Positioning errors of dental implants and their associations with adjacent structures and anatomical variations: A CBCT-based study

Ribas, Beatriz Ribeiro,Nascimento, Eduarda Helena Leandro,Freitas, Deborah Queiroz,Pontual, Andrea dos Anjos,Pontual, Maria Luiza dos Anjos,Perez, Danyel Elias Cruz,Ramos-Perez, Flavia Maria Moraes Korean Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology 2020 Imaging Science in Dentistry Vol.50 No.4

Purpose: The objective of the present study was to evaluate the prevalence of dental implants positioning errors and their associations with adjacent structures and anatomical variations by means of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Materials and Methods: CBCT images of 207 patients (584 dental implants) were evaluated by 2 oral radiologists. The distance between the implant and the adjacent teeth/implants was measured and classified as adequate (≥1.5 mm and ≥3 mm, respectively) or inadequate. The presence of thread exposure, cortical perforation, implant dehiscence, implant penetration into adjacent structures, and anatomical variations was also recorded. The incisor canal diameter and the depth of the concavity of the submandibular fossa were measured in order to evaluate their correlations with the frequency of implant penetration in these structures. Descriptive analyses, the Fisher exact test, and Spearman correlation analysis were performed (α=0.05). Results: The overall prevalence of positioning errors was 82.9%. The most common error was the inadequate distance between the implant and the adjacent teeth/implants. The presence of anatomical variations did not significantly influence the overall prevalence of errors (P>0.05). There was a positive correlation between the diameter of the incisor canal and the frequency of implant penetration in this structure (r=0.232, P<0.05). Conclusion: There was a high prevalence of dental implant positioning errors, and positioning errors were not associated with the presence of anatomical variations. Professionals should be aware of the space available for implant placement during the preoperative planning stage.

      • RELEITURAS DO QUIXOTE NA PÓS-MODERNIDADE : HIBRIDISMO, RESISTêNCIA E JOGO NO DISCURSO LATINOAMERICANO

Maria Cristina Cardoso Ribas Institute of Iberoamerican Studies Pusan Universit 2012 International Journal of Latin American Studies Vol.2 No.-

Individual unique colour patterns of the pronotum of Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) allow for photographic identification methods (PIM)

        Joan Díaz-Calafat,Elisa Ribas-Marqués,Sebastià Jaume-Ramisa,Sergio Martínez-Nuñez,Anna Sharapova,Samuel Pinya 한국응용곤충학회 2018 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.21 No.2

Photographic identification methods are of highly importance when it comes to reduce the animal's stress, pain and possible injuries during or after marking techniques and thus to increase the reliability of demographic parameter estimates. There is plenty of software available for photo-identification, allowing individual identification in capture-mark-recapture (CMR) methods using body patterns, spots and marks unique to each individual. However, these non-invasive methods have hardly ever been used with arthropods. In this study, APHIS (Automated PHoto Identification Suite) has been assessed as a software capable of identifying individuals in different samplings during catch-and-release sessions with dead specimens under laboratory conditions. For this individual identification, SPM (Spot Pattern Matching) and ITM (Image Template Matching) procedures were tested; achieving a success of 100% and 95.35%, respectively. In SPM, the software itself matched the specimens almost automatically in half of the cases. However, it resulted more time-consuming than ITM during the pre-processing of images. On the other hand, ITM saves time during this step and still is able to detect recaptures accurately, yet more time may be needed when selecting the recaptures from the candidate list. Thus, it can be attested that APHIS is a competent and efficient software regarding photo-identification of Rhynchophorus ferrugineus and species with similar and unique individual colour patterns in their pronotum.

Quality of Life Differences in Female and Male Patients with Fecal Incontinence

( Lluis Mundet ),( Yolanda Ribas ),( Sandra Arco ),( Pere Clave ) 대한소화기기능성질환·운동학회 2016 Journal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (JNM Vol.22 No.1

Background/Aims To explore and compare quality of life (QoL) differences in female and male patients with fecal incontinence. Methods Ninety-one patients with fecal incontinence (60 women, mean (SD) age 64.13 (9.72) years; 31 men, mean (SD) age 63.61 (13.33) years) were assessed for pathophysiology (anorectal manometry and ultrasound), clinical severity (Wexner and Vaizey scales), QoL (Fecal Incontinence Quality of Life Score [FIQL]) and health status (EQ-5D). Results External and internal anal sphincter impairment rates were 96.5% and 70.2%, respectively, in women, compared to 30% and 43.3% respectively in men (P < 0.05). Clinical severity was similar in both sexes, with mean (SD) Wexner scores of 10.95 (4.35) for women and 9.81 (4.30) for men, and mean (SD) Vaizey scores of 13.27 (4.66) for women and 11.90 (5.22) for men. Scores for women were significantly lower for all FIQL depression and coping subscales (P < 0.001) and the EQ-5D depression subscale (P < 0.01). EQ-5D index was 0.687 (0.20) for women and 0.835 (0.15) for men (P < 0.001). QoL was negatively affected by female gender (-1.336), anxiety/depression (-1.324) and clinical severity (-0.302), whereas age had a positive impact (0.055 per year) (P < 0.01). Conclusions The pathophysiology of fecal incontinence differed between the sexes. For similar severity scores, impact on QoL was higher in women. Gender had the highest impact on QoL compared to other factors. QoL measurements should be part of assessment and treatment protocols. (J Neurogastroenterol Motil 2016;22:94-101)

