Nitrogen and Oxygen Co-doped Porous Carbon Fabric for Efficient Removal of Formaldehyde

        Tingting Chen,Xiaosai Hu,Tao Zhao,Yuanyu Ge 한국섬유공학회 2022 Fibers and polymers Vol.23 No.7

Formaldehyde can pose a huge threat to human health due to its’ carcinogenic effect. Carbon materials asadsorbents are widely applied to remove formaldehyde hazards. However, most carbon materials with disadvantages of thelimited number of surface functional groups and the lack of suitable pore structure suffer from low adsorption rate for theadsorptive removal of formaldehyde. To improve the adsorption capability, oxygen (O) and nitrogen (N) elements co-dopedporous viscose-based activated carbon fiber (N-O-ACF) was prepared via oxidation-hydrothermal treatment. First of all, theO atom can be introduced into ACF through chemical oxidation. Then, with the help of the O atom bridging effect, N atomscan be efficiently incorporated into ACF, and the content of the N element is as high as 7.13 wt.%. Thus, an improvedadsorption performance of N-O-ACF for formaldehyde removal was achieved with the support of the synergistic effect of Nand O elements. The adsorption capacity of N-O-ACF for removing formaldehyde increased up to 226 mg g-1, while only161.5 mg g-1 was obtained for original ACF. The excellent formaldehyde adsorption capacity indicates that N-O-ACF may bea promising adsorbent in the field of indoor air purification.

Backbone Cyclization of Flavin Mononucleotide-Based Fluorescent Protein Increases Fluorescence and Stability

        Lin Tingting,Ge Yuanyuan,Gao Qing,Zhang Di,Chen Xiaofeng,Hu Yafang,Fan Jun 한국미생물·생명공학회 2023 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.33 No.12

Flavin mononucleotide-binding proteins or domains emit cyan-green fluorescence under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, but relatively low fluorescence and less thermostability limit their application as reporters. In this work, we incorporated the codon-optimized fluorescent protein from Chlamydomonas reinhardtii with two different linkers independently into the redox-responsive split intein construct, overexpressed the precursors in hyperoxic Escherichia coli SHuffle T7 strain, and cyclized the target proteins in vitro in the presence of the reducing agent. Compared with the purified linear protein, the cyclic protein with the short linker displayed enhanced fluorescence. In contrast, cyclized protein with incorporation of the long linker including the myc-tag and human rhinovirus 3C protease cleavable sequence emitted slightly increased fluorescence compared with the protein linearized with the protease cleavage. The cyclic protein with the short linker also exhibited increased thermal stability and exopeptidase resistance. Moreover, induction of the target proteins in an oxygen-deficient culture rendered fluorescent E. coli BL21 (DE3) cells brighter than those overexpressing the linear construct. Thus, the cyclic reporter can hopefully be used in certain thermophilic anaerobes.

Evaluation on bridge dynamic properties and VIV performance based on wind tunnel test and field measurement

Yongxin Yang,Tingting Ma,Yaojun Ge 한국풍공학회 2015 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.20 No.6

Full scale measurement on the structural dynamic characteristics and Vortex-induced Vibrations (VIV) of a long-span suspension bridge with a central span of 1650 m were conducted. Different Finite Element (FE) modeling principles for the separated twin-box girder were compared and evaluated with the field vibration test results, and the double-spine model was determined to be the best simulation model, but certain modification still needs to be made which will affect the basic modeling parameters and the dynamic response prediction values of corresponding wind tunnel tests. Based on the FE modal analysis results, small-scaled and large-scaled sectional model tests were both carried out to investigate the VIV responses, and probable Reynolds Number effects or scale effect on VIV responses were presented. Based on the observed VIV modes in the field measurement, the VIV results obtained from sectional model tests were converted into those of the three-dimensional (3D) full-scale bridge and subsequently compared with field measurement results. It is indicated that the large-scaled sectional model test can probably provide a reasonable and effective prediction on VIV response.

