        Potato tillage method is associated with soil microbial communities, soil chemical properties, and potato yield

        Intensive potato continuous cropping (IPCC) results in low potato yields compared with non-intensive potato continuous cropping (PCC) and potato-maize rotation (PMRC). However, it is still unclear whether the degree of potato continuous cropping obstacle is related to the soil environment formed by the previous crop. To investigate the effect of planting potatoes and planting maize after harvesting the spring potatoes on soil chemical properties and soil microbial community structure, an experiment was carried out in the same origin soil environment over a period of seven years: (a) PCC, i.e., spring planting; (b) IPCC, i.e., autumn and spring planting (IPCC); (c) PMRC, i.e., spring potatoes and summer maize (PMRC), and (d) fallow (CK). We confirmed that the potato yield under PMRC was significantly higher than that under PCC and IPCC. Under IPCC, soil total phosphorus content was significantly higher than other treatments, whereas ammonium nitrogen content was the lowest. Compared with PCC and IPCC, PMRC had a higher ammonium nitrogen content and lower total phosphorus content. The significantly different fungal taxa in IPCC (Glomerellales, Plectosphaerella, Thelebolales) may threaten the health of the plant and positive correlated with soil total phosphorus, while other microbial taxa in PMRC (Bacillales, Polythrincium, Helotiales) can mainly promotes plant nitrogen uptake and protects plants against diseases. The PMRC-promoting taxa were positively correlated with the ammonium nitrogen content and negative correlated with soil total phosphorus content. In summary, the cropping systems might have affected potato yields by changed soil microorganism community structures – especially fungal community structures – and by the chemical properties of the soils that also depends on microbes.

        Performance of BMSC column with large eccentricity under natural exposure conditions

        As a new type of concrete material, basic magnesium sulfate cement concrete (BMSC) has the advantages, such as early strength, high strength, good toughness and crack resistance. However, it is unclear about the degradation of the mechanical properties of BMSC columns, which is exposed to the natural environment for several years. In order to apply this new concrete to practical engineering, six large-eccentricity compressive columns of BMSC were studied. The mechanical properties such as the crack propagation, failure morphology, lateral displacement and bearing capacity of BMSC column were studied. The results show that the degradation rate of ultimate load of BMSC column is from 6% to 7%. The degradation rate of the stiffness of the column is from 6% to 13%. With the increase of compressive strength of BMSC, the axial displacement and lateral displacement are gradually reduced. The calculation model of bearing capacity of the BMSC column under the large eccentric compression is proposed. This paper provides a reference for the application of BMSC columns in the civil engineering.

        Multi-objective collaborative optimization using linear physical programming with dynamic weight

        The multi-objective collaborative optimization problem with multi-objective subsystems has a bi-level optimization architecture, that consists of the system and subsystem levels. Combining the multi-objective optimization algorithm with a bi-level optimization structure can obtain a satisfactory solution. Given that the preference-based algorithm requires minimal running time, the Linear physical programming (LPP) method, one of the typical preference-based algorithms, is adopted. Considering that setting the preference values for the incompatibility function is difficult, the weighted incompatibility function is added to the piecewise linear function of the LPP model. An expression of dynamic weight is also presented according to the inconsistency among the subsystems, which is caused by the sharing and auxiliary variables relative to the different subsystems. Using an engineering example, this study reveals that the interdisciplinary consistency is satisfactory when the dynamic weight is used in the LPP model, which thereby demonstrates the effectiveness of the presented method.

        Tanshinone IIA Protects Endothelial Cells from H2O2-Induced Injuries via PXR Activation