      • Individualized Chemotherapy for Metastatic Gastric Cancer: Retrospective Data from a University Hospital in Brazil

Aguiar, Pedro Nazareth Junior,Ribas, Christian,Forones, Nora Manoukian Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.13

Background: Despite the decreased incidence, gastric cancer is still a frequent cause of cancer related death. The 1st line 2 or 3 drugs regimen is still a debatable issue. HER2 targeted therapy has emerged as the standard of care, but it is unavailable in the Brazilian Public Health System. The end-point of this trial was overall survival (OS) in patients with metastatic gastric cancer treated in a public university hospital in Brazil. The secondary end-points were efficacy and safety of regimens with 2 (F+P) or 3 (EOX) drugs to develop an institutional guideline to facilitate optimal treatments. Materials and Methods: In this retrospective study, 1st line regimens were evaluated for OS and PFS stratified by age and ECOG using Cox regression. Results: 47 patients were treated over the last 3 years. In 1st line, 29 were treated with F+P (mean 59.3 years, 34.5% ECOG 2 and a mean of 5.69 cycles) and 16 with EOX (mean 47 years, 18.8% ECOG 2 and a mean of 5.44 cycles). The median OS was 13.8 months (95%CI 10.7-16.9). Response was evaluated in 40 cases and was 64.3% for EOX and 37.5% for F+P (p=0.25). The median PFS was 9.5 months for EOX and 5.6 months for F+P (HR 0.85, 95%CI 0.41-1.74). However, among patients with ECOG 2 mPFS was 3.70 vs 5.40 months, respectively (p=0.86). Regimens showed similar manageable adverse events. A total of 34 patients suffered progression and 14 received $2^{nd}$ line therapy. Diffuse histology (HR 1.89, 95%CI 1.22-2.88), achieving 2nd line (HR: 0.25, 95%CI 0.11-0.58) and treatment response (HR 0.23, 95%CI 0.12-0.47) were OS prognostic factors. Conclusions: Patients treated in our hospital had outcomes compatible with the literature. The regimen choice should be related to patient features. Second line treatment should be considered.

Association between decreased ovarian reserve and poor oocyte quality

( Viviane Margareth Scantamburlo ),( Renate Von Linsingen ),( Lidio Jair Ribas Centa ),( Kahisa Fontana Dal Toso ),( Debora Scaraboto ),( Edward Araujo Júnior ),( Jaime Kulak Junior ) 대한산부인과학회 2021 Obstetrics & Gynecology Science Vol.64 No.6

Objective To analyze the association between oocyte quality and decreased ovarian reserve (DOR) markers in young women undergoing controlled ovarian stimulation (COS). Methods This retrospective study included 49 patients classified as having DOR based on anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) levels, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels, or antral follicle counts (AFCs; <10). Images of all obtained oocytes were analyzed, and oocyte quality was classified according to maturity and morphology. The COS protocol utilized gonadotropin (FSH and/or human menopausal gonadotropin [hMG]) doses ranging from 150 to 300 IU/day. The Student’s t test or Mann-Whitney test was used to compare the groups. Spearman’s coefficients were estimated to verify the correlation between the administered dose of FSH/hMG and the number of mature oocytes. To evaluate the association between patient- and oocyte-related variables, logistic regression models were adjusted. Results Women with DOR classified according to FSH level had more immature oocytes (P<0.001). Women with DOR according to AMH had fewer mature oocytes and increased basal FSH levels (P<0.001). Women with DOR according to AFC had an increased risk of abnormally shaped oocytes (P=0.035). Conclusion This study showed that DOR based on AMH levels, FSH levels, and AFC was associated with poorer quality oocytes in young women who underwent COS.

Genome-wide in silico analysis of SOD genes in common bean ( Phaseolus vulgaris L.)

