Discrepancy between Clinician-rated and Self-reported Depression Severity is Associated with Adverse Childhood Experience, Autistic-like Traits, and Coping Styles in Mood Disorders

Risa Yamada(Risa Yamada ),Takeshi Fujii(Takeshi Fujii ),Kotaro Hattori(Kotaro Hattori ),Hiroaki Hori(Hiroaki Hori ),Ryo Matsumura(Ryo Matsumura ),Tomoko Kurashimo(Tomoko Kurashimo ),Naoko Ishihara(Nao 대한정신약물학회 2023 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.21 No.2

Objective: This study aimed to determine if the discrepancy between depression severity rated by clinicians and that reported by patients depends on key behavioral/psychological features in patients with mood disorders. Methods: Participants included 100 patients with mood disorders. First, we examined correlations and regressions between scores on the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD) and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Second, we divided the participants into those who provided 1) greater ratings for the BDI compared with the HAMD (BDI relative- overrating, BO) group, 2) comparable ratings for the BDI and HAMD (BDI relatively concordant, BC) group, or 3) less ratings for the BDI (BDI relative-underrating, BU) group. Adverse childhood experiences, autistic-like traits, and coping styles were evaluated with a six-item short version of the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ-6), the Social Responsiveness Scale for Adults (SRS-A), and the Ways of Coping Checklist (WCCL), respectively. Results: A significant correlation was found between HAMD and BDI scores. Total and emotional abuse subscale scores from the CTQ-6, and the self-blame subscale scores from the WCCL were significantly higher for the BO group compared with the BU group. The BO group also elicited significantly higher SRS-A total scores than did the other groups. Conclusion: These findings suggest that patients with adverse emotional experiences, autistic-like traits, and self-blame coping styles perceive greater distress than that evaluated objectively by clinicians. The results indicate the need for inclusion of subjective assessments to effectively evaluate depressive symptoms in patients deemed to have these psycho- behavioral concerns.

Rotatable sphincterotome as a rescue device for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography cannulation: a single-center experience

        Takeshi Okamoto,Takashi Sasaki,Tsuyoshi Takeda,Takafumi Mie,Chinatsu Mori,Takaaki Furukawa,Yuto Yamada,Akiyoshi Kasuga,Masato Matsuyama,Masato Ozaka,Naoki Sasahira 대한소화기내시경학회 2024 Clinical Endoscopy Vol.57 No.1

Background/Aims: Selective bile duct or pancreatic duct cannulation remains a significant initial hurdle in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) despite advances in endoscopy and accessories. This study evaluated our experience with a rotatable sphincterotome in cases of difficult cannulation. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed ERCP cases using TRUEtome, a rotatable sphincterotome, as a rescue device for cannulation at a cancer institute in Japan from October 2014 to December 2021. Results: TRUEtome was used in 88 patients. Duodenoscopes were used for 51 patients, while single-balloon enteroscopes (SBE) were used for 37 patients. TRUEtome was used for biliary and pancreatic duct cannulation (84.1%), intrahepatic bile duct selection (12.5%), and strictures of the afferent limb (3.4%). Cannulation success rates were similar in the duodenoscope and SBE groups (86.3% vs. 75.7%, p=0.213). TRUEtome was more commonly used in cases with steep cannulation angles in the duodenoscope group and in cases requiring cannulation in different directions in the SBE group. There were no significant differences in adverse events between the two groups. Conclusions: The cannulation sphincterotome was useful for difficult cannulations in both unaltered and surgically altered anatomies. It may be an option to consider before high-risk procedures such as precut and endoscopic ultrasound-guided rendezvous techniques.

Investigation of the Effects of Rear Surface Recombination on the Cu(In,Ga)Se2 Solar Cell Performances

        Takeshi Umehara,Shohei Iinuma,Akira Yamada 대한금속·재료학회 2016 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.12 No.4

This study investigated the band profile design of Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS)solar cells by considering the rear surface recombination. We comparedthe structures assuming the back surface field (BSF), passivation andgraded band profile by using device simulator. As a result, it was foundthat the band structure of a combination of a flat-band and a singlegradedprofile is the suitable structure for CIGS solar cells with theabsorber thickness of around 1.0 μm. In addition, the back passivationtechnique is unnecessary in the case of CIGS solar cells with a bandprofiling technique. We proposed that the band structure of acombination of a flat-band and a single-graded profile is the mostpractical and effective way for CIGS solar cells.