        Tanshinone IIA (Tan IIA) is a pharmacologically active substance extracted from the rhizome of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge (also known as the Chinese herb Danshen), and is widely used to treat atherosclerosis. The pregnane X receptor (PXR) is a nuclear receptor that is a key regulator of xenobiotic and endobiotic detoxification. Tan IIA is an efficacious PXR agonist that has a potential protective effect on endothelial injuries induced by xenobiotics and endobiotics via PXR activation. Previously numerous studies have demonstrated the possible effects of Tan IIA on human umbilical vein endothelial cells, but the further mechanism for its exerts the protective effect is not well established. To study the protective effects of Tan IIA against hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), we pretreated cells with or without different concentrations of Tan IIA for 24 h, then exposed the cells to 400 μM H2O2 for another 3 h. Therefore, our data strongly suggests that Tan IIA may lead to increased regeneration of glutathione (GSH) from the glutathione disulfide (GSSG) produced during the GSH peroxidase-catalyzed decomposition of H2O2 in HUVECs, and the PXR plays a significant role in this process. Tan IIA may also exert protective effects against H2O2-induced apoptosis through the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway associated with the participation of PXR. Tan IIA protected HUVECs from inflammatory mediators triggered by H2O2 via PXR activation. In conclusion, Tan IIA protected HUVECs against H2O2-induced cell injury through PXR-dependent mechanisms.

        Microstructure Transformation in Different Regions of Zr61.4Cu27.8Al4Ni6Y0.8 Bulk Metallic Glass Induced by Rapid Laser Welding

        An experimental study is performed on the microstructure transformation induced by rapid laser welding in the differentregions of Zr61.4Cu27.8Al4Ni6Y0.8bulk metallic glass (BMG). The laser input energy has a remarkable influence on themicrostructure and microhardness of the Zr-based BMGs. The microstructures in different regions of as-welded joints arediverse. Crystallization happens in heat-affected zone (HAZ) with crystalline dendritic phase of CuZr, which results in thedeterioration of the microhardness to 434.9 ± 17.1 HV in HAZ, much lower than that of parent material as 517 ± 5.0 HV. Meanwhile, the element profiles indicate that intragranular segregation of Cu element occurs during the crystallization process. In the center of molten zone (MZ), the structure is fully amorphous and its hardness is close to that of parent material. In the region transiting from MZ to HAZ, some nano-grains with an average size of 20–50 nm are identified. In addition,several flower-like nanostructured grains of Y2O3phase with a size ranging from 50 to 80 nm are formed in MZ’s matrix. The nanocrystallization is believed to be responsible for the enhancement of the Vickers hardness up to 560.1 ± 8.4 HV inthis region.

        Recombinant Kluyveromyces lactis expressing highly pathogenic porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus GP5 elicits mucosal and cell-mediated immune responses in mice

        Currently, killed-virus and modified-live porcinereproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV)vaccines are used to control porcine reproductive andrespiratory syndrome. However, both types of vaccines haveinherent drawbacks; accordingly, the development of novelPRRSV vaccines is urgently needed. Previous studies havesuggested that yeast possesses adjuvant activities, and it hasbeen used as an expression vehicle to elicit immune responsesto foreign antigens. In this report, recombinantKluyveromyces lactis expressing GP5 of HP-PRRSV(Yeast-GP5) was generated and immune responses to thisconstruct were analyzed in mice. Intestinal mucosalPRRSV-specific sIgA antibody and higher levels of IFN-γ inspleen CD4+ and CD8+ T cells were induced by oraladministration of Yeast-GP5. Additionally, Yeast-GP5administered subcutaneously evoked vigorous cell-mediatedimmunity, and PRRSV-specific lymphocyte proliferationand IFN-γ secretion were detected in the splenocytes of mice. These results suggest that Yeast-GP5 has the potential foruse as a vaccine for PRRSV in the future.

        A new method based on LPP and NSGA-II for multiobjective robust collaborative optimization

        The multiobjective robust collaborative optimization framework consists of optimization both at the system and autonomous subsystem levels. Linear physical programming is used in the system level optimization, which avoids the difficulty in choosing the multidimensional Pareto set. The non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) is used in the subsystem optimization with physical objectives. The interdisciplinary incompatibility function and physical objectives have different priority levels. At the first priority level, the best individual should be in the feasible region of the subsystem. At the second priority level, the interdisciplinary incompatibility function of the best individual should be no more than the feasibility threshold. The physical objectives are improved after the achievement of the above levels. A method for producing initial population with feasibility and diversity is proposed to improve the calculation efficiency and accuracy of the subsystem optimization at the first priority level. A method for setting dynamic feasibility threshold is proposed for the non-dominated sorting to help the physical objectives to obtain better solutions at the second priority level. Finally,the results of the speed reducer show that the presented method is efficient.