Silviany Angelica Fernandes Silva,Fláive Loyze Baldassarini Silva,Alessandra Ferreira Ribas,Silvia Graciele Hülse de Souza,Tiago Benedito dos Santos 한국작물학회 2020 Journal of crop science and biotechnology Vol.23 No.3

Superoxide dismutases (SODs) are a group of enzymes that play essential roles in catalyzing the dismutation of superoxide radicals to protect cells from oxidative damage caused by various adverse conditions. SODs are classifi ed into three types based on their metal cofactors: Cu/ZnSOD, FeSOD, and MnSOD. This study presents the fi rst genome-wide identifi cation of SOD genes in Phaseolus vulgaris L. Eight SOD genes were identifi ed in the genome of P. vulgaris L., including four Cu / ZnSODs ( CSD ), three FeSODs ( FSD ) and one MnSOD ( MSD ). The protein sequence ranged between 166 and 312 amino acids with 5–8 introns each. Most PvSOD genes are in chromosome 7. The syntenic analysis revealed that PvFSD1 and PvFSD2 genes were derived from segmental duplication. As expected, phylogenetic analyses grouped the PvSOD proteins into three classes based on their metal cofactors: copper/zinc (Cu/Zn)SOD, manganese (Mn)SOD, and iron (Fe)SOD. Expression pattern analysis using RNAseq data indicated that three of the PvSOD genes ( PvMSD1 , PvCSD3 , and PvFSD1 ) were detected in majority of tissues and developmental stages. This study provides a comprehensive analysis about SOD genes in P. vulgaris L. and new resources for future studies on the functional analysis of PvSOD genes in this species of great agronomic importance.

Artichoke Induces Genetic Toxicity and Decreases Ethyl Methanesulfonate-Related DNA Damage in Chinese Hamster Ovary Cells

Laura Vicedo Jacociunas,Heloisa Helena Rodrigues de Andrade,Mauricio Lehmann,Bianca Regina Ribas de Abreu,Alexandre de Barros Falca˜o Ferraz,Juliana da Silva,Rafael Rodrigues Dihl 한국식품영양과학회 2012 Journal of medicinal food Vol.15 No.10

Cynara scolymus L. (Asteraceae), popularly known as artichoke, has been widely used in herbal medicine for the treatment of hepatic diseases. The genotoxicity of C. scolymus L. leaf extract (LE) and the ability to modulate the genetic toxicity of the alkylating agent ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS) were assessed using the comet assay on Chinese hamster ovary cells. Genotoxicity was evaluated after 1- and 24-h treatments using four different LE concentrations: 0.62, 1.25, 2.5, and 5.0 mg/mL. Antigenotoxicity was assessed for pretreatment, simultaneous treatment, and post-treatment. All doses used led to a significant increase in the frequency of DNA damage, after exposure for 1 and 24 h. In the antigenotoxicity experiments, LE reduced the frequency of DNA damage induced by EMS in the simultaneous treatment only. However, the lowest dose was more protective than higher concentrations. Flavonoids and phenolic compounds are, probably, the C. scolymus constituents responsible for its genotoxic and antigenotoxic effects

Molybdenum (Mo) transporter genes in Panicoideae species: a genome-wide evolution study

Bavaresco Lorrayne Guimarães,Silva Silviany Angelica Fernandes,de Souza Silvia Graciele Hülse,Ribas Alessandra Ferreira,Tiago Benedito dos Santos 한국작물학회 2022 Journal of crop science and biotechnology Vol.25 No.3

Molybdenum (Mo) is one important mineral element for plants because it participates actively in many metabolic essential functions like the synthesis of molybdenum cofactor and nitrogen metabolism. Mo is available on soil in an anionic form, and its activity increases with pH elevation. Few studies in the literature reported the identifcation and characterization of Mo transporter genes. Given the above, we describe a comprehensive in silico analysis of Mo transporters in six Panicoideae species. We identifed 15 candidates genes associated with Mo transporters. The subcellular location shows that all predicted genes were present in the plasma membrane. The genomic structure revealed that most of the Mo transporters genes showed no introns, while two sequences of P. virgatum presented one intron. Five conserved motifs and nine putative transmembrane domains were identifed. Phylogenetic analysis revealed two groups (A1 and A2), showing close or conserved phylogenetic relationships. Synteny analysis identifed 45 pairs of syntenic Mo orthologous among the six genomes of Panicoideae species, and purifying selection played a critical role in the evolution of Mo transporter genes. Eforts need to be undertaken to understand and improve molybdenum uptake and utilization in Panicoideae species for the sustainability of these species. This study will serve as a biotechnological basis for the characterization of candidate genes (Mo) involved in the regulation of gene expression under adverse conditions, allowing the development of future strategies to ensure greater sustainability of the important species of Panicoideae.
