Gallbladder cancer has a poor prognosis, especially in peritoneal carcinomatosis related to perforation of the gallbladder followed by bile spillage. Previously, curative-intent treatment was not considered in carcinomatosis from cancer of the biliary tract. A 72-year-old male was referred to the hospital with a perforated gallbladder cancer. Intraoperatively, the tumor was confined to the gallbladder and liver. We presented a case of intention-to-curative resection of perforated gallbladder cancer followed by intraoperative hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy.

Background/Aims: Maintaining vascular access (VA) is very important in the management of hemodialysis (HD) patients. Therefore, the identification of risk factors for decreased vascular access flow has clinical relevance. The aim of the present study was to investigate the impact of serum phosphorus (P) on autologous arteriovenous fistula flow in HD patients. Methods: Sixty-two maintenance HD patients who visited the dialysis unit of CHA Bundang Medical Center between November 2016 and December 2017 were included in the study. Serum P levels were obtained every month, and time-averaged serum P was calculated. All patients had left arm arteriovenous fistulas (AVF; side-to-side anastomosis). AVF flow was assessed by Transonic HD 03. Decreased AVF flow was defined as < 600 mL/min. Results: Decreased AVF flow was observed in 14 of 62 patients. In univariate analysis and multivariable analysis, higher serum P had a significant independent association with decreased AVF flow. Advanced age, reduced ejection fraction, low blood flow rate in dialysis, and higher serum calcium were not associated with AVF flow. Conclusions: The present study demonstrated that higher serum P was an independent risk factor for decreased autologous AVF flow in maintenance HD patients. Serial monitoring of serum P may be helpful in stratifying patients by risk of AVF dysfunction, and proper management of serum P levels may be helpful in maintaining flow through autologous AVFs. <P>Cancer cells undergo uncontrolled proliferation resulting from aberrant activity of various cell-cycle proteins. Therefore, despite recent advances in intensive chemotherapy, it is difficult to cure cancer completely. Recently, cell-cycle regulators became attractive targets in cancer therapy. Zingerone, a phenolic compound isolated from ginger, is a nontoxic and inexpensive compound with varied pharmacological activities. In this study, the therapeutic effect of zingerone as an anti-mitotic agent in human neuroblastoma cells was investigated. Following treatment of BE(2)-M17 cells with zingerone, we performed a 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5- diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay and colony-formation assay to evaluate cellular proliferation, in addition to immunofluorescence cytochemistry and flow cytometry to examine the mitotic cells. The association of gene expression with tumor stage and survival was analyzed. Furthermore, to examine the anti-cancer effect of zingerone, we applied a BALB/c mouse-tumor model using a BALB/c-derived adenocarcinoma cell line. In human neuroblastoma cells, zingerone inhibited cellular viability and survival. Moreover, the number of mitotic cells, particularly those in prometaphase, increased in zingerone-treated neuroblastoma cells. Regarding specific molecular mechanisms, zingerone decreased cyclin D1 expression and induced the cleavage of caspase-3 and poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP-1). The decrease in cyclin D1 and increase in histone H3 phosphorylated (p)-Ser10 were confirmed by immunohistochemistry in tumor tissues administered with zingerone. These results suggest that zingerone induces mitotic arrest followed by inhibition of growth of neuroblastoma cells. Collectively, zingerone may be a potential therapeutic drug for human cancers, including neuroblastoma.</P>

NAM, SEUNGYOON,LEE, JIEUN,GOH, SUNG-HO,HONG, SEUNG-HYUN,SONG, NAALEUM,JANG, SANG-GEUN,CHOI, IL JU,LEE, YEON-SU D.A. Spandidos 2012 International journal of oncology Vol.41 No.5
<P>To elucidate the molecular basis of early gastric cancer (EGC), the genome-wide expression pattern of cancer and normal tissues from 27 patients were analyzed by a microarray-based method. Using an integrative systematic bioinformatics approach, we classified the differentially expressed genes in EGC. Interestingly, the more highly expressed genes in EGC exhibited the most significant correlation with cell migration and metastasis. This implies that, even at the early stage of gastric cancer, the molecular properties usually observed in late-stage cancer are already present. Furthermore, we have found a novel association between the expression pattern and molecular pathways of EGC and estrogen receptor α (ERα)-negative breast cancer through cross-experimental analysis. These results provide new insights into the biological properties of EGC, as well as yielding useful basic data for the study of molecular mechanisms of EGC carcinogenesis.</P>
EFFECT OF ANISOTROPIC PLASTICITY ON THE PREDICTION OF FORMABILITY OF E-FORM MAGNESIUM ALLOY SHEET
Yongheon Lee,Seungyoon Jung,Hansung Baek,Jinwoo Lee,Moon-Seok Choi,이명규 한국자동차공학회 2019 International journal of automotive technology Vol.20 No.6
In this paper, the formability of E-FORM magnesium alloy sheet (as one of recent alloys for automotive magnesium sheets) is analyzed based on the comparison between the results of actual magnesium (Mg) roof forming and those of finite element (FE) simulations. The FE model considers anisotropic mechanical properties and forming limit diagram (FLD) of the investigated magnesium alloy sheet. Through the coupled experimental and numerical procedure, the dominating factors for improving the accuracy of the numerical simulations are further studied. A commercial finite element analysis program, AUTOFORM®, is used for the simulations, in which identified mechanical properties and forming limit criteria are implemented as functions of temperature and strain rate. The improvement in the prediction of formability during the warm forming of the E-FORM magnesium alloy sheet can be obtained by considering a modified hardening law at large strain region, sheet anisotropy, and the properly measured forming limit curve.
An online complete coverage approach for a team of robots in unknown environments
Hoang Huu Viet,SeungYoon Choi,TaeChoong Chung 제어로봇시스템학회 2013 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2013 No.10
This paper presents a novel approach to deal with the online complete coverage problem for a team of robots in unknown environments. In our approach each robot covers an unvisited region using a single boustrophedon motion until a robot reaches an ending point, which is surrounded by covered positions or obstacles. At the ending point the robot detects backtracking points based on the accumulated knowledge, plans the shortest backtracking path to the next starting point based on the proposed Theta* with multi-goals. Then, it follows the planed path to the next starting point to cover the next unvisited region. The robot team finishes the coverage task when no backtracking point is detected. Computer simulations show that our proposed approach is efficient for the complete coverage task of a robot team in terms of the coverage rate and the coverage path length.