      • The Design of LDPC Encoder Based on the WIMAX Standard

        Xiumin Wang,Fangfei Hong,Tingting Ge,Yi Wang,Binggang Xiao,Nurul I Sarkar 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Future Generation Communi Vol.8 No.4

To meet the higher data rate requirement of encoder, an encoder structure suitable for both two rates(1/2,2/3B) in WIMAX standard is proposed, combined with the method of Design Space Exploration. According to the quasi cyclic characteristics of sparse parity check matrix, the traditional RU algorithm is simplified and optimized to reduce the complexity of the system. Simultaneously we introduce a barrel shifter, and use the method that two rows of the base matrix be restored in one ROM to reduce resource consumption. The simulation results show that the encoder for two rates not only runs successfully, but also reduces the utilization of hardware resources. The encoder architecture has broad application prospects with high flexibility.

Polymorphisms in the uncoupling protein 3 gene and their associations with feed efficiency in chickens

        Jin, Sihua,Yang, Lei,He, Tingting,Fan, Xinfeng,Wang, Yiqiu,Ge, Kai,Geng, Zhaoyu Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2018 Animal Bioscience Vol.31 No.9

Objective: The uncoupling protein 3 (UCP3) is a member of the mitochondrial anion carrier superfamily and has crucial effects on growth and feed efficiency in many species. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to examine the association of polymorphisms in the UCP3 gene with feed efficiency in meat-type chickens. Methods: Six single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the UCP3 gene were chosen to be genotyped using matrix-assisted laser desorption-ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry in meat-type chicken populations with 724 birds in total. Body weight at 49 (BW49) and 70 days of age (BW70) and feed intake (FI) in the interval were collected, then body weight gain (BWG) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were calculated individually. Results: One SNP with a low minor allele frequency (<1%) was removed by quality control and data filtering. The results showed that rs13997809 of UCP3 was significantly associated with BWG and FCR (p<0.05), and that rs13997811 had significant effects on BW70 and BWG (p<0.05). Rs13997812 of UCP3 was strongly associated with BW70, FI, and FCR (p<0.05). Furthermore, individuals with AA genotype of rs13997809 had significantly higher BWG and lower FCR (p<0.05) than those with AT genotype. The GG individuals showed strongly higher BW70 and BWG than AA birds in rs13997811 (p<0.05). Birds with the TT genotype of rs13997812 had significantly greater BW70 and lower FCR compared with the CT birds (p<0.05). In addition, the TAC haplotype based on rs13997809, rs13997811, and rs13997812 showed significant effects on BW70, FI, and FCR (p<0.05). Conclusion: Our results therefore demonstrate important roles for UCP3 polymorphisms in growth and feed efficiency that might be used in meat-type chicken breeding programs.

Association of MMP-9 C-1562T polymorphism with risk of Henoch-Schönlein purpura nephritis in children of southeast China

        Jinwen Xu,Liping Zhao,Hongxia Zhou,Tingting Ge,Lin Zhang 한국유전학회 2017 Genes & Genomics Vol.39 No.4

Henoch-Schönlein purpura nephritis (HSPN) is the most prevalent vasculitis in childhood worldwide. Although the etiology of HSPN is not yet fully elucidated, it is believed to be closely related with infections and genetic predispositions. In this study, a cohort of children from southeast China, including 108 healthy controls and 184 patients were involved in. We scanned the promoter region and the whole gene for genetic variations. A C/T transition located in the promoter region of MMP-9 gene, C-1562T was identified. Subjects were genotyped by using SNaPshot sequencing and the frequencies of CC, CT and TT genotypes were 43, 33 and 24% in patients and 53, 37 and 10% in healthy controls. Allele distribution was found to be in Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium (P = 0.17). Association analysis revealed that the polymorphism was significantly related with HSPN risk (P < 0.05) and T allele was shown to be a risk factor (P = 0.003, odds ratio (OR) 1.63, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.13–2.34). Additionally, we measured the serum MMP-9 concentration and quantified the mRNA expression. Results showed that an elevated protein level was observed in patients compared with controls in both ELISA (P = 0.0029, 136.5 μg/L vs. 103.9 μg/L) and Western blot assays. Furthermore, we also detected 1.93-fold increase in the mRNA transcription in patients carrying homozygous TT genotype, indicating enhanced promoter activity caused by the polymorphism. Based on the incidence risk, a cut-off value of serum MMP-9 served as HSPN diagnosis was suggested at 155 μg/L. Conclusively, our findings suggested that MMP-9 polymorphism was significantly associated with HSPN susceptibility, and C-1562T T allele contributed to HSPN development.
