cortex. The Ki value of bremazocine was decreased by removal of Na ion, and increased by GTPγS, however, was not changed by any one of either. These results suggest that there are 2 kinds of subtypes of κ opioid receptor, κ<sub>1</sub>, and κ<sub>2</sub>, showing different Ki values for various κ opioid ligands, also, bremazocine possess the antagonistic property at κ<sub>2</sub> site which is dominant subtype of K receptor in rat cortex.

        스마트 미디어 환경의 시각 인터페이스 디자인에 관한 연구

        최근 웹뿐만 아니라 모바일 전반을 아우르며 디지털 디바이스의 사용자 환경(UI :User Interface) 디자인 패러다임이 새롭게 변화하고 있다. 이러한 변화 가운데 디바이스가 다양해지고 콘텐츠들이 많아지면서 사용자들은 타 기기에서도 웹 서비스를 일관성 있게 제공받기를 원하게 되었다. 이에 본 연구에서는 스마트 미디어 환경에 대해 이해하고, 웹사이트 UI디자인 동향을 수집하여 특징을 알아보고, 그에 따라 분류된 레이아웃, 스크롤, 해상도, 그래픽요소, 기술 요소를 기준으로 브랜드, 프로모션, 쇼핑몰, 3가지 유형의 사례 분석을 진행하였다. 그 결과 레이아웃은 콘텐츠가 단순하고 비주얼이 강화된 일반 그리드, 브로슈어 레이아웃과 스마트기기에 적합한 블록 레이아웃의 형태가 나타났다. 스크롤은 전반적으로 태블릿, 폰에 좀 더 적합한 싱글 페이지 구조의 세로 스크롤 사이트가 늘어나고 있음을 알수 있었다. 해상도 반응의 경우 다양한 해상도에 대응하는 반응형 웹사이트가 늘어나고 있고, 그래픽 요소의 경우 직관적이고 신뢰할 수 있는 사진 이미지의 사용이 많았다. 기술적 요소는 스마트 기기에 적합한 html5, jQuery의 적용이 많았고, 세로 스크롤 방식을 통해 마우스 휠이 아닌 넘김 방식으로 스토리에 맞는 모션이 혼합되어 차별화된 경험을 제공했다. 이러한 결과로 도출된 동향을 통해 추후 웹사이트 제작 시기초자료로 활용할 수 있으리라 기대한다. Recently, with the web as well as mobile digital devices, the user experience (UI: User Interface) is a new design paradigm is changing. Among these changes, the device As more users are diverse and content to other devices, in addition to the PC consistently provide Web services were to be won. In this research, a smart media environment for the understanding and design trends by collecting website UI features to learn, and accordingly classified layout, scroll, resolution, design elements, technical elements, based on brand, promotion, shopping malls, three type of case analysis was conducted. As a result, the content, the layout is simple and regular grid with enhanced visuals, brochure layout and is suitable for smart devices in the form of a block layout appeared. Scroll structure as a whole tablet, phones, a more suitable structure of a single-page vertical scroll was found that increasing the site. Resolution corresponding to different resolutions reaction responsive Web sites is growing, graphic elements, the intuitive and reliable use of photographic images respectively. Technology components suitable for the smart devices html5, jQuery application of the common vertical scrolling mouse wheel over the story in a way that meets a non-feed is a mixture of motion were differentiated experience. As a result, the derived trends as a basis for making future web site can use to expect that.

      • Clinical usefulness of infrared thermal imaging as a non-invasive screening test for diagnosis of vascular malformations