      • Precursor and Substituent Effects on the Alternate Adsorption of Polycation and Anionic Dyes as Studied by Second Harmonic Generation and Absorption Spectroscopies

Yamada, Sunao,Niidome, Yasuro,Hinoguchi, Takeshi Korean Society of Photoscience 2000 Journal of Photosciences Vol.7 No.1

An alternately assembled polycation-anionic dye film was prepared on a precursor assembly of poly(allylamine)hydrochloride (PAH) and poly(sodium styrenesulfonate) (PSS) or of poly (djallyldimethyl)ammonium chloride (PDDA) and PSS. The (PAH/PSS) precursor assembly gave better adsorptivity to the anionic dye than the (PDDA/PSS) one. Four kinds of anionic dyes (EB-T, AR-17 AR-18, AR-27) with different numbers of sulfonate substituents were compared. The extent of dye assembling was higher for the dye with a smaller number of sufonate substituents. Second harmonic generation (SHG) was clearly observed from the films. The SHG signal and the absorption intensity correlated well up to four polycation/dye bilayers, while further assembly did not increase the SHG signal appreciably. Second order nonlinear coefficients for ten bilayer assemblies were the order of pm/V.

      • Lack of Associations between Genetic Polymorphisms in GSTM1, GSTT1 and GSTP1 and Pancreatic Cancer Risk: A Multi-Institutional Case-Control Study in Japan

        Yamada, Ikuhiro,Matsuyama, Masato,Ozaka, Masato,Inoue, Dai,Muramatsu, Yusuke,Ishii, Hiroshi,Junko, Ueda,Ueno, Makoto,Egawa, Naoto,Nakao, Haruhisa,Mori, Mitsuru,Matsuo, Keitaro,Nishiyama, Takeshi,Ohkaw Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.1

Background: We aimed to evaluate the role of genetic polymorphisms in tobacco carcinogen-metabolizing genes and their interactions with smoking in a hospital-based case-control study of Japanese subjects. Materials and Methods: We examine the associations of pancreatic cancer risk with genetic polymorphisms in GSTM1, GSTT1 and GSTP1, phase II enzymes that catalyze the conjugation of toxic and carcinogenic electrophilic molecules. The study population consisted of 360 patients and 400 control subjects, who were recruited from several medical facilities in Japan. Unconditional logistic regression methods were used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the associations between genotypes and pancreatic cancer risk. Results: Among the control subjects, the prevalence of the GSTM1-null genotype and the GSTT1-null genotype was approximately 56% and 48%, respectively. Cases and controls were comparable in terms of GSTM1 and GSTT1 genotype distributions. Neither of the deleted polymorphisms in GSTM1 and GSTT1 was associated with the risk of pancreatic cancer, with an age- and sex-adjusted OR of 0.99 (95%CI: 0.74-1.32) for the GSTM1-null genotype, and 0.98 (95%CI: 0.73-1.31) for the GSTT1-null genotype. The OR was 0.97 (95%CI: 0.64-1.47) for individuals with the GSTM1 and GSTT1-null genotypes compared with those with the GSTM1 and GSTT1- present genotypes. No synergistic effects of smoking or GST genotypes were observed. Conclusions: Our results indicate no overall association between the GSTM1 and GSTT1 deletion polymorphisms and pancreatic cancer risk in the Japanese subjects in our study.

      • Dietary Aloe Vera Gel Powder and Extract Inhibit Azoxymethane-induced Colorectal Aberrant Crypt Foci in Mice Fed a High-fat Diet

        Chihara, Takeshi,Shimpo, Kan,Kaneko, Takaaki,Beppu, Hidehiko,Higashiguchi, Takashi,Sonoda, Shigeru,Tanaka, Miyuki,Yamada, Muneo,Abe, Fumiaki Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.2

Aloe vera gel exhibits protective effects against insulin resistance as well as lipid-lowering and anti-diabetic effects. The anti-diabetic compounds in this gel were identified as Aloe-sterols. Aloe vera gel extract (AVGE) containing Aloe-sterols has recently been produced using a new procedure. We previously reported that AVGE reduced large-sized intestinal polyps in Apc-deficient Min mice fed a high fat diet (HFD), suggesting that Aloe vera gel may protect against colorectal cancer. In the present study, we examined the effects of Aloe vera gel powder (AVGP) and AVGE on azoxymethane-induced colorectal preneoplastic aberrant crypt foci (ACF) in mice fed a HFD. Male C57BL/6J mice were given a normal diet (ND), HFD, HFD containing 0.5% carboxymethyl cellulose solution, which was used as a solvent for AVGE (HFDC), HFD containing 3% or 1% AVGP, and HFDC containing 0.0125% (H-) or 0.00375% (L-) AVGE. The number of ACF was significantly lower in mice given 3% AVGP and H-AVGE than in those given HFD or HFDC alone. Moreover, 3% AVGP, H-AVGE and L-AVGE significantly decreased the mean Ki-67 labeling index, assessed as a measure of cell proliferation in the colonic mucosa. In addition, hepatic phase II enzyme glutathione S-transferase mRNA levels were higher in the H-AVGE group than in the HFDC group. These results suggest that both AVGP and AVGE may have chemopreventive effects on colorectal carcinogenesis under the HFD condition. Furthermore, the concentration of Aloe-sterols was similar between 3% AVGP and H-AVGE, suggesting that Aloe-sterols were the main active ingredients in this experiment.

