Behaviour and stability of prestressed steel plate girder for torsional buckling
L. M. Gupta,G. N. Ronghe,M. K. Naghate 국제구조공학회 2003 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.3 No.1
A higher level of engineering standard in the field of construction, is the use of prestressing in building structures. The concept of prestressing steel structures has only recently been widely considered, despite a long and successful history of prestressing concrete members. Several analytical studies of prestressed steel girders were reported in literatures, but much of the work was not studied with reference to the optimal design and behaviour of the prestressed steel plate girder. A plate girder prestressed eccentrically, will behave as a beam-column, which is subjected to axial compression and bending moment which will cause the beam to buckle out. The study of buckling of the prestressed steel plate girder is necessary for stability criteria. This paper deals with the stability of prestressed steel plate girder using concept of “Vlasov’s Circle of Stability” under eccentric prestressing force.

A partially characterized extract of Podophyllum hexandrum rhizomes was studied for its radioprotective potential in mice. A major portion of the podophyllotoxin was obtained from the extract by further fractionation. Acute toxicity and maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of a single intraperitoneal dose of the extract were studied in mice to evaluate the toxicity of the extract, if any. Radioprotective efficacy was determined in terms of survival against 10 Gy whole-body irradiation (WBI), protection against 1 Gy-induced chromosomal aberration (CA), and estimation of dose reduction factor (DRF) in irradiated and extract pretreated mice. The MTD was observed to be 60 mg/kg of body weight, whereas a dose of 90 mg/kg of body weight yielded 50% death in mice within 72 hours of intraperitoneal administration of the extract. A dose range of 15–20 mg/kg of body weight administered 2 hours before 10 Gy WBI of mice yielded 66% survival, while administration of 10–15 mg/kg of body weight of the extract 1 hour before WBI yielded more than 90% survival. A DRF of 1.625 was estimated for 10 and 15 mg/kg of body weight of the extract administered 1 hour before WBI. Further studies on modulation of 1 Gy-induced CA revealed significant radioprotective efficacy of the extract in mouse bone marrow cells. Partial removal of podophyllotoxin was useful in reducing toxicity of the extract without altering its radioprotective efficacy.

The plants, Trianthema decandra and Glinus oppositifolius are commonly used by tribal people in India for the treatment of liver diseases. Hepatoprotective activity of methanol extracts of Glinus oppositifolius and Trianthema decandra at the dose of 250 and 500 mg/kg body weight administered orally was evaluated against paracetamol induced liver damage in rats. Biochemical parameters such as serum glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase, serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase, serum alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin, total serum protein, lipid peroxide and glutathione content of the liver were estimated to determine liver function and metabolism. From the biochemical observations, it was concluded that methanol extracts of Glinus oppositifolius and Trianthema decandra significantly restored the altered biochemical parameters towards normal condition in paracetamol induced liver damage.

The plant Indigofera aspalathoides are used by a large number of tribes in India for the treatment of various hepatic disorder. The methanol extract of Indigofera aspalathoides (MEIA) was evaluated for its effect on carbontetrachloride $(CCl_{4})$ induced liver damage. Biochemical parameters such as serum glutamine oxaloacetate trasaminase (SGOT), serum glutamine pyruvate transaminase (SGPT), serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP), total serum protein (TP), thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBRS) and glutathione content of the liver were estimated to assess liver function and metabolism. Biochemical observations suggest that methanol extract of Indigofera aspalathoides (MEIA) significantly restored the liver function and metabolism towards normal condition in $CCl_{4}$-induced hepatic damage.

The plant Indigofera aspalathoides is used by a large number of tribes in India for the treatment of various hepatic disorders and abscesses. The methanol extract of Indigofera aspalathoides (MEIA) was evaluated for its protective effects on gastric mucosal lesion in Wister albino rats against indomethacin, histamine and ethanol induced gastric mucosal damage. The response to MEIA was assessed using the ulcer index, thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS), and glutahione level. MEIA pretreatment showed protection against chemical induced gastric mucosal damage, a significant reduction in the ulcer index and TBARS activity and increase glutathione level as compared with that of standard drugs.

In this technical note, we used a quadrupled hamstring graft and an endobutton continuous loop (CL; Smith & Nephew, Andover, MA, USA) as an implant for fixation of the graft on the femoral side and a bioscrew on the tibial side. The standard endobutton CL has a continuous loop for graft suspension and two high tensile sutures for shuttling through the tunnels. The unloading or entanglement of these sutures is a common complication during the passage of the endobutton through the tunnels. In this technical note, we described a simple method for unlooping the looped high tensile sutures of the endobutton CL on the femoral side, which helps to avoid the aforementioned complication.

Liquid fueled molten salt reactors (MSRs) have seen renewed interest because of their inherent safetyfeatures, higher thermal efficiency and potential for efficient thorium utilisation for power generation. Thorium fluoride is one of the salts used in liquid fueled MSRs employing TheU cycle. In the presentstudy, ThF4 was prepared by hydro-fluorination of ThO2 using anhydrous HF gas. Process parameters viz. bed depth, hydrofluorination time and hydrofluorination temperature, were optimized for the preparation of ThF4 in a static bed reactor setup. The products were characterized with X-Ray diffraction andexperimental conditions for complete conversion to ThF4 were established which also corroborated withthe yield values. Hydrofluorination of ThO2 at 450 C for half an hour at a bed depth of 6 mm gave thebest result, with a yield of about 99.36% ThF4. No unconverted oxide or any other impurity was observed. Rietveld refinement was performed on the XRD data of this ThF4, and Chi2 value of 3.54 indicated goodagreement between observed and calculated profiles.
Experimental Investigation on Flexural Response of Hybrid Steel Plate Girder
A. S. Kulkarni,L. M. Gupta 대한토목학회 2018 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.22 No.7
Flexural tests were conducted on five full scale I-shaped steel beams, three hybrid and two homogeneous, with two aims: 1)validate the inelastic flexural behavior of hybrid girder that is manufactured using lower grade steel 2) simplify finite element (FE)analysis procedure, for further parametric studies, by neglecting residual stresses when symmetrical welding sequence is adopted. Effect of material properties and member slenderness on flexural strength, ductility, and failure mode shapes is discussed. It is alsofound that failure mode shape and expansion of plastic field are mainly influenced by slenderness of member. Load-deflection andmoment rotation response in tests are closely matching with non-linear finite element study. Close match is also observed in failuremode shapes and plastic field expansion. Considerable reduction is observed in residual stresses in symmetrically welded sections ascompared to sections welded without proper sequence. This validates non-linear FE analysis procedure by neglecting residualstresses. Test results are compared with prediction equations for flexural strength, rotation capacity available in literature. Test resultsare also compared with provisions in EN 1993-1-1 and IS 800. Moment gradient (3-P) and uniform moment (4-P) loading have beenconsidered to ensure that results are equally applicable in both cases.