        Background: Infrared thermal imaging (ITI), aka thermography, has been used widely in medicine, but been studied rarely its clinical application in vascular malformations (VMs). Objectives: This study investigated validity and usefulness of ITI as a new screening test to differentiate between capillary malformation (CM) and arteriovenous malformation (AVM). Methods: This study included 50 patients with VMs who conducted ITI between 2011 and 2018. They were divided into two groups; CM and AVM, and those with Parkes-Weber syndrome (PWS) were also included in AVM group. Temperature difference (ΔT) between lesional and contralateral non-lesional area was compared using ITI to calculate the maximum ΔT (ΔTmax). The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was then plotted to determine optimal cutoff value of ΔTmax. Results: Of the total 50 patients, 34 were finally diagnosed with CM, and 16 AVM (12 pure AVM, and 4 PWS). AVM group had significantly higher ΔTmax (2.57±1.23°C) than CM group (0.69±0.50°C).The area under the curve of ΔTmax for diagnosis of AVM versus CM was 0.938. The sensitivity and specificity were showed 87.5% and 94.1% (LR+, 14.87; LR-, 0.13) in cutoff value of ΔTmax 1.39°C, and 81.3% and 97.1% (LR+, 27.62; LR-, 0.19) in cutoff value of ΔTmax 1.42°C. Conclusion: The value of ΔTmax measured by ITI was useful to distinguish AVM from CM, so ITI can be employed as a new non-invasive differential screening test for uncertain VMs.

        권역심뇌혈관질환센터 사업의 비용-편익 분석

        Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate economic feasibility of operating Regional Cardiocerebrovascular Centers using cost-benefit analysis. Methods: The current study assessed cost and benefit data collected from nine hospitals which were designated as Regional Cardiocerebrovascular Centers between 2008 and 2010. Results: The operation of Regional Cardiocerebrovascular Centers reduced mortality rate and length of stay due to acute myocardial infarction and stroke and also decreased disability occurred after stroke. The total calculated cost of operating nine Regional Cardiocerebrovascular Centers was 19.85-22.30 billion won and the minimum benefit calculated was 23.98 billion won. Applying the maximum cost and the minimum benefit, the net benefit was 1.68 billion won, which is estimated to 190 million won per Regional Cardiocerebrovascular Center. Conclusions: The present study revealed that the operation of Regional Cardiocerebrovascular Centers was economically beneficial. The benefit would be larger if intangible benefit such as the long-term effects to community hospitals and enhancement of quality of life of patients and their families are considered.

        Minimally Invasive Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion for Adult Spinal Deformity: Clinical and Radiological Efficacy With Minimum Two Years Follow-up

        STUDY DESIGN.: A retrospective cohort study. OBJECTIVE.: To evaluate the clinical and radiological efficacies of supplementing minimally invasive lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF) with open posterior spinal fusion (PSF) in adult spinal deformity (ASD). SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA.: Minimally invasive techniques have been increasingly applied for surgery of ASD. Few reports have been published that directly compare LLIF combined with PSF to conventional PSF for ASD. METHODS.: To evaluate the advantages of minimally invasive LLIF for ASD, patients who underwent minimally invasive LLIF followed by open PSF (combined group) were compared with patients who only underwent PSF (only PSF group). The clinical and radiological outcomes for deformity correction and indirect decompression were assessed. The occurrence of proximal junctional kyphosis (PJK) and proximal junctional failure (PJF) were also evaluated. RESULTS.: No significant differences were observed in the clinical outcomes of the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), visual analog scale, and major complications including reoperations between the groups. No additional advantage was found for coronal deformity correction, but the restoration of lumbar lordosis in the combined group was significantly higher postoperatively (15.3° vs. 8.87°, P = 0.003) and last follow-up (6.69° vs. 1.02°, P = 0.029) compared to that of the only PSF group. In the subgroup analysis for indirect decompression for the combined group, a significant increase of canal area (104 vs. 122 mm) and foraminal height (16.2 vs. 18.5 mm) was noted. The occurrence of PJK or PJF was significantly higher in the combined group than in the only PSF group (P = 0.039). CONCLUSION.: LLIF has advantages of indirect decompression and greater improvements of sagittal correction compared to only posterior surgery. LLIF should be conducted considering the above-mentioned benefits and complications including PJK or PJF in ASD.Level of Evidence: 4

      • Cognitive decline and increased hippocampal p-tau expression in mice with hearing loss