      • Reduction of Intestinal Polyp Formation in Min Mice Fed a High-Fat Diet with Aloe Vera Gel Extract

        Chihara, Takeshi,Shimpo, Kan,Beppu, Hidehiko,Tomatsu, Akiko,Kaneko, Takaaki,Tanaka, Miyuki,Yamada, Muneo,Abe, Fumiaki,Sonoda, Shigeru Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.7

Aloe vera gel supercritical $CO_2$ extract (AVGE) has been shown to contain five phytosterols, reduce visceral fat accumulation, and influence the metabolism of glucose and lipids in animal model experiments. Recent epidemiologic studies have shown that obesity is an established risk factor for several cancers including colorectal cancer. Therefore, we examined the effects of AVGE on intestinal polyp formation in Apc-deficient Min mice fed a high-fat diet. Male Min mice were divided into normal diet (ND), high fat diet (HFD), low dose AVGE (HFD+LAVGE) and high dose AVGE (HFD+HAVGE) groups. The ND group received AIN-93G diet and the latter 3 groups were given modified high-fat AIN-93G diet (HFD) for 7 weeks. AVGE was suspended in 0.5% carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and administered orally to mice in HFD+LAVGE and HFD+HAVGE groups every day (except on Sunday) for 7 weeks at a dose of 3.75 and 12.5 mg/kg body weight, respectively. ND and HFD groups received 0.5% CMC alone. Between weeks 4 and 7, body weights in the HFD and HFD+LAVGE groups were reduced more than those in the ND group. However, body weights were not reduced in the HFD+HAVGE group. Mice were sacrificed at the end of the experiment and their intestines were scored for polyps. No significant differences were observed in either the incidence and multiplicity of intestinal polyps (${\geq}0.5$ mm in a diameter) among the three groups fed HFD. However, when intestinal polyps were categorized by their size into 0.5-1.4, 1.5-2.4, or ${\geq}2.5$ mm, the incidence and multiplicity of large polyps (${\geq}2.5$ mm) in the intestine in the HFD+HAVGE group were significantly lower than those in the HFD group. We measured plasma lipid (triglycerides and total cholesterol) and adipocytokine [interleukin-6 and high molecular weight (HMW) adiponectin] levels as possible indicators of mechanisms of inhibition. The results showed that HMW adiponectin levels in the HFD group were significantly lower than those in the ND group. However, the levels in the HFD+HAVGE group were significantly higher than those in the HFD group. These results indicate that HAVGE reduced large-sized intestinal polyps and ameliorated reduction in plasma HMW adiponectin levels in Min mice fed HFD.

Electronic Transport Property of a YbMnO_3/ZnO Heterostructure

Hiroaki Yamada,Tadahiro Fukushima,Takeshi Yoshimura,Norifumi Fujimura 한국물리학회 2011 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.58 No.4

The electronic transport property of a YbMnO_3/ZnO heterostructure was investigated. Since ZnO is a polar semiconductor, which has a spontaneous polarization, the spontaneous polarization of YbMnO3 can be expected to affect the carrier transport of the ZnO layer and to interact with that of ZnO. To investigate the effect of the spontaneous polarization of YbMnO_3, we characterized the temperature dependences of the conduction properties of the YbMnO_3/ZnO heterostructure by using Hall-effect measurement and analyzed them by using various scattering effects including polar optical phonon scattering, acoustic phonon scattering through the deformation potential and the piezoelectric potential, ionized impurity scattering and grain boundary scattering. The analysis revealed that the predominant scattering mechanism was changed from grain boundary scattering to ionized impurity scattering by the deposition of YbMnO_3. The change in the scattering mechanism is attributed to a partly depletion of ZnO induced by the spontaneous polarization of YbMnO_3.

Good Practices of Ergonomic Science Communication in Japan

        Yasuyuki Yamada,Takeshi Ebara,Takashi Toriizuka 대한산업공학회 2022 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.21 No.4

Science communication (SciComm) is a practical activity that maximizes the utility of academic findings, knowledge, and information. This study examined the good practices and future issues of SciComm in the field of ergonomics, in Japan. The first good practice was the establishment of the SciComm Committee in the Japan Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (JES) in 2020. The second was the ErgonomicThon workshop—an ergonomic Ideathon to discuss new ideas regarding the uses of ergonomic findings. The third was the original SciComm program using infographics to promote the use of ergonomic words in social networking service (SNS) communication. The fourth practice was the challenging online fieldwork conducted using the Google Street View. The last practice was the virtual convivial party held at the 62nd conference of JES in 2021. Based on these practices, we suggest the following three future issues of SciComm: (1) promotion of SciComm, beyond times of crisis; (2) development of ergonomic guidelines for SciComm; and, (3) promotion of online SciComm within the information society. This study outlines the importance of sharing good practices and future issues of SciComm that will help spread the movement of the SciComm in the field of ergonomics.