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Hearing and cognition are commonly involved in both normal and pathological aging. Current clinical interest lies in whether peripheral hearing loss promotes cognitive decline. In our previous publication, the authors have shown a causal relationship between hearing and cognitive impairments in C57BL/6 mice. Here we extended the follow-up to 12 months to determine the long-term effects of hearing loss on cognition and to observe hippocampal p-tau and lipofuscin. One month old male mice were randomly allocated into two groups, the control (<I>n</I> = 12) and noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) (<I>n </I>= 12). After baseline hearing and cognitive measurements, the mice in the NIHL group were exposed to 110 dB SPL white noise for 1 h every day for 20 consecutive days. Cognitive function was assessed by radial arm maze and novel object recognition tests. p-Tau was observed by the western blot, immunofluorescence, and immunogold staining. The mice in the NIHL group showed elevated auditory brainstem response thresholds and poorer performances in spatial working and recognition memories than the controls. They exhibited more p-tau and lipofuscin in the hippocampus. The cognitive impact of hearing loss varied with the types of memory. Working memory impairment was reversible, whereas recognition memory impairment was permanent. Our results provide behavioral and histopathological evidence for hearing-related cognitive decline. Early hearing loss is suggested to be one of the important determinants between normal and pathological cognitive aging.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Mice with hearing loss showed working and recognition memory impairments. </LI> <LI> The impact of hearing loss on cognition varied with the types of memory. </LI> <LI> Working memory was recovered, but recognition memory impairment was permanent. </LI> <LI> Mice with cognitive decline had more p-tau and lipofuscin in the hippocampus. </LI> <LI> Hearing loss is one of the causal factors for pathological cognitive aging. </LI> </UL> </P>

        Molecular Investigation of Two Consecutive Nosocomial Clusters of Candida tropicalis Candiduria Using Pulsed-Field Gel Electrophoresis

        Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) typing was applied to the epidemiological investigation of 21 Candida tropicalis isolates collected from urine specimens of 11 patients and one healthcare worker, in an intensive care unit (ICU) over a 4-month period. Seventeen epidemiologically unrelated strains from 14 patients were also tested to determine the discriminatory power of PFGE. PFGE typing consisted of electrophoretic karyotyping (EK) and restriction endonuclease analysis of genomic DNA (REAG), using two restriction enzymes (BssHII and SfiI). The EK pattern was the same in all 38 isolates, while REAG using SfiI separated the isolates into nine types. However, 16 different PFGE types were iden-tified by REAG with BssHII, and the same results were obtained when the results of both REAG tests were combined. In serial urinary isolates from 10 patients, all strains from each patient had the same PFGE pattern. While the epidemiologically unrelated strains from 14 patients consisted of 13 different PFGE types, the 20 isolates from the 11 ICU patients fell into only two PFGE types (types Cl and C2), and these apparently originated from the two different outbreaks. All strains of type Cl (n = 12) were isolated from six patients, between November 1999 and January 2000, and all of the type C2 strains (n=8) were isolated from five patients, during January and February 2000. This study shows two con-secutive clusters of C. tropicalis candiduria in an ICU, defined by PFGE typing, and also demonstrates that a PFGE typing method using BssHII is perhaps the most useful method for investigating C. tropi-calis candiduria.

        Anti-platelet Activity of Tissue-cultured Mountain Ginseng Adventitious Roots in Human Whole Blood

        Present study investigated the effects of the 70% ethanol extracts of tissue-cultured mountain ginseng (TCMG), Korean red ginseng (KRG), and Panax ginseng (PG) on agonist-induced platelet aggregation and activation in human whole blood. The IC?? values for TCMG, KRG, and PG were 1.159, 3.695, and 4.978 ㎎/㎖ for collagen-induced aggregation, 0.820, 2.030, and 4.743 ㎎/㎖ for arachidonic acid-induced aggregation, and 1.070, 2.617, and 2.954 ㎎/㎖ for ADPinduced aggregation, respectively. Also, this study assessed the effects of the most active extract, TCMG, on markers of platelet activation by determining receptor expression on platelet membranes in healthy subjects, including expression of GPIIb/IIIa-like (PAC-1) and P-selectin (CD62), by flow cytometry. A significant decrease in PAC-1 expression (p=0.018) was observed in the presence of TCMG. These results show that TCMG has potent anti-platelet activity.
